Inspiring Flourishing Lives to Transform Our Globe.
From our Headmaster
Dear Members of the Ridley Community,
We are pleased to present the 2013-2014 Annual Report and we are incredibly grateful for what it represents: a passionate community of alumni, faculty, staff, parents, Governors and friends who wholeheartedly believe in our mission of preparing meaningful and flourishing lives by teaching the habits of mind, body and spirit, and the values needed to lead in a global society.
In retrospect, the school year 2013-2014 was a year of celebration, a year of wonderful memories and fellowship, a year of change and innovation and a year of history in the making. Ridley students, JK to grade 12, experienced learning and discovery, inspiring guest speakers, exciting games and regattas, service trips to China and El Salvador and the memorable kick off to our 125th birthday celebration in September. Of historic note, Ridley graduated its first cohort of IB diploma students in June and we began the new school year as a fully accredited IB PYP (Primary Years Programme) school serving all students in Junior Kindergarten to grade 6. This exceptional educational experience is made possible by a community enthusiastically willing to invest in Ridley with time, talent, and treasure, and we count our blessings for this unwavering support. I would like to acknowledge and thank a few volunteers in particular.
First, I would like to thank and congratulate Linda Alexanian ‘85, Don McFarlane ‘76 and Scott Paterson ‘82, Ridley Renaissance Campaign Chairs. They led an enthusiastic group of volunteers whose hard work contributed to the tremendous success of the campaign. Our 125th anniversary celebrations over the course of the past year were brilliantly led by Brian Iggulden ‘67 and Trish Loat, our 125 Co-Chairs and their committee of volunteers, and culminated in the 125 BASH, an unforgettable night of celebration, co-chaired by Maria Menechella and Bill Hutton ’76, and their team of volunteers. I would also like to thank Tina Brown, President of the Ridley College Family Guild for 2013 – 2014, as well as members of the RCFG Executive committee: Linda Chang, Eva Schmidt and Nancy Elder for their dedication and many hours of service to the Ridley community.
Finally, I would like to honour the hundreds of Ridleians who contributed to the creation of our bold new strategic plan, Inspiring Flourishing Lives – Transforming Our Globe. This plan provides Ridley with both clarity of purpose and a compelling strategic direction that will launch Ridley into its next 125 years. Recently, I referenced our first Headmaster, the Reverend Dr. J.O. Miller, and his address to those gathered for Ridley’s first Prize Day in 1889. On that auspicious July day, he concluded that the nascent Ridley College had “distinct and definite work to do”. As we embark on the next leg of our school’s journey, I suggest that we keep the Rev. Miller’s words in mind. In addition to being “distinct and definite”, the work of our school community must be of enduring value. With the support and loyalty of the expansive Ridley community, I am confident that we will be successful in achieving our vision of “inspiring flourishing lives to transform our globe”.
To the entire community, please accept our heartfelt gratitude for everything you do to help Ridley thrive as a truly special place of learning, service and discovery. With best wishes, J. Edward Kidd Headmaster

RIDLEY ANNUAL REPORT
From the Chair of the Board
I am pleased to provide you with some brief commentary on the 2013-14 year.
From the Board’s perspective the most significant event in the year was the endorsement of the new strategic plan. The Headmaster has covered some of the detail in his report so I will limit my comments to saying that the process was fulsome and was developed with the involvement and participation across the entire Ridley Family – students, alumni, board, faculty, management and parents to be specific. I believe that the future for the school is bright and the direction ahead clearer. I look to Ridley’s future with optimism!
Certainly the election of Georgina Black ’85 as the new Board Chair in September was also an event of significance. Georgina will bring positive and energized leadership to the Chair, and I wish her the very best of success as she leads the Board in its support of the school and the implementation of its plans and ambitions.
From the community’s perspective surely the celebration of our 125th year deserves mention. The many events that took place throughout the year and culminated in the BASH at the school in September were exciting and successful. Countless hours in both the planning and event execution were undertaken by volunteers from across the Ridley family and I would like to acknowledge their wonderful efforts. Ridley is fortunate indeed to have a community where so many care and equally so many commit. This is vital to the lifeblood of the school and, on behalf of the Board, I thank those of you who step up and give back.

Christmas Market One of the most anticipated events of the Ridley school year, the Guild-hosted Christmas Market is a half day event that attracts not only students, their families, and staff and faculty, but also visitors from the surrounding community. This event features music by Ridley students, vendor sales, fundraising, friend-raising and Christmas cheer. Our fundraising total for 2013's market surpassed the $12,000 mark. Gift to Ridley College The Ridley College Family Guild donated $140,000 to Ridley College.
$10,000 has been directed to our Scholarship and Bursary funds, and $130,000 has funded the purchase and installation of a Live Stream Video Broadcasting system. We are very excited about this project and the impact it will have on current and future Ridley students and families. RIDLEY ANNUAL REPORT
