This is an excellent addition to the series African Wildlife Experience. It will help you understand what you can expect during your African safari. The plan for this season was to present informational but exciting coverage of the Leopard. However, Cranston, a client and a photographer who had a great time in Lake Nakuru's Amboseli National Parks changed our minds. As I write this, I am in Kenya. This country is known as the cradle of humanity, the land of contrasts and a wonderland full of treasures. As I mentioned earlier in the migration update, the greatest wonder of the globe is now on. Many visitors worldwide are flocking to Maasai Mara for a first-hand glimpse.

I am referring to the wildebeest migration. You might wonder why I must go on with all of this instead of getting to the point. Well! As a psychiatrist, I would tell you "......... that it was necessary. My primary purpose is to give you tips on what to expect during a safari. Don't be discouraged if your expectations of seeing the big five, monster lizards or specific birds are unmet. As I mentioned, Kenya offers many attractions. I created this series to show you what Kenya has to offer in all its diversity. I'll tell you what's fascinating about the world's tallest mammal. The world's tallest terrestrial animal is the giraffe.
This is one of the fascinating animals, mainly due to its long neck, which can make it cumbersome and more susceptible to some problems. As we go along, you'll be able to see them and learn more. Giraffa Camelopardalis are African ruminant mammals that live in open savannahs South of the Sahara. They have one family member, Okapi. The reticulated Giraffes have a beautiful pattern in golden browns. They are mainly quadrangular in form and have a coarsely netted (reticulated) pattern.
Both males and females have straight manes that run along their necks. Both sexes also have horn-like structures, called ossicones, on their heads between the ears. These ossicones
appear at birth as small knobs of cartilage covered with skin and hair. As they age, these nodules become bony. In Africa, Kenya and other parts of Africa, giraffes are widespread and some other animals like moosegazete
Cranston will be the witness to this. It's easy to spot the three species of giraffes found in this region of the world. The vertebrae are larger. They have a long, straight tail that measures approximately one yard. The terminal tuft is made of black hair. Their tongues measure between 18 and 21 inches in length. The pink colour of the inner portion of the tongue changes to a purple-black colour after 6 inches. ......... I would love to see them browsing on the acacias. Giraffes are long-legged and have long necks. They also have long tongues and prehensile tongues. Their mouth is leathery for food gathering.
Their colouration is protective. They are tall and have good eyesight to ensure their safety. High blood pressure (240/160 in Giraffes) is necessary for blood pumping to the brain. A herd is a small group of five to fifteen individuals made up of one bull and several young. Other bulls can be found alone or in pairs. The giraffe's unique sleeping position is also enjoyable. They usually lie down for between 1 and 12 minutes. As an adaptation to prolonged droughts in their home areas, they can go without water for up to a month. The browsing ruminant Giraffe eats a lot throughout the day.
They prefer young leaves and shoots from the tops of acacia trees, which can sometimes shape the trees they visit regularly. They are a water-loving species and prefer regular water intake, although they can go without water for up to three days. Their speed can reach 35 mph. Leopards (prey upon young), lions and man are all predators.
Giraffes stomp with their hooves and slam on their heads. Giraffes can breed one calf per year, although they are not seasonal breeders. They usually produce one calf after a 14-15 month gestation. The newborn giraffe calves reach 6 feet tall and weigh between 87 and 107 lbs. At 3-4 years old, they become sexually mature and can live up to 25 years. They can also be kept in captivity for up to 30 years.
The giraffe's full body size can only be reached at five years old. The brain is emptied by a series of check valves in the inch-wide jugular vein that prevents sudden backflow from the head. They are more vulnerable to predators when they drink or lie down. They can see colours such as red-orange or yellow-green. Their scientific name is "camel-leopard like one who walks quickly."
Spot patterns in their spots are as unique as fingerprints. The male's head/shoulder length is about 13 feet. The height of the shoulders is between 8-12' and 15-19'. Overall weight is 1,100-2 800 lbs. Giraffes can make a variety of sounds, but they are seldom heard. You may hear them grunting or snorting when they are alarmed. Females can whistle to call their offspring, while calves may bleat.
You can learn much more about giraffes, especially how they walk. Nearly every national park or reserve in Kenya contains at least one species. For those interested, I recommend a safari to Samburu to see the most stunning of the three. Then you can travel to Lake Nakuru to see the largest and most endangered of the three. You can then travel to Amboseli and Mara, where you will enjoy the sight of the Maasai giraffe.
