The Ridley Hall Annual Fund 2013

RIDLEY HALL ANNUAL FUND 2013 Our latest inspection report, published in May 2012, commended Ridley Hall for ‘high quality theological education, ministerial training and formation for ministry.’ The College was described as being ‘in very good heart and a vibrant learning, worshipping and praying community’, benefitting from Cambridge’s rich academic and ecumenical environment and providing ‘exciting opportunities’ for contributing to the mission of the wider church. To sustain these high standards, resources are needed over and above official sources of funding from the Church. For that reason, we set up our Annual Fund in 2011. We have been greatly encouraged by the generous response of our supporters since then, receiving a total of £75,000 in 2012. This included gifts of all sizes and I warmly invite you to help our Annual Fund continue to help us to flourish, with far-reaching benefits for the Church. Andrew Norman Principal of Ridley Hall

Why give to the Ridley Annual Fund? Because: • You want to give back • You believe that theological education matters • You want others to have the opportunities you did • You believe in the importance of residential formation • You want to invest in future Christian leadership • You know that your gift, no matter how small, has a real impact!

When you make a gift to the Annual Fund you are affirming your belief in the importance of the values that Ridley Hall upholds. The unrestricted nature of the Fund allows the College to direct the money to the areas of greatest need at any given time. Last year it helped finance a host of projects, including: the annual Prayer Weekend for first-year students and their spouses; a muchneeded new kitchen for ‘B’ staircase; repair of the chapel clock; and the redesign of the college’s website, due to be re-launched in 2013.

“After years of various forms of lay ministry, training at Ridley was far more transforming than I had expected. The incredible value of residential training is now clear to me; the Ridley community has blessed me in countless ways.” Revd Anders Litzell, Ry 2010-2012

The 2013 Annual Fund Campaign

People are often surprised to find out that Ridley Hall is a charity, but from its earliest days the College has relied on the generosity of its supporters, and it still does today. Church of England funding does not cover the full costs of training, and the College has no historical endowment to supplement fees. The Annual Fund is currently committed to ensuring the continuation of the annual Prayer Weekend, which costs around £8,000 per year to run, but in addition, there are a number of areas which it is hoped the fund will be able to support in 2013, including: • The Chapel: an enhanced PA system for the chapel • Our Families: purchase and hire of children’s toys, games and entertainment to keep Ridley family-friendly! • IT: completion of the upgrade and relaunch of the College website • Ridley’s Heritage: conservation and display materials to support our collections of early books, manuscripts, and historical records • Our Buildings: An ongoing five-year programme of repair of the College’s windows

“The Prayer Weekend reminded me of one of the main reasons we chose Ridley over other theological colleges: the excellent provision for spouses. I haven’t been disappointed since I arrived.” Andria Hutchings, wife of ordinand Tom Hutchings

How to give to Ridley Gifts can be made by credit card, by cheque made payable to “Ridley Hall” or by standing order. Further details and a donation form can be obtained from the Ridley Hall website www.ridley.cam.ac.uk or from the Development Office at development@ridley.cam.ac.uk tel: 01223 741079. Please consider Gift Aiding your contribution. For every £1 donated with Gift Aid we can claim a further 0.25p back. US taxpayers can make tax-effective gifts to Ridley through Cambridge in America, at www.cantab.org or Cambridge in America, PO Box 9123 JAF BLG, New York, NY 10087-9123. All donations must be earmarked for Ridley Hall.

Lots of people giving small amounts, ideally through Gift Aid, can provide a substantial Annual Fund which we can use for the benefit of the whole community. Regular giving enables Ridley to plan ahead and, especially when gift aided, can add up to a significant amount over time, for example: Amount per month £10 £20 £30

Amount annually £150 £300 £450

Total over 5 years £750 £1,500 £2,250

10 donors each giving £10 monthly, Gift Aided, would together give £7,500 to Ridley over 5 years.
