(Price) JK PROPOSED STATEMENT AFTER EARTH ORBIT IS ACHIEVEI) (Approxirnately 11 Minutes AJter Launch)
The eyes of the world are on Apollo 11; the prayers of the
u'orId ini1l be with Astronauts Arrlstrong, Aldrin and Collins as they soar toward their rendezvous rvith the rnoon. The work o{ hundreds of thousands o{ rninds and hands w,ent
into this rnorningrs successful launch. The years of planning, the testing, the effort, all now ride with these three rnen. Within days, what rnan regarded for centuries as an i.rnpossible drearn is scheduled to Lreco:rre rea1i.ty.
For all those connected with the Apo11o program, this is clirnactic rnorrrent of pride, exciternent and anticipation.
a
For:
ordinary people everyrnhere, it is a rnornent of unparalleled adventure. Apo11o
represents an extraordinary feat of technology. tsut
beyond this, it is also an extraordi.nary testarnent to the will and
spirit of rnan, and to what those can achieve. To reach for the lTroon, and touch it -- to uralk on it -- in doing this, rnan transcends himself, and his wor1d. The truly great rnornents o{ his-
tory are those that are rrade great by the hurnan spirit, and that they in turn have a \vay of lifting the spirit and setting it arnong the stars.

.zThis voyage is such a rnolxent. At the tirne of Apol1o B, Archibald MacLeish \,&'rote that frorn the far perspectlve of its voyage around the rnoon it enabled us to see ourselves as rrriders on the Earth together"'r
In these next few days, we on Earth rvill share in one of the crowning experiences of our tirne, and all ti"rne, as riders to the Moon together. If one sirnple phrase could recapture the feelings of us here on Earth to the rnen o{ Apo11.o 11, so far and yet so near, it
would be: "V/e're with you. "
I would add: Good voyage, God speed, good landing, and safe return.
