HR Reimagined: Tamara Morrison’s Path to Success

Tamara Morrison's journey into HR wasn't conventional. Her career began with a serendipitous entry into the field, spurred by a referral that led her into the heart of financial services. Early challenges, including managing a nationwide class action lawsuit, exposed her to the intricacies and complexities beyond traditional roles in human resources. "I stayed and pivoted into different generalist and specialist roles," Tamara recalls, highlighting her 20 year journey of “creating value” for Fortune 500 companies, non-profits, and major growth brands through various disciplines that shaped her holistic approach to consultancy.

"I think a lot of my colleagues operate very transactionally," she muses, reflecting on her early career choices. "But HR is about the big picture—why are we doing this? Where are we looking to go? I differentiate myself as a business strategist first," Tamara explains.

With Premier HR Consulting, LLC, now seven years strong, her agency mirrors her vision of proactive, client-centric HR solutions while setting her clients up on a path focused not just on policies and transactions but on transformative growth and organizational vision.

Based in Melville, with a team spanning the country from Detroit to Los Angeles, Tamara embraces a hybrid work model, navigating its nuances firsthand. "When companies ask about remote work solutions, I've done it myself," she asserts, drawing from her team's experiences. Tamara and her team also lead conversations about AI's impact. "AI isn't just taking jobs; it's creating new ones," she notes, positioning herself and her clients to embrace technological advancements proactively. Amid

shifts in organizational equity discussions, such as SHRM's decision to remove "equity" from their initiatives, the team continues to advocate for inclusive workplace practices. "Equity stands on its own outside diversity and inclusion,” and these forward-thinking insights ensure her clients remain ahead of industry shifts and regulatory landscapes.

Beyond boardrooms and client meetings, Tamara's roots anchor her commitment to community impact.

Inspired by her grandmother's entrepreneurial spirit, her journey from Massachusetts to New York highlights her dedication to building successful businesses and strong communities. "Long Island is now my home base," she emphasizes, actively supporting local nonprofits like Girls Inc. and Habitat for Humanity. Her involvement embodies her belief in giving back and fostering meaningful change complementing her business acumen and reflecting a balanced commitment to professional excellence and community stewardship.

The modern era's lifestyle involves living longer and working longer. This generation faces various challenges while juggling caregiver responsibilities. Marrying later, having children later in life and who live at home longer, all while working longer with parents who live longer but may need assistance creates a “triple-decker sandwich”. Women continue to be the primary caregivers in the home and across generations. Factor in the “sandwich sides” of divorce, death, illness, and or children with special needs, it’s a smorgasbord of responsibilities. It’s likely most of us will either be a caregiver or will need a caregiver or both. Therefore, it is essential to marry your estate planning and financial planning to prepare for the realities and privileges of a longer life. At this year’s WE Summit: we will address issues such as caregiving, planning for the protection of children, oneself, and aging loved ones at every stage of life, including those with second marriages and adopted family members. Topics addressed will be:

• Long Term Care financing options • Retirement Planning: It's important to create a plan that allows you to enjoy retirement to the fullest. • Financing & Housing Options • Raising financially responsible children.

Marianna Mooney: Leading the Way in Accounting on Long Island

Marianna Mooney’s accounting career has not been just about numbers and audits – spanning over two decades with roots always firmly planted on Long Island, it's a testament to passion and loyalty, leadership, and the power of breaking barriers.

Marianna grew up on the South Shore. Originally joining with Mayer CPAs right out of college, she transitioned to Prager Metis upon the two firms’ combination, later rising to Managing Partner in 2022 overseeing the firm’s Woodbury outpost. She has proudly raised her family here on Long Island, too.

But of course her impact isn't confined to the Island. Prager Metis has carved a niche in servicing a broad spectrum of industries globally, ranging from small family-owned businesses to high-profile entertainment clients. The firm’s history even traces back to legendary figures like Charlie Chaplin, where a Prager Metis accountant gave him the loan that boosted his career.

The Long Island branch has been able to extend the firm’s 100 years of practice. Leaning into the firm’s reach and reputation while staying true to its local roots, it’s set up to leverage global resources to benefit homegrown businesses from manufacturing expansions in India to estate planning with global implications. And this ability to bridge local expertise with global resources underscores Marianna’s commitment to excellence and client success.

Taking a proactive approach with clients, her teams offer strategic business advice alongside traditional accounting services. "We handle everything from local restaurants to international manufacturing operations

[and] Long Island’s economic diversity makes every day unique. It’s not just about crunching numbers; it’s about helping businesses thrive. We’re not just accountants; we’re partners in our clients’ success stories.”

The same could be said for her approach to building and leading a team, as well. Navigating a traditionally male-dominated field hasn’t been without its challenges. Marianna recalls instances early in her career where she was dismissed from meetings simply because of her gender. "I’m still in rooms where I’m the only woman," Marianna reveals candidly,

"but continuing to push through these barriers has motivated me to advocate for inclusivity and mentorship. I take pride in mentoring young professionals and seeing them succeed. Our office isn’t just a workplace; it’s a [place] for collaboration and growth.”

As she continues to lead Prager Metis on Long Island, Marianna also remains focused on innovation and community engagement. "Long Island is more than just a suburban area; it’s a vibrant economic hub. I’m excited about the future and the opportunities we can create here."
