OBITUARIES Kenneth E. Bailey
Francis J. “Hank” Dedrick
Kenneth E. Bailey, 71, of Muscoda died Monday, May 16, 2022, at his home. He was born on January 9, 1951, in Sparta the son of Edwin and Elaine (Dinger) Bailey. Kenny was active in the Boy Scouts and was one step from Eagle Scout when he was shot in the foot at the Flaming Arrow Ceremony. Kenny married Joyce Byers on August 20, 1994, in Muscoda. He worked at Schmitt Woodland Hills for many years. Kenny enjoyed hunting, fishing, mushrooming, bird watching, spelunking, and camping. He also enjoyed cooking and won the Chili Cook Off at the Muscoda Mushroom Festival. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. The Pratt Funeral and Cremation Service is assisting the family with their arrangements.
The World’s Greatest Living Band Director Francis J. “Hank” Dedrick passed away on May 18, 2022 at Sauk Prairie Hospital with his family by his side, after a brief fight with lung cancer. He was born in Yuba, WI on April 20th, 1934, the son of Frank W. “Hank” and Adeline (Rott) Dedrick. He graduated from Richland Center High School in 1952. His love for music started very young as he played in many different dance bands from the age of 16 on. He played piano, trumpet, tuba, bass guitar, and accordion in bands such as Yuba Bohemian Band, Hal White Polkateers, Uncle Julius & His Boys, Armand Husaboe & Bernie Henderson Orchestra, Bobby Lori Band, Plain Hot Shots and finally starting his own band, The Country Spirits along with Dick Strait and his sons Mike and Matt. He played piano and trumpet in church, accordion in local nursing homes, Yuba Two Day Dance and started local nights at The Shed. He also was an accompanist for many students for solo and ensemble. He played taps for many military funerals. He graduated from UW Madison in 1956 with a degree in Instrumental Music Education. He was fortunate enough to march in the UW’s first Rose Bowl in 1953. He then enlisted in the Marine Corps and was assigned to the 5th Marine Regiment Drum and Bugle Corps where he was head bugler and music arranger. After his discharge from the Marines, he worked at the Congress Bar in Madison where he met his wife to be Janet Morgan. They married in 1960 and were married for 56 years until her death on Nov 3rd, 2016. They raised their 4 children in Spring Green. He was hired by the River Valley School District in 1960, starting at the Lone Rock High School teaching band, choir and general music and then Director of Bands at the River Valley Junior High teaching for 33 years in total. Following the close of his position, he started a new career as greenskeeper for the Spring Green Municipal Golf Club for the next 30 years. He served as Superintendent and President for many years. He loved to play golf and was a longtime member of the Spring Green Men’s League. He was a 50 + year member of the Lions Club of Spring Green, the Christ Lutheran Church and the American Legion 253. He was active in professional organizations including the River Education, NEA, WEAC, WI School Music Association, Phi Mu Alpha Music Fraternity and emeritus member of the Wisconsin Bandmasters Association. He was an avid Packer and Badger fan and enjoyed playing euchre and cribbage with family and friends. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was preceded in death by his wife, Janet; parents, sister, Bernice Hynek; in-laws, Richard Hynek, Chuck and Shirley Morgan, Vern Morgan, Gerry and Molly Gest and favorite Uncle Frank Rott. He is survived by his children, Mike (Lori), Mark (Wynn), Matt (friend Eloise), Michelle (David) Mack; grandchildren, Mick, Jack, Dan, Andrea, Kate (Ryne), Macy (Dan), Tyler (Kaylea), Luke, Matia, Morgan, Casey, Spencer; 2 greatgrandchildren, Chloe and Clove; sister-in-law, June Morgan; daughter-in-law, Monica Meister Dedrick; special friend Rita Brey, his cat Arrow, many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 27, 2022 at the Christ Lutheran Church in Spring Green at 11:00 A.M. Pastor John Swanson will officiate with burial in the Big Hollow Lutheran Cemetery where military graveside rites will be conducted by the Spring Green American Legion Post #253. Visitation will be held Thursday, May 26, 2022 at the Christ Lutheran Church from 4:00 P.M.-8:00 P.M. and again on Friday from 10:00 A.M. until the time of service. We will also be honoring Hank at The Shed during local night on Thursday, June 2, 2022 from 5:30 P.M.- 7:30 P.M. Online condolences available at www.staffordfuneralhomes.com. Hazel V. Beighley Hazel V. Beighley, 82, of Janesville and formerly of rural Richland Center passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 18, 2022, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Madison, WI. She was born on November 3, 1939, to Vivian and Lola (JohnsonKeck) Anderson in Richland County. Hazel graduated from Richland Center High School in 1957. She married Elden Beighley in September of 1958. They moved to Janesville, WI in the 1960’s. Where they raised their three children and later moved back to rural Richland Center on their farm in Buena Vista Township. Hazel was an avid learner and took college classes into her 60’s. She enjoyed many years on the farm, gardening, and planting flowers. Hazel loved card club, spoiling her many grandchildren, traveling around the U.S. with her friends and family, spending winters in Arizona. She is survived by her 3 loving children, Greg (Robin) Beighley of Janesville, WI, Jeff Beighley (Kelly Esser) of Mellen, WI, Kim Snider of Mosinee, WI; 7 grandchildren, Genevieve Snider, Ryan Snider, Jeffrey (Anna Yarish) Beighley, Jessica (Patrick) Grover, Jared Beighley, Tony Beighley, Ani Beighley; a brother, Sam Anderson; 3 sisters-in-law, Gena Beighley, Laurie King, Bonnie Anderson; 2 brothers-in-law, Clyde and Reginald Beighley; other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Vivian & Lola Anderson; husband, Elden Beighley; brother, Fred Anderson and sonin-law, Dan Snider. A funeral service was held on Monday, May 23, 2022, at 11:00 AM with visitation from 10:00 AM until the time of service at the Clary Memorial Funeral Home in Richland Center, WI.
