Team Holy Spirit continues support for Brigada Eskwela at adopted schools to help them prepare for opening For 8 consecutive years, RC Holy Spirit has supported Brigada Eskwela at our adopted schools, Dona Juana Elementary School and Holy Spirit National High School. The Brigada Eskwela or National Schools Maintenance Week began on May 20, 2019 in all public schools that aimed to bring together all education stakeholders to participate and contribute time, effort and resources to prepare public school facilities for the opening of the school year.

May 20, 2019 At the Dona Juana Elementary School SPED Center, RCHS led by Pres JR Delgra and PE Abet Sevilla turned over garbage bins and garbage bags, ceiling broom, DOMEX toilet cleaning liquid, and flower pots on May 20, 2019. Also present during the turn -over were PP Ric Salvador, PP Marcia Salvador and PN Jerry Sy. The next day, the following were turned over: 3 gallons paint, paint brushes and thinner for the painting of cabinets and chairs. Interactors led by President Alea Mae Reytiran and Rotaractors led by Van Jeff Aficial helped in cleaning the rooms and arranging teaching materials, as did the Rotarians present. Donated materials came from RCHS members.

May 24, 2019 At the Holy Spirit National High School on May 24, 2019, the Holy Spirit team of Rotarians, Rotaractors and Interactors conducted an

anti-dengue spraying activity in the main and Republic campuses to help safeguard the health of students and faculty, with the use of Bioneem, an organic anti -dengue repellent solution provided by PP Chinchin Doran. PE Abet provided snacks for the volunteers who excitedly went around the two (2) campuses for the anti-dengue spraying, using hand-held sprayers. Two officers of the Rotaract Club of Holy Spirit, Director Van Jeff Aficial and finance chair Rose Marie CaĹˆonaso, supported the Rotarians and Interactors in all activities at the HSNHS on May 24th. Also, on May 24, 2019, RCHS turned

over about 350 National Geographic magazines to Ms Erica Amante, librarian of the HSNHS main library, witnessed by Interact Adviser Maam Beth Auxillo.. The magazines came from the 25-year collection of PP Ric Salvador. Present during the activity at HSNHS were Pres JR Delgra, PE Abet Sevilla, PN Jerry Sy, PP Ric Salvador and PP Marcia Salvador. At the HSNHS Republic campus, a team of military personnel was seen repairing desks and repainting hallways during their 3-hours deployment. They were served delicious lunch prepared by grateful parents.

ROTARY supports National Road Safety Advocacy

On May 23, 2019, the Land Transportation Office (LTO) held a Road Safety Advocacy Program as part of its 107th founding anniversary celebration, and in commemoration of Road Safety Week. It was held at the Bulwagang Edu at the LTO Head Office on East Avenue. Over 300 participants, consisting mostly of the youth, attended the forum. RC Holy Spirit was represented by 22 Interactors led by President Alea Mae Reytiran and 6 Rotaractors led by Director Van Jeff Aficial. District Interact Chair PP Marcia Salvador was present. The program which was scheduled from 8AM-12NN extended up to 3PM. It was a very informative program where everybody listened to various speakers talk about Road Safety, Land Transportation Laws/ Rules/Regulations. Department of Transportation Undersecretary Mark Richmund de Leon talked about the cost of road crashes and its impact on our economy. He said that in 2018, 12,000 individuals were killed in road crashes. He also mentioned government plans to prevent the rising cases of road crashes, i.e., education and training programs, modernization schemes. Dr John Juliard Go of the

WHO reported that globally 49% of road crash victims are pedestrians and cyclists. The PNP likewise reported that road crashes are the #1 cause of death among 5-29 year olds. Gov Mar Reyes expressed Rotary’s interest to partner with LTO in this Road Safety Advocacy and asked Rotarians present to include it in their plans for the coming years. Having lost his mother in a road crash when she was only 50 years old, he lamented the lack of a pedestrian overpass where the incident happened. Gov Mar was very happy that USEC de Leon and his directors have become aware of Rotary’s power to reach schools, barangays and communities, given the turn-out of participants who were all given a t-shirt, cap, snacks and lunch. The youth were asked to pledge to be a road safety advocate. Award-winning actor Paulo Avelino regaled the crowd with his presence and tips on road safety, having been injured in six (6) incidents while riding his motorcycle. One thing that the program stressed to all the participants: ROAD SAFETY IS A SHARED RESPONSIBILITY.

“Your time is limited so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma — which is living with the results of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of others’ opinion drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition.”

DO SOMETHING TODAY THAT YOUR FUTURE SELF WILL THANK YOU FOR. Cited by Ms Rebecca Lee in her talk with youth leaders during the INTERACT LEADERSHIP ASSEMBLY, December 2, 2017
