Vol. XII No. 9

Rotary shares little kindness with mothers of 55 babies and children living in the indigent neighborhood of Nawasa Line in Barangay Holy Spirit. Another initiative of RC Holy Spirit led by CSP Abet Sevilla to assist victims of covid-19 pandemic

In May, Serbisyong Bayanihan of UNTV headed by veteran broadcaster Daniel Razon approached RC Holy Spirit for assistance in providing diapers and milk for 55 underprivileged children living in Area B, Nawasa Line, Barangay Holy Spirit. UNTV's Serbisyong Bayanihan is a public service program that provides an essential link between the public and appropriate authorities and organizations in order to address current issues and concerns. When the COVID-19 crisis happened, the program's slogan was "Sama Sama Laban sa COVID-19". After receiving Serbisyong Bayanihan's request, RC Holy Spirit sprang into action with the Project: ―Pantawid Milk &

Diapers". Club members contributed cash to buy the needed diapers and milk. Rtn Congresswoman Precious Castelo wasted no time and sent 55 pieces of 330-gram packs of powdered fortified milk. Using donated funds, CSP Abet Sevilla procured the diapers. He also bought additional milk so that each of the 55 beneficiary children would receive 660 grams of powdered fortifiedmilk. Serbisyong Bayanihan provided a list of the children needing diapers and milk. Using this, repacking was done and each pack was labelled with the names of the mother/guardian, the chil-

dren and their needs. On June 4, 2020, distribution was done at the barangay covered court in coordination with UNTV. Thirty-six (36) mothers/guardians came to claim the aid for the children. UNTV's reporter Vincent Arboleda interviewed some of the beneficiaries as well as PP Marcia Salvador who was present to personally hand over the packs. CSP Abet could not join due to an emergency board meeting called that morning. The event was recorded by UNTV and broadcast during the program's 4PM show that day.

Social distancing, face masks and discipline characterized the event organized by RC Holy Spirit and UNTV team as precautions against COVID-19 infection. June 4, 2020

2) Deal fairly with others and treat them and their occupations with respect

No in-person meeting or event shall be mandatory for any Rotary participant who may feel uncomfortable attending because of the pandemic.

Rotary Youth Exchange Contact your partner districts to confirm specific precautions related to COVID-19 where students are being hosted. All districts, as well as students and their parents, should consult travel advisories and guidelines issued by their embassies or consular offices, international public health agencies like the World Health Organization, and local health authorities for the latest and most relevant information. Districts should strongly consider ending exchanges and returning students home if it is safe and possible to do so. In some situations, returning a student home may present a greater risk. Determine how international travel conditions or requirements (medical screenings, preauthorization, etc.), strict quarantine measures, or the situation in a student’s host and home country may impact each student’s return depending on their specific circumstances. 4

Be careful when touching documents, magazines, boxes, money COVID particles can survive on surfaces from 3 hours to 7 days depending on material. By awoodward@businessinsider.com Business Insider 8 April 2020

Stay Home, Adhere to Social Distancing, Wash Hands with Soap & Water, Cough Etiquette The new coronavirus typically spreads via droplets when an infected person coughs or sneezes. The droplets carry viral particles and can land on someone else's nose or mouth or get inhaled. Live coronavirus particles can survive for anywhere from three hours to seven days on surfaces, depending on the material.

But people could potentially get the coronavirus if they touch a surface or object that has viral particles on it and then touch their mouth, nose, or eyes. The lifespan of the virus on a given surface depends on myriad factors, including the surrounding temperature, humidity, and type of surface. A study published April 2 in the New England Journal of Medicine, The Lancet Microbe, revealed how long the COVID-19 virus lasts on various common surfaces. The authors found that the virus lasted longest — seven days — on the outer layer of surgical masks.

Air-conditioning spread the coronavirus to 9 people sitting near an infected person in a restaurant, researchers say. ShiraFeder 13hoursago

Shira Feder BUSINESS INSIDER Apr 21, 2020, 11:49 PM

In an early-release research letter in the journal Emerging Infectious Diseases, researchers said they found that nine people sitting near one another at a restaurant in China in January got COVID-19, the illness caused by the coronavirus, and that it likely spread because of the restaurant's air-conditioner. The authors advised restaurants to increase the distance between tables and improve ventilation. As restaurants look to reopen, experts say they will need to take extra safety measures, such as reducing capacity, having employees wear masks, and capping how long diners can stay there.

Abstract During January 26–February 10, 2020, an outbreak of 2019 novel coronavirus disease in an air-conditioned restaurant in Guangzhou, China, involved 3 family clusters. The airflow direction Three seemingly healthy families were struck by COVID-19 in January after dining at neighbouring tables in a windowless restaurant in Guangzhou, China. Researchers studying the case think that the restaurant's air-conditioner blew the viral droplets of one person who was asymptomatic farther than they might have normally gone. Nine other people across the three families later got sick. The researchers described their findings in an early-release research letter published in the journal Emerging Infectious Diseases earlier this month. It's a frightening prospect for people trying to keep a healthy distance from others. But in a potentially hopeful finding for the locked-down

restaurant industry, none of the 73 other diners and eight employees in the restaurant at the time got sick, the researchers added. "To prevent the spread of the virus in restaurants, we recommend increasing the distance between tables and improving ventilation," they wrote. For the struggling restaurants desperate to reopen in the coming months, the researchers' findings are evidence that work will not just return to normal after the pandemic, but there might be ways to limit the risk of spreading the virus. There will likely be caps on how long patrons can spend eating, restaurants will operate at lower capacity, air-conditioning or heating may have to stay off, and employees might be advised to wear masks.

Researchers think the source of this outbreak was a 63-year-old woman who did not show symptoms — such as a fever and a cough — until later in the day. She went to a hospital and tested positive for COVID-19. Within two weeks, four of her relatives had also gotten sick, as did five other diners in two other families, who seemed to have no other connection except for their time in the restaurant. It surprised the researchers, since the novel coronavirus is transmitted by droplets, or heavy particles that tend not to float farther than 1 meter, and the families were sitting farther apart than that. They said it seemed that the air-conditioning could have blown the viral droplets farther.

New safety measures are necessary in the fight against COVID-19. However, according to DOH, flattening the curve is not enough. The government agency stressed that to defeat the pandemic, people must take to heart and imbibe the idea of being careful and observant. They also asked people to check facts before making a decision. DOH also promotes the following health protocols to curb the spread of the virus:

 

Wearing a face mask; Physical distancing of 1 meter; 20-second hand-washing with soap and water; and Avoiding face-touching.

The government agency also reiterated the importance of staying fit and observing a healthy diet. Our body is our best defense against sickness. To fully understand the efforts of DOH, like, follow, and watch Beat COVID-19 Virtual Presser on DOH’s Facebook page or go to their official website.
