Its clear throughout Grant County why Wisconsin is called Americas Dairyland. From state-of-the-art facilities to rustic countryside views, agriculture remains a staple in our past, present and future. But this corner of the Driftless Region is more than just cows and crops. Our rolling hills, blufftops and waterways have shaped the culture of Grant County for centuries. Featuring nearly 100 miles of shore along the Wisconsin and Mississippi Rivers, adventure awaits you with fishing, boating, camping and more. Step back in time with our variety of museums, step out to nature along our many trails, or step into our neighborhood shops to discover the treasures that are unique to Grant County.

Southwest Wisconsin Wine Trail
is a consortium of Wisconsin wineries that are located within the Upper Mississippi River Valley AVA (American Viticultural Area). These wineries share a passion for their craft – creating wine. They each have a story to tell. As you visit these wineries you will find that there is a common thread to each story. That thread is the challenge of making great wine from new and emerging grape varieties that are cold hardy enough to withstand the weather of the Upper Midwest. Some of these wineries make their wine using only their own grapes and others wineries don’t grow any grapes but do source from local growers. Some of them also make wines from fruit, such as cranberries, apples, cherries and currants. You can even find Mead, a wine made from honey. So take the trail that winds through the beautiful hills and valleys of Southwest Wisconsin and taste the passion and the variety for yourself. For details, search Southwest Wisconsin Wine Trail on Facebook.
History & Museums
Grant County has a deep history - literally! We’re home to the Mining and Rollo Jamison Museums in Platteville. This is your chance to go underground and tour an actual lead mine used in the 1800s. You might also notice Platteville’s giant M just to the east of town - which stands for Mining! On the surface, the railroad played a major part in developing communities around Grant County. Its history is told through the Boscobel Depot Museum and Fennimore Railway Museum. Interested in seeing how far the Ag industry has advanced? Then plan a trip Stonefield Historic Site in Cassville and visit the Wisconsin State Agricultural Museum. Or, go even further back in history, and check out the mounds built by indigenous peoples that are located along the Lower Wisconsin Riverway.

For that rainy day...
Don’t let a rainy day ruin your whole trip. We can keep your family entertained even if the weather outside has delayed some of your regularly scheduled fun. You can use this time to check out the unique specialty stores in and around the area. Or, create a learning opportunity by visiting one of Grant County’s museums. Maybe grab a bite to eat at a local tavern with your friends? Other fun activities you might consider as a family - go bowling, catch a movie or explore our community libraries. How about swinging into a coffee shop? Many offer an assortment of board games, along with aromatic blends and specialty sandwiches in a family-friendly setting. And, if its not the rain but the heat that has you looking to change your plans, we have community pools and family aquatic centers that are open to everyone!
