International Fairs and Expositions Contest Results Announced Las Vegas - The Grant County, WI Fair received an Award of Excellence in the Hall of Honor Communications contest at the127th annual International Association of Fairs and Expositions (IAFE) convention. “The IAFE Hall of Honor Communications contest provides fairs with a unique collaboration experience, allowing Amy Olson them to critique promotional materials in an effort to continue strengthening marketing campaigns at fairs internationally.” Lori Hart. Director of Education and Member Services said. The awards were presented during the final general session on November 29, 2017. The Hall of Honor Communications contest received 771 entries. showcasing a vast array of promotional tactics used at fairs across the world. Communication awards are sponsored by K&K Insurance, headquartered in Indiana. The 20 categories within the communication awards are divided into five divisions by fair attendance. After submission. entries are judged based upon predetermined criteria set forth by IAFE committees. Judges include industry professionals both within and outside of, the IAFE membership. Amy Olson says... The IAFE Convention is an annual event. It’s a chance to network with other fairs internationally. Exchange ideas, discuss what is working for their fairs and what hasn’t worked. There are workshops to attend that relate to the fair, marketing, and managing your facility. It also gives me a chance to showcase our fair and the opportunity to highlight Grant County as a whole. When I was asked to be a presenter people were so intrigued about our family night — bed racing, pig mud wrestling, human foosball. It was nice to see that what we do is very comparable to what fairs do internationally but on a smaller scale. And it was also nice to have people so interested in the some of the other things that we do for entertainment. As part of the convention you can submit your marketing for the fair. I submitted my items to the IAFE and was selected the end of October. The marketing of our fair starts with a theme that I come up with. Then I meet with Abbey Roesch from Grantland Graphics to do the designing of the ads. It’s really her expertise that helps make the theme come to life. From there I use the design to create posters, brochures, coasters, yard signs, newspaper articles and everywhere in between. I was selected in two categories for awards this year. · Marketing - Promotional Display or Piece (Coasters) · Marketing - Newspaper Ad Black and White It was very exciting to receive this award and I am beyond grateful for the support I receive from the community. The fair is a tradition in Grant County and I am happy to be a part of it.

National Handwashing Awareness Week! Conveniently placed in the calendar, National Handwashing Awareness Week reminds us that the risk of infection is ever-present, especially around the holidays. Let’s first take a little review of the Principles of Hand Hygiene that are endorsed by the AMA and the AAFP: ❚ Wash your hands when they are dirty and before eating; ❚ Do not cough into your hands; ❚ Do not sneeze into your hands; ❚ Above all, do not put your hands into your eyes, ears, and mouth. What actually happens to the surrounding environment when you cough or sneeze into the open air or your hands? According to Inside Science, a news site supported by the American institute of Physics, an average cough forces about 3,000 droplets out of the body at around 50 miles per hour. Similarly, but on a much grander scale, is the human sneeze. Traveling at an astounding 200 miles per hour, around 40,000 droplets can be released into the air with just ONE sneeze. For both coughs and sneezes alike, these particles range in size. Many of the particles are dense enough that they eventually float to the floor or surrounding surfaces. However, some of the particles are so light that they can linger in the air and can be dispersed

through movements such as making a hospital bed or opening a door. So what are we to do with thousands of possibly infectious droplets in our wake?
