About Me The Arizona landscape has encompassed my whole life. I grew up spending hours hiking and it was everyday contact with the Sonoran Desert that fueled my passion for reconnecting us with it through design. I am currently a first-year graduate student pursuing architecture with a focus on sustainability and environmentally sensitive construction.

INTERTWINE : TIMBER IN THE CITY SPRING 2019
Core Architectural Studio II - Scott Murff
PROJECT
Intertwine celebrates and facilitates healthy biophilic living in the largest and most diverse borough in New York, the Queens. This site strives to be a hub for the growing community and a model of sustainable building with the use of multiple wood technologies. The mass timber structure consists of Cross Laminated Timber (CTL) and Dowel Laminated Timber (DLT) in a modular pod assembly. This allows ease with construction through wood panel and faรงade fabrication which will reduce building time and onsite waste. A ramp on the northwest corner connects the community via the riverfront park to the second-floor rooftop where rows of community gardens grow to support the local economy and provide healthy options for the surrounding neighborhoods. In order to facilitate external transportation, a road is added stretching from Vernon Boulevard to the riverfront park, which enables others to come and enjoy this public space.

DESERT PAVILION : SPECULATION FALL 2019
Advanced Architectural Studio I - Jay Atherton
PROJECT
Desert Pavilion derived from the methods that artist Sol LeWitt used to create his wall drawings. What started as fifty random points became two thousand lines, intersecting and connecting with every other one to form a geometric shape. Through process model making, these lines transformed into the structure of the pavilion. After various iterations, the lines developed into a secondary paneling system to defuse light and play with shadows. The setting of the structure would be between two sides of a canyon, folding over the river that flows through.

PROJECT
F.A.B.R.I.C. is a fashion incubator that provides services such as no-minimum sewn product manufacturing, design services, consulting, workshops, collaborative workspaces, event hosting and support. This model empowers emerging fashion brands by providing resources they need to establish themselves in the highly competitive industry. Enabling designers to manipulate their workspace enables them to facilitate an environment more conducive to their style.

ADAPTIVE REUSE: UNION STATION FALL 2019
Advanced Architectural Studio I - Jay Atherton
PROJECT
Union Station aims to establish relationships between people and the surrounding Phoenix community through the interweaving of green spaces, educational programs, and mass transit. Phoenix Union Station was once a gateway to the city, and in the spirit of adaptive reuse, it will be restored into a hub for the public transit systems, as well as, a community center. The landforms guide users, just like a river, through the outdoor programming, ultimately leading them to the community center. These additive measures were taken in order to preserve the original character of both existing buildings. The push and pull of the facade system mimic horizontal ribs that passively shade the buildings. Through a system of synergies between ground and building, ecologies start to emerge, connecting this historical site with a new narrative.

VERSATILITY : LIGHT FOR HOPE FALL 2019 Free Arts for Abused Childern of Arizona Charity Auction
PROJECT
Versatility was made by cutting a pattern of slits into wood in order to make it bend. This reduction introduced fluidity to the design which altered the standard properties of the material. Each panel asserts this notion through curvature, allowing light to bend and flow in warm ambiance. The very nature of wood is versatile as it can transcend and adapt to function in extraordinary ways.

EXPLORATIONS : PROCESS STUDIES ONGOING Personal Works
PROJECT
Sketching and model-making are essential elements to preliminary design. Combining these methods provides visual evidence for whether a design will be sucessful or not. By studing personal interests such as nature, new insights can be translated into projects and then refined through developed iterations over various models.

VALDRADA : INVISIBLE CITIES SPRING 2019 Looking, Thinking, Sketching - Victor Irizarry
PROJECT
‘...At times the mirror increases a thing’s value, at times denies it. Not everything that seems valuable above the mirror maintains its force when mirrored. The twin cities are not equal, because nothing that exists or happens in Valdrada is symmetrical: every face and gesture is answered, from the mirror, by a face and gesture inverted, point by point. The two Valdradas live for each other, their eyes interlocked; but there is no love between them.’ -Italo Calvino
