Liturgical Dance

Beginning Jazz

This class is designed for students who have had at least 4 years of ballet (This does not include pre-ballet classes.) and have a good foundation of the basics of ballet. This class will increase the student’s vocabulary of steps and general technique. (Advanced students are welcome to take this class in pointe shoes.) Description: The Primary/Ballet I class will introduce the young dancer to correct posture and technique, proper ballet vocabulary, short combinations, and beginning character dance. BALLET IV & V
This class will advance the student to more difficult barre and centre exercises that stress the importance of technique, increase the vocabulary of steps, and introduce beats. Goals are to give the dancer challenging enchainements and to build strength and stamina while becoming confident and expressive in the discipline of ballet. Students will receive foot strengthening exercises for pointe during each class. Prerequisite: (Teacher’s permission) Three or more years of ballet training not including PreBallet or Creative Movement classes. Ages: 8 to 12 yrs. CREATIVE MOVEMENT
This class will introduce your child to basic motor skills. The student will learn fun and creative movement. The class uses props and toys to explore dance. This is a delightful thirty-minute class filled with activities and dance games that your child is sure to enjoy. Ballet shoes are required. Ages: 2 to 3 yrs. This is a great introductory class to allow your child to discover what he/ she is interested in. Students will learn basic skills in ballet, tap, and tumbling. Ballet teaches posture, grace, and coordination. Tap will teach the students rhythms with their feet and dancing to the beat. Students will gain strength and flexibility while learning basic tumbling skills. We use props and toys to learn how to dance and have fun. Ballet and tap shoes are required. Ages: 3 to 6 yrs. This class is geared toward the beginner with some dance experience. The students will further their vocabulary in ballet and tap. The steps will become more difficult and we will be connecting the intricate steps together with emphasis on technique. The students will continue their knowledge and love for dance in this class! This is a high energy dance class. This class is for the first-time dancer or one who has had several years of dancing. This class will continue their knowledge of difficult dance moves while learning new moves as well. The choreography will be more intricate and challenging. Hip-Hop is one of the most popular dances, is a stress reliever, and is a ton of fun. Black jazz shoes, black hip-hop shoes, or black sneakers are required. ADULT BALLET
This class is designed for the adult with prior ballet experience who would like to refresh their ballet skills. Class will consist of barre exercises, stretching exercises, enchainements, and combinations across the floor. Ages: 12 to Adult Class Time: 6:30 PM - 7:30 PM Teacher: Melissa Girardi
Class begins with a warm up, followed by barre exercises. Students will work on an intermediate vocabulary of steps including some enchainements. This class is a great introduction to Hip-Hop for young students. This class breaks down the basics of Hip-Hop for dancers to understand and enjoy! If your child is a free spirit, this class will help him/her to develop his/her own individuality. This class is a great way to further students’ Hip-Hop knowledge. This is a high energy class to get your child movin’ and groovin’ in no time! BEGINNING TAP & JAZZ
This basic class for beginners will introduce various basic tap skills and jazz exercises. We will work on simple combinations in the centre and across the floor. Tap will teach the students rhythms with their feet and jazz will get them dancing to the beat. Tap shoes are required for tap. Ballet shoes or black jazz shoes are required for jazz. Students will be challenged to learn advanced barre and center exercises to increase their endurance, ability, and technique. Students will learn more advanced beats as well as how to connect steps with fluidity while learning classical and character types of variations. JUNIOR/SENIOR DANCE COMPANY
Students interested in performing join the Richland Dance Company. Students pursue a pre-professional level of performance by developing a sense of showmanship, expression, and energy. We strive to perfect our technique, increase our knowledge of steps and learn advanced terminology. We perform in the community upon request. The dance company performs additional numbers in the dance concert. Prerequisite: (Teacher’s permission) Note: If there are enough students, we will form a junior Company that will meet 4:00 to 5:00 PM Ages: 10 to Adult Class Time: 5:00 PM - 6:00 PM Teacher: Nancy McReynolds
