Think Local!

NAME OF BUSINESS: Greeley Signs & Graphics LLC Year established : My father (Jim Greeley) started the business in 1973 and then I took it over in August of 2014. Tell us a little about your business: What do you do? We manufacturer all kinds of signs. Lighted and unlighted signs and awnings for home or business. We have just recently started selling retractable awnings that can be installed on your home or business front. Other services we offer are lettering for your vehicle or business vehicle. Vehicle wraps we offer are also a great way to get your name The folks at Greeley Signs & Graphics are always “Th inking Local” out there. We also specialize in sandblasted signs that give you a more rustic look and work great for farm signs. CNC routing is also something we do that allows us to make a sign of any shape or size. Along with signage we also can make trophies and plaques right in house so they can be made to the customer’s exact requirements for their special occasion. Our laser engraver will do very precise engravings in many materials. Selfinking stamps are made right in house and can be made while you wait. One thing we have recently added to items we can offer is custom screen printing and embroidery. We can screen print t shirts and other items and embroider your logo on a hat or apparel. How many “neighbors” do you employ? We currently employ 7 - full time and 2-part time neighbors. Recognizing you can do business anywhere…why are you here? This is where I was born and raised. Three generations of Greeley’s have owned and operated this company now with my daughter working in the company. So, we have quite a family history to be proud of and many traditions to carry on. We are so blessed to be part of a smaller community where neighbors know each other. What’s the one thing you wish everyone knew about your business? We put our customers first and pride ourselves on quality craftsmanship. Our design service is second to none and with our sister business, Threads, we can help you complete your branding from the signs to logo wear. What makes your business unique? Everything we make is one of a kind. And, we’re not happy until you are! If you have an idea for a gift that requires a good eye for design, there’s a really good chance that we can make your dream become a reality. Other than providing jobs and paying taxes what are some other ways you give back to the community? We donate signs when we can and donate to a wide variety of sponsorships. We also enjoy working with the Veterans. Parting thoughts….please share anything else you’d like our readers to know: We are a family business and have been ever since 1973, when James Greeley started the business. We are now on our 3rd generation. If you haven’t been in our new location, please stop in. We think you’ll be pleasantly surprised at all we have to offer. OBITUARIES

August 18, 2017 Joan Kathryn (Andresen) Ott died on August 18, 2017 after a long, creative and adventurous life. She was born November 27, 1931 – the eldest child of Hans and Genoveva Andresen in Chicago Illinois. She, her parents and brothers lived on the southside and later moved to the Marengo area. Her dad was a machinist and shop owner and her mother a piano teacher. The family owned a 38 foot schooner, The Nor’Wester, used for many trips exploring the Great Lakes. As a young woman, Joan traveled to Europe and at one point went on an individual bike excursion that started in Heidelberg, Germany and ended in Naples, Italy. She attended and graduated high school from Luther Institute in Chicago and later her college education was in Dekalb from Northern Illinois University (at that time Northern Illinois State Teacher’s College)

and became a social studies teacher. She married her husband, Karl Willi Ott on April 7, 1957. The two then began their journey of homes, including residences in Marengo and Coral Illinois, Blue River Wisconsin and Goliad Texas (in several spots until they found the perfect one). Each of their properties became homes as they renovated and restored – adding their personal touches along the way. Their properties also included work with rental homes and even a general store, The Sand Prairie Pantry just outside of Blue River, Wisconsin. Joan never claimed a complete favorite location, but Blue River was rarely far from her thoughts. Joan was preceded in death by her parents, her husband - Karl, two brothers who died in infancy and a younger brother – Hans (Judith) Andresen of Richland Center WI, and her eldest daughter – Chris Ott of Muscoda, WI. She is survived by her brother - Robert (Elaine) Andresen of Chicago, IL, two daughters – Marlene (Russ) Tilsner of Waukesha, WI and Karlene (Neil) Broesch of Hartford, WI, son-in-law John Rigby of Baraboo, WI, four nephews, four grandchildren, and three greatgrandchildren. Per Joan’s wishes, she was cremated and there will be no formal funeral ceremony. Her ashes will be spread at Mountain Greenery in Blue River at a later date.

MARY ELAINE “SIS” SHARP

August 22, 2017 Mary Elaine “Sis” Sharp passed away August 22, 2017 at Pine Valley Community with family members by her side. She was born March 30, 1927 to Louis “Duke” and Madeline (Adams) Duhr, one of nine children. Mary loved to travel, whether short trips or long. She took a bus trip to Washington, DC for the bicentennial celebration as a chaperone with the Richland High School Color Guard. She also did two 3,000 mile driving loop trips. One out West through the Black Hills onto Yellowstone, then up through Montana and North Dakota. A few years later a trip east took her into Kentucky, down to the Great Smoky Mountains and a stop in Nashville while going through Tennessee. A highlight of that trip was getting on stage at the Reiman Theater, home of the original Grand Old Opry, where she had her picture taken with guitar in hand. She also

took her only plane flights on a trip to Florida. Her travels generated many stories that she loved to share. Another pleasure was seeing different plays put on by local theater groups. One of her greatest joys was attending various school activities with her youngest granddaughter, Stacy. A call about something going in the next day or two brought the response “I’ll call and cancel lunch” and she was ready to go. She loved visiting with her children and grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; infant son, Jimmy; four brothers, Keith, Hale, Bill and Kenneth Duhr; sister, Florence Berberich; sister-in-law, Lois Duhr; and brother-in-laws, Lyle Chadwick, Bill Holtz and Carl Berberich. She is survived by her children, Nancy (Tom) Phelan, Tom Sharp, David (Donna) Sharp, Diane (Doug) Whiteaker, Dennis Sharp and Patricia Smith; eleven grandchildren; many great- and great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Helen Chadwick and June Holtz; one brother, Gerald Duhr; and many other relatives and friends. The family thanks the staff at Pine Valley Community and Drs. Richardson and Martine for the care they provided our mother in the last months of her life. Memorial services will be held on Thursday, August 31, 2017 at 11:00 AM at the Pratt Memorial Chapel, with burial to follow in the Dayton Corners Cemetery. A visitation will be held on Thursday,

Ava is the current “Office Cat” at the OMHS Shelter where her tasks as receptionist and keeping tabs on what goes on with the cats and kittens in the cage free environment keeps her busy. She is a mature cat, ready to retire to a loving home where she can be helpful with bookkeeping and office chores that she chooses… such as crumpling up papers, moving pens and pencils, and maybe hiding reading glasses. Ava is very friendly and loves to play which is why she is retiring as “Office Cat.” She intends that play will take the place of her responsibilities in the “Office.” Please interview Ava at the Shelter. Adoption Shelter, 391 Clarson Street: hours are Wednesday, 4:30 to 6 p.m. and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 12 noon. Stop in at our cage-free environment.
