FRIDAY, 18/10 21:00 Kaņepes Culture Centre, Skolas iela 15

This year’s RIGA IFF film industry networking event will be attended by the Board Members of the European Film Academy, Baltic animation industry experts, and virtual reality enthusiasts. The evening will serve as an opportunity to meet other foreign guests of the festival and Latvian film professionals.

BALTIC ANIMATION MEET-UP

Anna Zača Curator of RIGA IFF BAMU Head of Latvian Animation Association Board Member at European Animation Awards

The Baltic animation industry has a long history – its largest studios developed during the Soviet era, with some of them still being the most active players in the industry. Along with producing children’s films, the film studios also nurtured the region’s generation of auteur film directors, who have become a mark of Baltic distinction and artistic excellence in the world. The political upheaval of the 90s was followed by a slump, but the Baltic animation industry is back on its feet – thriving, even – yet its fragmented structure is an obstacle to a common sustainable policy that would greatly aid in sustaining and promoting this upward trend.

The aim of the Baltic Animation Meet-Up (BAMU) is to create time and space for communication between animation industry professionals in the three Baltic States. To promote the development of the industry in the region as a whole, a variety of aspects must be addressed, beginning with current issues in education, distribution, and co-production.
