They need to fast-forward to the conclusions and declarations made later by our Lord through Paul. Look for yourself and see what the “therefore” and “wherefore” and “but now” declarations say Romans chapter 3 is full of them. Read how that Jesus Christ has made complete satisfaction to God in our behalf through His death, burial and resurrection. (He paid it all). Name: Matthew Hill Defining the Role Matthew researches and interprets statistics for each UW-Platteville basketball game. This gives him the ability to talk about the players performance and predict what teams may do in certain game situations. Since he was unable to attend many of the Spring sports events, he obtained statistics from coaches and put together stories based on those findings. In High School, Matthew was the stat taker, where in college, he used statistics taken by others to expand to other jobNow,opportunities.Let’sChat with Matt! Education Path I graduated Iowa-Grant High School with the class of 2018. Nicolet Area Technical College/Southwest Tech Graduate 2020. I graduated from Nicolet Area Technical College in a partnership program with Southwest Tech. I received a 2-year University Transfer Associate of Arts Degree. Additionally, I graduated from UW-Platteville in the Spring of 2022 with an individually contracted major in Sports Management, Communications, and Marketing. This fall, I will start a M.S. in Sports Administration from UW-Platteville. statistics?YF: I first became involved in statistics when many of my friends participated in sports. I became interested in following sports and realized how well sports can be understood through statistics. aboutYF:Matt:statistics? What I find most interesting about statistics is how they have evolved since I began following them in the sports world. It is no longer just about batting average, free-throw percentage, or other simple indications of personal performance. Statistics have evolved to include a much more holistic approach in every application. Now, in sports, teams can evaluate a player’s likelihood to catch a ball based on statistical algorithms related to their route or which player might be best to draft based on the mental traits they possess that teams may prefer. The expansion of different areas that statistics has grown to cover is the most interesting part of it. YF: How did your experience in high school influence your career path? Matt: My high school experience influenced my career path by providing wonderful memories and experiences for me to take part in. I also built some great relationships with my high school classmates. Those memories, experiences, and relationships helped me develop the different interests related to my career path and enabled me to pursue my long-term goals. Without the support from those people who I crossed paths with in high school, I would not be where I am today. YF: What would your dream job be after completion of your master’s degree? Matt: My dream job would be to either work for a sports organization or an Intercollegiate Athletics program. Upon completing my degree, I will be seeking a job closely related to sports communications. YF: What piece of advice would you offer to students who may be interested in the same field?Matt: I would say that there are so many different paths to take in this career field that it would be important to pursue a similar degree program with an open mind and connect with as many people as possible. Get to know those who work in the field because you never know where those connections will lead. 5:30 p.m. advance/$15 at the door Agrace.org/ Band Shekinah King and the Alpha Romeos Big CatEddie adno=270985

(608) 348-9581,1620 Means Dr., Platteville Adventures of Oz I’m sure all you parents and kids are excited to get back to school. I’m excited because I get to bark at all the kids as the walk by. I just love watching them from my window seat! They have these funny things hanging on their backs. I’m guessing that is where they keep all their treats! I sure wish I could have my own backpack of treats. My brother Micky doesn’t like when I announce to the house that more small humans are walking by - he just likes to be lazy and rest at the window seat. Sometimes the little humans even speed by really fast on a thing with 2 wheels. I think my humans said it is a bike. Boy, would I love to go chase those bikes! I’m sure tiny humans have pets at home, and they are really going to miss them while they are away at school. Us dogs and cats can do pretty well on our own, but it is nice to have access to a potty break, fresh water, and even toys to keep us entertained while our humans are away. Oh boy - here comes another bike to bark at - gotta go!

Name: Holly Johns Job Title: Early Childhood Teacher School District: Cuba City School District YF: How long have you been with the Cuba City School District? Holly: The 2022-2023 school year will be my tenth year teaching in the Cuba City Schools. YF: What is one challenge children face when starting 4k/ Kindergarten?Holly:Starting school is a big change for many children; whether they have been attending a daycare center or have been in a home environment. The thing that seems to be the most challenging for students is getting used to the transitions; moving as a large group of students around the building, to recess, lunch, bathrooms, etc. This takes time and practice for students to be able to make these transitions smoothly. YF: What is a challenge parents face when sending their kids to school?Holly: One thing that can be challenging for parents is figuring out how students will get to and from school when work schedules conflict with the school day. Thankfully we have bussing which can transport students to and from daycare centers or other locations. YF: What advice can you offer parents for a successful transition from daycare to school? Holly: The Cuba City Schools offer a “Meet the Teacher” night before the first day of school. Attending this event will help prepare students for the first day, by allowing them to get comfortable with the environment and meet the teacher. YF: What was your favorite subject growing up? Holly: My favorite subject was math. YF: What are you looking forward to for the 2022-2023 school year? Holly: I’m looking forward to supporting the students that have been in my Early Childhood program as they transition into 4K and 5K classrooms.

A Q&A with area teachers

Name: Baird Miller Job Title: 8th Grade, Special Education Teacher School District: Platteville School District

YF: How long have you been with the Platteville School District? Baird: I graduated last December and taught as a long-term sub at PMS in the spring of last school year. This will be my first full school year. YF: What is one challenge middle school children face when starting a new year at school? Baird: I think building rapport with their peers can be the most difficult part, especially for new students of transfers. For all the returning kiddos, the biggest fish to fry is adapting back into the routine of school. Lets be honest, who really likes getting up early??? YF: What is a challenge parents face when sending their kids to school?Baird: Parents are eternally challenged by their children in every facet of their lives (that’s why I don’t have kids :). I bet the biggest challenge will be finding school supplies in stock with all the shortages. YF: What advice or words of wisdom can you offer parents to assist them in helping their child have a successful middle school experience?Baird:Help your child grow by teaching them to communicate their emotions and feelings. And encourage them to step out of their comfort zone and try new things! (Fact-Sushi won’t kill you & it’s delicious) YF: What was your favorite subject growing up? Baird: I really didn’t like school at all growing up. Lunch detention was the only class I really excelled at. My favorite classes where always the ones with teachers who could connect with me. It wasn’t the subject but more the relationship. YF: What is your favorite aspect about teaching this age group? Baird: Everyday is honestly an adventure. Middle schoolers never cease to amaze me. One minute we will be talking about empathy and then 30sec later, a student could be doing the Worm across the classroom floor. The kids are all so quirky and sweet it’s really the best job in the world. YF: What are you looking forward to for the 2022-2023 school year? Baird: Everything! YF: What is the most important thing you have learned from your students throughout your teaching career?Baird: Keeping it real. standardized achievement tests than students with lower arts involvement. Furthermore, data from 2015 from The College Board, which produces the SAT, found students who took four years of arts and music classes while in high school scored an average of 92 points higher on their SATs than students who only took one-half year or less.

Art program cutbacks are rarely met with open arms, and that resistance has a lot to do with the positive effects such offerings have on students’ academic performance.

BETTER TEST PERFORMANCE

COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT Participation and even appreciation of the arts can have an impact as well. Researchers from the Department of Public Administration at the University of Illinois Chicago found that being an art curator or audience member leads to high levels of civic engagement and social tolerance.

Numerous studies have found a correlation between early introduction to music education and a number of benefits for children. Music education can help develop communication skills, brain plasticity, language, and motor skills. A study conducted by the University of California, Los Angeles used a database of more than 25,000 middle and high school students. The researchers found that students involved in arts performed better on

Keeping these programs alive in schools can benefit students in many ways. class? Did you return that authorization form to allow your child to play sports? There’s a lot to remember to help your kids have a happy and healthy school year. One item you may have left off your list? Make sure you’re kids are up-to-date on their vaccinations and immunizations. According to the Wisconsin Student Immunization Law, Wisconsin children must have polio, hepatitis, MMR, and Varicella vaccines. The disruption that COVID-19 has caused in the world and healthcare means many people haven’t seen their primary care provider in years. Getting back to your primary care provider and setting up that first appointment is a priority. A vaccine dose may have been skipped if you or your child missed an important health milestone or did not see your provider. It doesn’t matter what has stopped you from adhering to the proper immunization timeline, maybe you haven’t wanted to come into the hospital during the pandemic, or you simply haven’t realized how much time has passed! While it is encouraged for everyone who can get the COVID-19 vaccine, don’t forget to stay up-to-date on your other necessary vaccines for yourself and your school-aged children. If you don’t know what your child is missing, give their provider a call and ask! They will be happy to walk you through what’s missing from immunization records or what needs to be updated before school starts. If you need to get your child up-to-date on vaccinations, please call either the Cuba City Clinic at (608) 744-2767 or the Platteville Clinic at (608) 348 – 4330, and one of the primary care providers can assist you in getting your child back on track.

The cost of products and services continues to rise and organizations everywhere have increasingly been feeling the pressure to reevaluate budgets. It’s no different in school districts nationwide, with school boards making difficult decisions about which programs to keep and which will have to go in order to save money Music and arts programs often are the first to be cut when school budgets are tightened. The organization Save the Music says that, during the Great Recession in 2008 and 2009, per-pupil spending in public schools decreased by approximately 7 percent across the country. This led to a trickle-down effect that resulted in the cancellation of art and music programs. Since then, many districts have continued to cut arts programs due to budget limitations. COVID-19 also did little to help the situation.

If your child is constantly seeing different providers, they may not have fostered the same type of trusting relationship if they were to see the same person for years. Your primary provider can have a deeper understanding of both your child’s and total family’s medical history Choosing a primary care provider is not a decision that should be made lightly. You are trusting this person with your medical history and the future of your child’s care. That’s why Southwest Health continues to expand its clinics and include more primary care providers.
