Brigada Eskwela – opportunity for service and fellowship for the Holy Spirit family of Rotary at SPED Dona Juana Elem School The annual Brigada Eskwela or National Schools Maintenance Week was held from May 15 to 21, 2017. This is a yearly activity that RCHS supports with the assistance of its youth service partners. PE Lovely Rose Paalisbo of the Rotaract Club of Holy Spirit and PE Shane Macabodbod of the Interact Club of Holy Spirit National High School mobilized a team of Rotaractors and Interactors to render the needed help at the SPED Center of Dona Juana Elementary School and at the Holy Spirit National High School.
On May 15 & 16, 2017, PEs Lovely and Shane and their team were at the SPED Center to help Master Teacher Gloria Tatad and SPED teachers clean up and arrange the teaching implements and students’ activity materials. RCHS PE Ric Salvador and PP Marcia Salvador, who were also present, paid a visit to Dr Alarico Ramos, the school principal. Dona Juana Elementary School is alma mater of Rotaractors and Interactors of Holy Spirit.

Brigada Eskwela 2017 – May 17-19 at Holy Spirit National High School On May 17, 2017, President Peth Rivera, PE Ric Salvador, PP Marcia Salvador, PP Beth Sy and Rtn Jerry Sy were at Holy Spirit National High School (HSNHS) to donate 2 pails of paint and painting accessories. They also handed over 1500 ball pens for distribution to needy students. Again, the team of Rotaractors and Interactors led by PE Lovely and PE Shane, respectively, helped in the week-long maintenance and cleaning program in HSNHS, the home school of our Interactors. Rotarians led by Pres Peth also helped with the re-painting of designated classrooms, together with the youth partners, most of them handling the paint roller brushes for the first time and enjoying it.
On May 19, 2017, at the request of HSNHS Principal, Mr Joseph Palisoc, the Rotaractors and Interactors conducted anti-dengue spraying in the school’s classrooms and surroundings to protect the students from virus-carrying mosquitoes, using an organic insect repellant liquid compound provided by PP Chinchin Jurado. Holy Spirit National High School is home school of the Interact Club of Holy Spirit and alma mater to Rotaractors of Holy Spirit.

MESSAGES FROM ROTARY LEADERS
RI President’s June 2017 Message Growing up in Chattanooga, Tenn., my brothers and I learned young to work hard. It was a lesson taught to us by our father, who had come to the United States, alone, as a teenager. He wanted our lives to be better and easier than his had been; he wanted to give us the education and opportunities that he had missed. We always knew, when he came home at 8 o'clock in the morning after working a night shift at the paper mill, that he was doing it for us. Looking back, through the prism of many years, I see in my father's hard work not only an expression of his love for us, but the universal desire of each generation to care for and lift up the next. And looking back at this year of service in Rotary, I see that desire reflected in each of us who have chosen to be part of this great organization. It is natural for parents to want to make things better for their children. Through Rotary, we can do so much more: We can make things better, not only for our own children, but for all children. We have the opportunity to care for and lift up those who need us the most – whether they are in our own community or on the other side of the world. As Judy and I have travelled the world for Rotary over the last two years, we've been reminded, again and again, of what motivates us in Rotary: the simple desire to be of assistance, to give a helping hand to those who need it. Whether it means building a blood bank in Uganda, delivering an X-ray machine to a village in Guatemala, or taking care of refugees in Lebanon, Rotarians are doing what is needed most for the people who are most in need. They're working hard for the communities they care about, helping the people of those communities lead better lives. To me, that is the essence of Rotary: that desire to be of assistance, that willingness to work for the good of others. In Rotary, when someone needs help and you can give that help, you don't walk away. You don't turn your back. You say, I'm here for you. I'll do whatever I can. And I know that whatever I do, I'm not doing it alone – I'm doing it with Rotary Serving Humanity.
JOHN F. GERM President 2016-17
Foundation Chairman’s June 2017 Message Working to ensure the Foundation's future
We've had a wonderful time celebrating all the extraordinary achievements of The Rotary Foundation's first 100 years. As we approach the end of this centennial year, it's time to turn our attention to the Foundation's future. What can we do right now to ensure that the Foundation will reach even greater heights in the next 100 years? First, we must finish our work to eradicate polio. If we fail, we risk a global return of the disease – up to 200,000 new cases every year, within 10 years. But if we succeed, the world would enjoy a savings as high as $50 billion by 2035. There really is no choice: We must succeed. What can you do? Raise money, advocate for government support, and share the inspirational story of Rotary's steadfast commitment to a polio-free world. Of course, our work to end polio isn't the only compelling story we have to tell. Your club's district and global grant projects are successes that you should share with your local community and media. Tell them about the scholars you are sponsoring, the vocational training team that is visiting or traveling from your district, and the causes the Foundation supports. After you've impressed people with the Foundation's many accomplishments, ask them to join us – as members, supporters, or volunteers. I believe that every Rotarian should make an annual contribution to the Foundation, because it is our Foundation, and we are ultimately responsible for its success – yet that doesn't mean that we shouldn't also encourage others to contribute. Telling others about our work providing clean water and basic education, fighting disease, and promoting peace helps drive interest in our Foundation and clubs. Even though you and I won't be around to celebrate the Foundation's 200th anniversary in 2117, we begin to set the stage now. Working together, we can continue the Foundation's long tradition of good work and give future Rotarians even more reasons to celebrate.

District Governor’s Message By Governor Dwight Hilarion M. Ramos, Rotary International District 3780
Rotary Serving Humanity More than a year ago we set out on a journey as the incoming district leaders of District 3780, Quezon City. We were dubbed as the All Stars, and we were ready, able and willing to take on the challenge that Rotary Year 2016-2017 had in store for us. In the words of RI President John Germ: The opportunity, and yes our responsibility to carry forth the tradition of Rotary Serving Humanity! We could not have chosen a better theme song for us then, than “I‟ll be there” by Michael Jackson – in which we said together, “We‟ll be there”. And to us, this was of course a promise not only to ourselves, to our clubs, to our beneficiaries, but also to our God whom we truly glorify with every service that we do for our fellow human beings. I have now changed our theme song to “I‟m glad that you‟re here” by Alphonse Mouzon. A tribute to all Rotarians and Clubs in District 3780, at a time that I can now truly say a promise has been fulfilled. When we started, we said “We‟ll be there” - throughout the year we fulfilled that promise by focusing and increasing rotary‟s Humanitarian Service. With the help of the District Team and Committee Chairs, and members, we have seen great strides by our clubs in all areas of focus, thereby making a big difference in our communities. So when we said we will be there, we truly delivered. And so to me, it is now our beneficiaries singing back to all of us their own song saying “We are Glad that you are here!”. Truly it has been a year of great promise and of excellent delivery. To our All Star Presidents, all the Clubs in the District, our Youth, Family of Rotary, Partners in Service, and of course to all Rotarians and District Leaders, Rotary Year 2016-17 has been a year of Rotary Serving Hu-
manity! To ensure the continuity of the service of Rotary, we at District 3780 has likewise ensured the continuity of our leadership succession. We have of course our Incoming District Governor in the person of Nestor “Chito” Borromeo, our District Governor-Elect Pastor “Mar” Reyes, Jr., and now the New District Governor- Nominee Bernadette „BH” Herrera-Dy of the Rotary Club of South Triangle, who will serve in RY 2019-2020. BH served as City Councilor of Quezon City for 9 years and garnered all the highest awards for it and 3 years as Representative of Bagong Henerasyon Partylist in the House of Representatives, again with awards as an Outstanding member thereof. She advocates youth, women and urban poor empowerment through her different programs - from putting up mobile computer schools, to delivering health services to the indigents through her mobile clinic, to establishing livelihood projects for women and youth through her skills-on-wheels and empowering them through information and skills, to fighting for consumer welfare. She believes in delivering services right at the doorsteps of those in need. If they cannot go to Bagong Henerasyon, Bagong Henerasyon will go to them! BH has been a Rotarian for 15 years and became president in RY 2005-06 during the SERVICE ABOVE SELF Year. She has served in various positions in the District and was awarded as the Rotarian of the Year in RY 2008-09. Service to Humanity has been the cornerstone of Rotary since its earliest days, and has been its main purpose ever since. Paul Harris said, “Individual effort may be turned to Individual needs, but combined effort should be dedicated to the service of mankind. The power of combined effort knows no limitation. And so, it is in no other year that we saw this power of combined effort- by all the Rotarians in their Clubs, and all the Clubs in the District. In the area of service, there was no club left behind. In Rotary Year 201617, in our responsibility to achieve good deeds, it was truly our privilege to carry forth the tradition of Rotary Serving Humanity!
From the June 2017 issue of the District 3780 Governor‟s Monthly Letter.

produce up to 2000 liters per hour when the solar panel is at its peak capacity. To manage project operations and maintenance, including how to share the potable water with the surrounding community, the Cuyab Rotary Community Corps (RCC) was formed with officers from the school faculty, parent teacher association and local government. The RCC will decide how the water will be shared with the nearby community, its price, schedule and mechanics.
The Object of Rotary The Object of Rotary is to encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise and, in particular, to encourage and foster: FIRST. The development of acquaintance as an opportunity for service; SECOND. High ethical standards in business and professions, the recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations, and the dignifying of each Rotarian's occupation as an opportunity to serve society; THIRD. The application of the ideal of service in each Rotarian's personal, business, and community life; FOURTH. The advancement of international understanding, goodwill, and peace through a world fellowship of business and professional persons united in the ideal of service.
The Four-Way Test OF THE THINGS we think, say or do 1) Is it the TRUTH? 2) Is it FAIR to all concerned? 3) Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
Q: What made your global grant project successful? Share success stories on Rotary Showcase, and think how to involve Rotarian Action Groups and Rotary Community Corps as project partners. Identifying Rotary project partners ensures that your good work is shared within our communities and the world. These partners may also help assure that the benefits from the project are sustainable.
Rotary Club of Cartagena de Indias, Colombia. The involvement of the Rotary Community Corps of Leticia, Colombia, was essential. The RCC proposed the project, helped select the beneficiaries, coordinated and supervised the construction of the sanitary facilities, and participated actively in promoting the program to everyone in the community, not only the direct beneficiaries. Our partnership with the Universidad San Buenaventura Cartagena, which provided training and donated educational materials, was also vital.
For example, through a global grant, the Rotary Club of San Pedro South in the Philippines installed a solar powered potable water treatment system at a local elementary school benefiting 1100 students. The project included a deep well with a submersible pump powered by a solar panel. The system can
The examples of RCCs cited above confirm what we often observe as characteristic of effective RCCs. RCC members must understand that they have been formed to serve as partners of Rotary clubs in providing service to the community, not a group of people who should expect to be direct beneficiaries of Rotary projects.
ROTARY WORLD AT A GLANCE
4) Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?
Rotarian Code of Conduct As a Rotarian, I will 1) Act with integrity and high ethical standards in my personal and professional life 2) Deal fairly with others and treat them and their occupations with respect 3) Use my professional skills through Rotary to mentor young people, help those with special needs, and improve people’s quality of life in my community and in the world 4) Avoid behaviour that reflects adversely on Rotary or other Rotarians

2017 All Star Awards Night Recognition of excellence and achievements of clubs during the All-Star Year Well-appointed venue, world-class entertainment, good food, cozy ambience. The 2017 District Awards and Recognition Night held on May 20, 2017 at The Blue Leaf Cosmopolitan at the Robinson’s Bridgetowne in Libis, Quezon City was an affair to remember. The program started with the presentation of Governor’s Awards. Rotary clubs were recognized by District Governor Dwight Ramos for excellence of service with continuing impact projects (signature projects), while Rotarians were given awards for exemplary and excellent leadership and achievement. At 6:00 PM, excitement filled the air as more Rotarians trooped to the venue to witness the much-awaited District Awards. After all, the theme of the All-Star District Awards Night was “Size Does Not Matter”. Many wondered how small clubs would fare when pitted against big clubs. Unlike the previous years, the 2017 awards fell under one overall category, and clubs were judged regardless of club membership size.
