Collection

Platinum’s Storybook Collection is a spirited celebration of time-honored textile patterns and techniques. Inspired by the narrative charm in historic Indian and Asian art, the fabrics draw on a vocabulary of historic styles interpreted for today’s living spaces. Statement painterly scenics and textural stripes layer with woodblock minis, distressed tree of life prints, elegant botanicals and refined embroideries in this homage to our favorite textile traditions.

Color Story:

Folklore

Red and ochre. What makes this combination so timeless? One explanation: These pigments were among the first used by the very earliest artists and makers. In fact, Red is one of the earliest pigments to be found in art, dating back to cave paintings. This was a practical matter. Red pigment was readily made from an abundance of natural resources like dirt, metal, and plants. Other colors like blue and purple were much scarcer. From cave paintings to Little Red Riding Hood to Renaissance painting, Red is the color of stories.

Island House

Throughout history, painters and artisans have turned to blue pigments to signify extraordinary value. From Egyptian jewelry to Chinese porcelain, blue makes an appearance in the most esteemed decorative objects in history.

In the realm of interiors, classic blue and white sets the mood for tranquility and harmony. In the Island House color story, shots of pure cobalt and yellow mix up the classic rules while harkening back to the glamour of ancient treasure.

Green is widely regarded as the way to bring the outdoors in by interior designers. Here, greens range from cool cucumber to sharp pear, in a soft and natural spectrum designed to layer. Rosy pinks and subdued aquatic accents lend a soft modernity and a vintage vibe to botanical prints and classic stripes.

Warm neutrals and a sunbleached palette lend the Memoir Color Story the air of a well-aged collection of beloved classics. Watery grays and rust with silver and linen keep the eye restfully engaged. Faded moss and squash accents keep things fresh.

Adelia

Jacobeans have always been a décor staple. Originating in the 17th Century and mainly an invention of Indian artists adapting styles to suit export markets, its variations are limitless. Adelia is adapted from a vintage 19th Century cotton chintz fragment and

Olivier

An invented composition of finely drawn orchids and morning glories lends a romantic refinement to the collection.

Freya

The whimsy of this scenic landscape is a mash-up of 19th Century Japanese landscape painting and 20th Century Scandinavian folk art. The result is a wholly unique conversational feature fabric which captures the modern folklore aesthetic.

This expressive field of wildflowers is an updated alternative to more traditional florals. With names like Bachelor’s Button, Foxglove and Forget Me Not, small flowers have a dreamy quality that give Lucienne a lot of storied charm.

Priyanka

Our scalloped woodblock-style print meets at the crossroads of paisley and floral. Evocative of niche carvings found in Jaipur palaces, as well as details from 18th Century Indian bed hangings, Priyanka is pretty yet architectural. Printed on a linen blend and colored in our favorite stories for the season.

The Suzani textile tradition originated in Central Asia and is one of the most beloved embroidery styles for collectors. Maxine is inspired by silk textiles in the suzani family known as Kaitag embroideries. Here, a painterly interpretation in striking colors breathes new life into the history of this decorative style.
