AN ICONIC LINEAGE

Aston Martin DB11 SKOVSHOVED MAGAZINE | NO.2 | PAGE 22

LUXURY CARS

DB11 is the Aston Martin you've been waiting for.

Spectacular standard-bearer for an all-new generation of cars, DB11 is the most powerful and most efficient "DB" production model in Aston Martin's history. At its heart a brand new twin-turbocharged V12 engine delivers phenomenal performance combined with vastly reduced fuel consumption and emissions. Pioneering aerodynamics cheat the wind, generate exceptional stability and preserve our world-renowned design purity. Underpinned by a new bonded aluminium body structure that combines lightness, strength and increased interior space, DB11 sets a formidable new standard for sp rting Grand Tourers and takes the legendary "DB" lineage to unprecedented heights.

SKOVSHOVED MAGAZINE | NO.2 | PAGE 23

LUXURY CARS

A design evolution History could have clipped our creative wings, but we used it to our advant age. To honour the "DB" legacy we distilled Aston Martin design down to its very essence and used it to create something evolved, bold and fresh. Something called DB11. Instantly recognisable, its design looks inherently right, yet utterly different. Its form develops organically from nose to tail; muscle and sinew building volume and shaping surface details, with classical proportions providing the perfect bone structure beneath. Familiar elements have evolved. The iconic radiator grille has been reinterpreted, its lines and features amplified and celebrated. All-new LED head and tail-lights create expressive visual signatures. Triumphant new elements, such as the dramatic roof strake, underline DB11's confidence and originality, while the new side strakes, key to DB11's pioneering aerodynamics, bring harmony of form and function. The pure and honest product of authentic, justified lines, DB11 is an immaculate work of automotive art.

SKOVSHOVED MAGAZINE | NO.2 | PAGE 24

LUXURY CARS

Engineered to exhilarate Stronger, safer, more dynamic and space-efficient. These are the ambitious targets we set when creating DB11's body structure. Increasing the whe elbase by 65 mm has enabled the positioning of the V12 engine further back for near-perfect weight distribution. The door apertures are larger, front seat occupants enjoy 10 mm of extra headroom, while rear wards, a 54 mm increase in headroom and 87 mm more legroom mean DB11 is a true 2+2. With a luggage compartment that can swallow two golf bags and ISOFIX points enabling the fitment of two child seats, this exhilarating Grand Tourer is real-world prepared.

Powertrain DB11's new twin-turbocharged 5.2-litre V12 engine, boasting 600 bhp and 700 Nm of torque, makes this the most powerful DB production model in Aston Martin's history. It's also the most dynamic, reaching 200 mph, with 62 mph dispatched in 3.9 seconds. What's less expected is that DB11 should also be the cleanest and most fuel efficient DB ever produced, yet such are the tremendous advances made by this landmark car. Effortlessly potent, DB11's beating hear t has huge reserves of power, delivered as the revs climb, with a rich, potent howl. Intelligent bank activation means DB11's appetite for the open road is not matched by thirst. By alternating between banks of cylinders during low demand periods, less fuel is consumed. Full performance is immediately restored on driver demand.

SKOVSHOVED MAGAZINE | NO.2 | PAGE 25

LUXURY CARS

Performance driving dynamics DB11 exploits its inner strength and immense V12 per formance with completely re-worked chassis, suspension, steering and electronics. Revised suspension with adaptive damping and multiple driver-selectable dynamics enrich DB11's adaptability. Select GT mode for exemplary ride quality, or switch to Sport for added firmness and agility assisted by the new electric power steering and Torque Vectoring limited-slip differential. Selecting Sport Plus entirely turns-up the intensity; suspension, steering, eight-speed automatic transmission and Torque Vectoring system work in unison to truly awaken the sports car within.

Technology and craftsmanship An immersive private space awaits inside the world's finest sporting Grand Tourer. DB11's sumptuous natural materials, the highest levels of craftsmanship and state-of-the-art climate control and infotainment technology provide the ultimate in comfort and convenience. A full-colour 12" TFT LCD display for the all-new instrument cluster presents primary vehicle information with absolute clarity, while a second, centrally-mounted 8" TFT screen is dedicated to infotainment. Controlled via an intuitive rotary control, with an optional touchpad offering character recognition, multi-touch and gesture support, the new satellite navigation and audio system (Aston Martin Premium Audio or Bang & Olufsen BeoSound system upgrades available) have never been easier to operate. Inside DB11 is a world that can be per fectly in-tune with your unique style, thanks to an inspiring palette of colours and a vast array of detailing options. From carefully co-ordinat-

ed tones to sharp contrasts in hue and texture, your choices are virtually limitless. Nexus quilting and Celestial perforation add layers of beauty, while ornate leatherwork, such as intricate brogue detailing, create areas of visual and tactile delight.

Hidden secrets, inspired aerodynamics Not content with mastering airflow over DB11's bodywork, we pioneered innovative ways of flowing air through its bodywork. The inspired results – so innovative that they have patents pending – are two powerful, yet beautifully simple solutions. We call them Curlicue and the Aston Mar tin Aeroblade™. Derived directly from our race cars, Curlicue is a gill-like vent incorporated into each front wheel arch lining, reducing unwanted front-end aerodynamic lift. Neatly concealed beneath the clamshell bonnet, its design vents high-pressure air from the top of the front wheel arches though recessed apertures behind the iconic Aston Martin side strakes. Further high pressure air is extracted from the back of each wheel arch through discreet stirrup vents positioned aft of the front wheels. The Aston Martin Aeroblade™ harnesses airflow along DB11's flanks to enhance stability at the rear. Intakes positioned in the base of the C-pillars draw airflow within the bodywork before venting it from slots in the rear bootlid. Acting like a conventional spoiler, this jet of disrupted air reduces aerodynamic lift, cleverly obviating the need for an upswept "flip" in the tail. When more stability is needed, a small active spoiler automatically deploys from the bootlid to increase the effectiveness of the Aston Martin Aeroblade™. When no longer required it retracts back into the bootlid to preserve DB11's uncluttered lines.

B   EACH HOTEL – with atmosphere and good food

Skovshoved Hotel is a proud classic beach hotel with plenty of history, newly restored rooms and a restaurant with an innovative international cuisine.

by Pia Remillard Skovshoved Hotel is the story of a valued sanctuary for the citizens of Copenhagen and surroundings through several hundred years. The buildings originate from as far back as 1660 - when the place entertained thirsty travellers passing through the little fishing village of Skovshoved. Over the years Skovshoved Hotel has had several famous owners. In 2002 Tofa and Ivan Nadelmann bought the hotel, and a total refurbishment was initiated in deep respect of the spirit of the hotel and the history of the house. Today the hotel stands as an architectural gem with its own wooden pier and close to several lovely beaches. The decor is stylish and characterized by a relaxed urban style with dark furniture and wooden floors, beautiful kelim carpets, original art on the walls and large comfortable sofas.

Hot hotel Over the years many highly respected head chefs have been in command, i.e. internationally famous master chef Søren Gericke and Erling Lauterbach, Philippe Houdet, Rasmus Kjær and Frank Svärd Pedersen. The strong team in the kitchen still makes sure that the standard is high and that the informal luxury is expressed in everything served.

By Lisbeth Brahe Kristina Rosing's career was more or less mapped out for her. She graduated from BEC Design and Margrethe Skolen in Copenhagen, where she learned how to design, produce and monitor trends in the fashion industry, and was about to fulfil her dream of becoming a fashion designer. She was happy and bursting with ideas. But then her life took a slightly different turn. Now here she is in 2016, aged 34, jewellery designer, partner and mother to a baby boy. For Kristina Rosing, the decision to become a jewellery designer came naturally since she had always been closely involved in the family watch and jewellery business, Ragnar Ure. Kristina Rosing is the third generation in the family company in Odense, which she runs with her parents Alice and Steen Ragnar. Growing up in the midst of the business, Kristina Rosing spent her childhood surrounded by watches and jewellery, and as time passed, she

felt more and more inclined to move from fashion design to jewellery design. Today she manages the jewellery side of the business, which includes her own brand io jewels, and is in charge of design and development.

Admirer of Rolex The hallmark of Kristina Rosing's jewellery collections is her use of finest-quality materials, such as gold, diamonds and pearls. Her range of rings, necklaces, earrings and bracelets is extensive. Kristina Rosing has gained particular popularity for her unique bracelets, which

feature in her io jewels range and are designed around a simple but elegant rubber bracelet. Every single piece of jewellery fashioned by Kristina Rosing exudes quality. "I am fascinated by Rolex – their elegant, classic style, superb quality and ability to keep up the high demand for their watches. Like Rolex, I focused from the start on producing jewellery that is appropriate for busy lives and active wear. And it's so encouraging to see that the customers cherish and appreciate the value of excellent quality". One example of the quality of her jewellery is the lovingly selected gemstones that adorn some of the rings from the io jewels range. A number of the rings are set with a brilliant-cut diamond with the rare "Hearts & Arrows" cut, where, if you look closely, you can discern eight hearts and eight arrows in the stone. Only a gemstone of the very highest quality can have such a cut.

Be bold Kristina Rosing finds inspiration for her jewellery design everywhere – on journeys, in nature and in art – as well as at jewellery trade fairs, and she doesn't shy away from combining materials such as rubber with different elements in gold, white gold or rose gold engraved or set with diamonds. "My time in the fashion industry definitely gives me an edge, since it taught me how trends develop. And I understand how jewellery should complement clothing. We are always open to new ideas and have been quite successful designing jewellery for men. I am pretty sure that more and more Danish men will be wearing jewellery in the future if the right jewellery is out there."

Involved every step of the way The actual manufacturing takes place in Denmark, which means that Kristina Rosing can be part of every stage of the work process, from the drawing board to the finished item. "It's a privilege to be able to work closely with our goldsmith, for example. We feed off each others' ideas, which lends the production process a certain dynamic, although not all of our ideas lead to something concrete and some designs can stay on the drawing board for up to a year before we start producing them." At the moment Kristina Rosing is working on a new pearl collection. Her father created the collection, but she is in close dialogue with him over the details of the design. The style has been kept simple and minimalist and consists of pearls surrounded by diamonds. To ensure that each creation meets the criteria of top design, quality and finish, she tests them herself before they are produced. "To make sure a new design is just the way I want it, I wear the jewellery before it is manufactured so I can correct small details and see how the design works in the context of everyday life and social occasions."

What jewellery does Kristina Rosing herself dream about? "I'm always dreaming about a new piece of jewellery I can flaunt. Right now I'm designing some gorgeous and unique cocktail earrings, which I'm looking forward to wearing because they look sumptuous and classy." Follow io jewels on Instagram: @io_jewels

CEO IN 2015 SKOVSHOVED MAGAZINE | NO.2 | PAGE 52

A record high number of companies replaced their CEO in 2015.

During the past year, a record high number of new CEOs assumed the senior positions in the largest public companies in the world. At the same time, there is a clear tendency to bring in senior executives from outside the company according to a new survey by PwC’s Strategy&. According to the survey CEO Success Study from PwC’s Strategy& (PwC’s global strategy consulting team), 17% of the largest 2,500 listed companies changed their CEO, more than in any of the previous 16 years of the CEO Success Study from PwC’s Strategy&.

SKOVSHOVED MAGAZINE | NO.2 | PAGE 53

COUNSELING

Furthermore, over the past several years more big companies have been deliberately choosing their new CEO from outside of the company. Outsiders accounted for as many as 22% of all CEOs brought in via a planned succession between 2012-2015. This is 50% more than in the period 2004-2007 when outsiders accounted for 14%, which is an indication that hiring an outsider has become more of an intentional leadership choice than a necessity. “Hiring an executive from outside a company to serve as chief executive officer used to be seen as a last resort. That is not the case anymore with the many changes that companies are facing today. The Study shows that especially companies experiencing a high level of disruption choose to hire outsiders for the CEO position,” says Kim Füchsel, Managing Partner of PwC. The majority of companies have continued to promote insiders to the CEO position and this will probably remain the preferred succession-planning practice. In 2015, 23% of all CEOs were outsiders whereas 77% were insiders. Outsider CEO candidates have, however, closed a performance gap that the Study previously found. ”While an internal CEO candidate may have an excellent record of achieving the business goals the company has pursued in the past, many boards are recognising that this candidate may lack the skills needed to lead the company through the changes necessary to win in the future” Kim Füchsel explains.

Regional differences The Study shows regional differences reflected in the frequency by which companies choose to hire outside CEO candidates. Companies headquartered in Western Europe hired out-

SKOVSHOVED MAGAZINE | NO.2 | PAGE 54

COUNSELING

sider CEOs twice as frequently as companies headquartered in the USA or Canada between 2012-2015. ”Boards of directors following succession plans should always have a deep bench of strong, internal candidates. However, if the company needs to make transformational changes at the strategic and operating levels, like eg the current digitisation issue, boards should factor the outsider option into their succession planning”, Kim Füchsel recommends. He comments that outsider candidates do not have biases or commitments built up over the years in the company. Therefore, they may be able to look at the organisation from a broader perspective based on an understanding of the future expectations of the company.” “Whether insider or outsider candidates are chosen, there is, however, no doubt that the boards that plan for CEO succession more carefully are more likely to have better performing companies”, Kim Füchsel concludes.

About the Study PwC’s Strategy& identified the world’s 2,500 largest public companies on 1 January 2015 (source: Bloomberg). We then identified the companies that had experienced a chief executive succession event in 2015 and cross-checked data using a wide variety of electronic sources in many languages. In this year’s report, we also took a closer look at the circumstances in which outsider CEOs are being hired.

C H AT E A U ROUBINE  Cru Classé

A vineyard rich inn History, CHATEAU ROUBINEE celebrates its 20 years of succeesss: a return to the land who wwitnessed the birth ooff the Mediterranean viticultuure.

With three cuvees “Cru Classé” from Côtes de Provence, 850,000 bottles commercialized annually worldwide and over three million Euros in sales (in constant progression for the last 20 years), Valérie ROUSSELLE successfully met her challenge: to transform, modernize and get the best of Château Roubine; an exceptional vineyard situated between Lorgues and Draguignan which she bought only 22 years ago. Its natural energy; its team of 30 innovative professionals and its important investments (over 10 million euros in more than 20 years to endow the winery with the latest innovative equipment) allowed Château Roubine to be known as the winery of excellence and innovation as well as a respected reference of the “Vins de Provence”.

Its three cuvees, “Inspire”, “Terre de Croix” and “Château Roubine” offer rosé (60% of the total production), red (30%) and white (10%) wine are elaborated in the purest respect of nature. These wines are found on the finest gastronomic tables and are exported all around the world. Further proofs of quality, the domain benefits, since 2008, of the Reasoned Agriculture Certification and has recently been awarded at the “Concours Général Agricole 2016. In order to pursue this path of success and after working in pure respect of the environment, soil and biodiversity (Reasonned Agriculture Certification since 2008 and work in biodynamic agriculture for the past 4 years), this year Château Roubine is officially converting the entire vineyard to Biological Agriculture; thus 90 hectares of vines home to 13 different grapes varieties. Moreover, in order to face the important demand and because the domain voluntarily chose to limit the yields and seeks for optimal grape maturity, Valérie Rousselle is launching her second wine “R” de Roubine”, in 2014, made from a meticulous selection of the best juices from the harvest. The three types of wine is available, in red, rosé and white, which bare a label with class and simplicity. Also, in 2015, Valérie Rousselle and her son, Adrien RIBOUD, imagined a festive and refined rosé to complete the range: La Vie en Rose. In its elegant bottle silkscreened of roses, with pearlescent pink color, this wine is the promise to glamorize and make your future moments unique.

Lastly, the owner of Château Roubine intends to pursue her achievements to make Roubine a high place in Provence’s wine tourism. After opening the “Mas des Candeliers” in 2009 (an old farmhouse converted into a guesthouse and reception hall) and the winemaker trail around and through the vineyard in 2011, the program of events in 2016 is already dense.

Amongst them, the creation, in June, of a botanical trail (2,8 km of trails to discover, around the vines, 10 different species of trees and 50 species of herbaceous plants) and in July, the 8th edition of “Voix en Vigne”, the Lyrical Art Festival created by Valérie Rousselle will happening on Wednesday the 30th of July with a epic program : Maria Callas « une vie, un destin ».

A Story always linked to Provence Already in Antiquity times, the Roman road alias ““““Julienne”””” ran through the current vineyard, giving it a strategic position. Known since the beginning of the XIVth century, Château Roubine was owned by the Knights Templar before being sold in 1307 to the Order of St. Jean de Jerusalem. In the XVth century Château Roubine becomes the prerogative and pride of various famous Provencal families. In 1789, the revolution caused fragmentation of the property. In the 1800s, Allaman domain belongs to the family who gave it in 1855 to Anne Leclerc de Juigne Lassigny. Through inheritance in 1923, Château Roubine back to Henri de Rohan Chabot who put it in tenant farm, to Ott family’s hands. In 1955 Château Roubine is recognized by decree as "Cru Classé" of Côtes de Provence. The Knights Templar coat of arms traces the history of the area: the dragon, emblem of Draguignan, and the Lion representing Lorgues: both placed under the protection of the Provence Sun.

A Love-at-first-sight’s Story It was in 1994 when Valerie Rousselle has the love at first sight for Château Roubine, moved by reminiscences of her childhood in the heart of Provence. "I was called by this area" like she remembered. For 20 years, she entirely devoted herself to the management of the vineyard, for which she has bring equipment at the cutting edge of technology. Strong skills and respect for local traditions ... with one goal: to aim at excellence!

A woman’s Story Born in Saint -Tropez in 1963, Valérie Rousselle is intended to the hotel industry. After the Lausanne Hotel School, she began a successful career in the Barrière Group at Deauville ... until she met, in 1994, Château Roubine. To improve her professional wine knowledge, she left six months at the University of Suzela-Rousse Wine where she obtained in 2008 its Certificate of Oenology and Viticulture. President of “Crus Classés” from 2005 to 2008, Vice-President of Wine and Business Club of Marseille, she is also behind the creation of Les Eléonores de Provence (association of women business owners who defend the art of living in Provence) which it holds the presidency, embodying this revolutionary form of femininity in the 21st century.

A professional’s Story Valérie Rousselle knows to surround herself with greatest skills as: Jean-Louis Francone, chief grower: « My work on the vineyard is to ensure the continued existence of the vine quality at all stages and to express by the best way the typical characteristics of the terroir ». Pierre Gerin, winemaker: « My primary role is to match traditional winemaking techniques with the latest advances in oenology to reveal great wines with character and boldness, aligned with the past ». Olivier Nasles, l’œnologist: Specialist, he operates throughout the wine making process, from the production of grapes to bottling with an enlightened eye. A total of 30 people are employed in Château Roubine, in cellars, vines and offices.

HUNTING

A GENTLEMAN’S SPORT – an explorer’s life

“When one walks in nature with a stick, one observes – when one walks with a gun, one engages.” – Kaj Munk

The lure of exploring the world through travel is a temptation difficult to resist. The thrill your senses feel when discovering new smells, sights and cultures for the first time is both an exhilarating and grounding rush. As the globally iterated belief, originally articulated by author Hans Christian Andersen, says: to travel is to live. Yes, indeed. But if to travel is to live, to hunt is to travel. Travel and hunting are inextricably paired. The sport itself demands venturing, exploring and moving through the world with heightened senses and a keen attention to environment. To hunt while travelling is to experience travel in a holistic and full form. A good hunter knows the peculiar privilege in engaging with new forms of nature and becoming acquainted with new people. To hunt, and to honour tradition, is to travel and to learn. This is no secret to Jan Nancke, co-founder of Nancke Jagtliv, a hunting shop tucked away in the charming area of Gentofte in Denmark. A seasoned hunter with more than 40 years experience hunting in over 20 countries, Jan holds great insight to travelling with the sport. To visit the shop and speak with him is to get a taste of the attraction of travel hunting and the nuances of hunting culture in different locations. “What you see when you’re a hunter or a huntress – you see all the things you don’t see as a tourist. You see the diverse places. You see places so beautiful, you can’t imagine. You see the local people and you eat their food. All because you go 25 kilometres into the mountains. No one else does that and it gives you a very remarkable experience. To learn the traditions and practices of different regions is fantastic – you would be surprised at how varied they are.”

HUNTING

As with cultures themselves, hunting in different areas of the world presents myriad customs, game and dressing styles for the adventurous soul to discover. A quick look at three different hunting grounds gives a glimpse at the depth and variance in hunting culture worldwide a curious shot may encounter in their travels.

The rite of hunting in Europe In continental Europe, many countries are big hunting destinations. Germany, Poland and Hungary often top the list but Spain, Romania and Lithuania also harbour a robust and interesting history. Hunting on the European continent introduces the hunter to a rich and strict tradition of rituals. One must give ‘communion’ to the land as a moral declaration of respect to nature and wildlife. This declaration is followed by numerous other customs during the hunt that are incredibly important to continental European hunting. At the end of the hunt, all downed game is placed on their right side in a square of branches. A twig is positioned in their mouth to signify their last meal. It is incumbent that hunters honour the deceased wildlife by facing them towards the forest they came from while blowing horns during this closing ceremony.

HUNTING

In this region, one will typically go on stalking or driven hunts for wild boar, Roebuck deer, Fallow deer and bears. In pursuing these animals one must not arrive late, one must abide by the rules and one must be impeccably dressed in a uniform like fashion. Clothing typically consists of a loden coat (a water-proof wool, typically greenish in colour), leather pants, and a hat. Nancke Jagtliv offers a premiere selection of brands such as Franken & Cie, Rey Pavon, Merkel and Waldkauz for any hunter interested in exploring the deep traditions of continental Europe.

Feelings of fraternity in the United Kingdom The traditions of the United Kingdom are as old as continental Europe but have an entirely different feel. Across the plains of England, the rolling hills of Ireland and the mountains of Scotland; the customs of hunting reside in a more social and light atmosphere - though it still has many rules. To hunt with the Anglo-Saxons is an ode to camaraderie and brotherhood. It is not uncommon to hear witty banter and sarcasm between hunters as they stalk the lands, remembering their ancestors and offering salutations of scotch and sloe gin to their memories all the while. While on a hunt in the UK, decorum is as much a part of the package as it is in the English culture itself. Tweed is in high demand as is the durable and practical material of wax cotton. The look is finished off with a hat, necktie and ribbons around the socks. It is imperative to look the part in England. For if you don’t, you may find yourself in the unfortunate position of being at the receiving end of numerous jokes from your fellow hunters - though it will be light-hearted. While hunting in the UK, Nancke recommends to look to brands such as Holland & Holland, Alan Paine, Wendy Keith and Croots as you search for the high flying pheasants, deer and that famously elusive grouse.

An ode to origin in Africa A completely different hunting experience altogether is to hunt on the continent of Africa. In the Serengeti or further south in the Kalahari desert, a hunter is met with completely new challenges and traditions. One of the strongest appeals of travelling in Africa on a

HUNTING

hunt is the genuine connection to the vast and beautiful landscape. It is where the elegance of hunting meets the dangerous conditions of pursuing large, prized game of antelopes, buffalo and lions. “You see a lot and you learn a lot. Because you are forced to go where the game is, to the remote areas. You have to be focused, you have to pay attention and you will be amazed at what you learn about nature, people and yourself,” remarks Nancke on the existential abilities of the African setting. A hunt in central or southern Africa is a classic safari with evidence of colonialism and British influence. Typically one hunter will have five to 10 people to service them by guiding the hunt, driving the vehicle, preparing food or keeping watch for animals around the tent camp at night. Strong bonds are formed as much time is spent together in the boundless expanse of the African savannah. The premier attire for hunting of this sort is light and breathable cotton with a hat for sun protection - ideal garb for keeping the body cool in extreme heat. Nancke stocks brands such as Els &Co., Mauser, Rugged Wear and Jensen Rifle Co. for exactly this climate and magnum calibre hunting needs.

Travelling to hunt, hunting to travel All across the globe, hunting provides an additional dimension to exploration. Travelling to hunt – or hunting to travel – gives the hunter or huntress the ability to broaden their horizons and commune with nature while sharpening their skill at the sport. Nancke’s advice to those interested in the activity comes down to a mind-set: “you’re more than a hunter. You’re also a traveller and an adventurer. Open your ears and open your eyes. Be open-minded and don’t judge. Learn from the local traditions.” Phenomenal experiences abound if you traverse the world with the mind and attitude of a hunter. The international community of like-minded outdoorsmen will welcome and educate you in fantastic ways. Before you venture off, be sure to pay Jan a visit at the Nancke Jagtliv shop in Gentofte for the answers to all your hunting needs; no matter the hunt, no matter the country.

At Bruun Rasmussen in Copenhagen, we have also witnessed this ongoing interest and at the most recent auction in December of 2016 the highlights included three of the most iconic Nordic furniture classics – Alvar Aalto’s “Paimio” chair, Finn Juhl’s “Chieftain” chair and Jonas Bohlin’s “Concrete” chair. A common trait for the furniture pieces is the simple Nordic idiom, but they also represent highly distinct interpretations of the Nordic design style from three seminal periods within the history of furniture.

The Best of the 1930s Alvar Aalto is without doubt Finland’s most famous architect and one of the greatest pioneers within organic modernism. Between 1924 and 1929, he conducted several experiments with the bending of laminated wood and moulded veneer, which helped revolutionize modern furniture design. One of his greatest achievements is the sculptural chair “Paimio”, which was designed in 1931-32 for the tuberculosis sanatorium in the city of Paimio in the southwest of Finland. The comfortable, functional design of the chair marked the beginning of a new era that put Nordic design on the world map with its simple, soft and very human idiom. The chair embodies the best of the 1930s and appears just as modern today as when it was first introduced.

”Mid-century Modern” The Danish designer Finn Juhl is influenced by the same design tradition as Aalto, and Juhl is world famous for his organic furniture, as well as for his design of, for instance, the trusteeship council chamber in the UN headquarters in New York, which today stands as an architectural masterpiece. Working with his long-time collaborator, cabinetmaker Niels Vodder, Juhl created some of the most distinctive and iconic furniture pieces in Danish design history, including the “Chieftain” chair. It is regarded as the flagship of Finn Juhl's furniture design and embodies "Mid-century Modern".

The Liberated Idiom of the 1980s In the late 1960s there was a shift in the Nordic architects’ understanding of design, and a leader in the new postmodern era was Jonas Bohlin. He was originally trained as a civil engineer, but made a name for himself as a furniture designer when he graduated in interior design from Konstfackskolan in Stockholm in 1981. Here he shocked the entire design world with his “Concrete” chair, which undoubtedly stands as one of the most iconic furniture pieces within the past 40 years in Scandinavia. The materials are steel and concrete, and the chair is certainly not comfortable to sit in. It functions more as a spatial installation and thereby distances itself from the requirement of functionality, which the art of furniture design has always been a subject to. This was a provoking design at the time, and the chair was therefore a starting point for an international discussion about the boundaries between art and applied art. At a first glance, Bohlin’s furniture stands in stark contrast to the organic idiom of earlier periods, but the design tradition’s simple expression is maintained, and in a statement on his approach to design he practically sums up the entire Nordic design tradition: "I want my furniture to make an impression and be pleasing, communicate with time and space. They must be created with hands and the heart and they must take into account both man and nature".

Nordic Design Auctions There are many other beautiful, unique furniture pieces to be discovered in the treasure trove of Nordic design, including furniture by Hans J. Wegner, Arne Jacobsen, Kaare Klint and Poul Kjærholm to name just a few. At Bruun Rasmussen we offer an online auction with furniture design every Tuesday evening, and four times a year we invite you to join us at our international auctions in Bredgade, Copenhagen, where we can present some of the finest examples of Nordic design.

MODERN ART

L   OUISIANA Museum of Modern Art

Only a handful of museums in the world have achieved the well-tempered interplay between architecture and nature that has been realized at Louisiana. And few have succeeded in combining great art with something resembling an everyday framework.

Unlike most of the large museums of this world Louisiana is not situated in the city centre, next to the theatre or the opera. It is the destination of an excursion.

SKOVSHOVED MAGAZINE | NO.2 | PAGE 84

MODERN ART

www.louisiana.dk

When you have arrived, you move through one gallery after the other, and if you keep going, you will finally have described a complete, architectural circle, around the museum’s wonderful, old park facing the coast of North Zealand. You will have had many glimpses of the park along the way, for this interplay between art and nature, is a principle at Louisiana. Open till 22:00 on weekdays, Louisiana is more than a museum. It is also a dynamic framework for concerts, lectures, conferences and encounters with artists.

The permanent exhibition The collection includes significant chapters in 20th century art history and, with its special emphasis on certain artists, offers great insight into the period. The art of Alberto Giacometti is one of the museum’s distinct fields of force as is the art of Alexander Calder whose sculptures have almost become a symbol of Louisiana, and Henry Moore who has contributed unmistakeably to the character of the park with its view of the Sound. Not to mention Picasso, Dubuffet, Warhol, Rauschenberg, Klein and many others.

The temporary exhibitions Louisiana offers a rich and internationally acclaimed exhibition programme, taking both a fresh look at 20th-century classics as well as new developments in contemporary art.

The interaction of the arts plays an important role at Louisiana, and major exhibitions are regularly devoted to design, photography and architecture.

A museum for all ages For children the great attraction is the Louisiana Children’s Wing with its adjacent Lake Garden and a wealth of activities. There is also something for the palate and for those who want to bring home a souvenir of their visit: The Louisiana Café has one of the most beautiful views in Denmark, and on its menu you can find everything from light refreshments to a complete cuisine, while the Louisiana Shop offers posters, prints, art books and designer products.

WATCHES

D R I V E for him and

HYPNOSE for her

Cartier stands for many people as a jewellery store in the upper class and it is also true. But their watches also has a space in the upper segment, not at least the models, that since 2010 has seen the light of the day. This is because Cartier has begun to produce their own works and this is in so great style, that more and more of the company's watches are using inhouseworks.

By Kristian Haagen

Drive De Cartier Cartier has maded an entirely new model for men. Drive de Cartier. According to Cartier himself, they have found inspiration for the form of the watch in older cars, for excample the round shapes from the icnic Porche 356. The lines from the Older cars comes among other things reflected in the curved sapphire glass "cushion-form" as well as a winding crown looks like a nut. Despite the comparatively generous diameter of 40 millimeter, has Cartier preserved a very limited height of 11.25 millimeter, and this despite the fact the inhousework, caliber 1904 MC, is automatically and thus pulled up through a crescent-shaped rotor, which is located behind the work. Both the work and the works rotor can be seen through the glass. Drive de Cartier is offered in steel and pink gold.

Cle' de Cartier Cle' de Cartier is offered for the first time entirely of steel. Altthough similar to the launch model from 2015 of whitegold. The steelversion has the same diameter 40 millimeter, and are using one of the newer inhouseworks from Cartier, caliber 1847 MC with date and automatically winding.. In addition to this news, is steel blue hour markers, matching the bluish markers absolutely perfect. Cle' de Cartier of steel is offered both with straf and with matching bracelet. The model is also avaiable in red and white gold, with a diameter of 31 and 35 millimeter, both of which the latter uses Cartier's inhousework, caliber 1847 MC. The two smaller models are also avaible with diamonds.

Hypnose Hypnose is a completely new ringe of watches to the female wrist. The watch has an oval shape and is inspired by Louis Cartier design, an oval watch in 1912, however it first entered prduction in 1956, and later was given the name Baignoire (bathtub). The difference between the Baignoire and the new Hypnose is that Hypnose does not have a curved shape. In addition, the design provides a unique way to put the diamonds and thereby make the watch double luxurios to look at. Hypnose is quartz powered and is offered in two sizes.

When it all

MAKES SENSE Charlotte Bircow NĂŚss-Schmidt is 55 years old and the women who brought the fitness idea to Denmark. She invented the first Fitness Gyms, the first fitness instructor educations, and introduced Spinning to the Nordic Countries. She has sold more than 1,5 million fitness videoes and written 7 books about mental and physical health.

Therefore it is no exaggeration that Charlotte has helped to make exercise and training a part of our everyday lives. But even though the popular speaker and lifestyle coach broke through with the slogan "Buttocks of Steel", her focus for more than 25 years has always been on the health scene, creating health and well-being - physically and mentally. Today we also know her as the vulnerable but strong woman that in an exemplary manner has overcome her cancer and shared her fight and her positive outcome with everybody in Denmark. When Charlotte was diagnosed with "Breast cancer", she felt strong and healthy, although she had been feeling the knot in her breast for a long time. The metastases had also spread to the lymph, so both chemo and radiation was inevitable. When diagnosed cured after 8 months treatment, she found it difficult to feel fit and healthy, because she never had felt sick – only because of the medical treatment. "I needed to feel strong and healthy again, and therefore decided that if I could finish the world's toughest Ironman, 3.8 km swim in the sea, 180 km cycling in the mountains of stiff headwind and then 42, 2 km marathon in the wind and heat, then I knew that my organs would be ok.

After six month of training I found myself competing in Lanzarote Ironman and reached the finishline - 21 minutes to late, but I was out exercising for 17 hours and 21 min, so I knew that I could now again feel strong and healthy in my body. Since the first Ironman, I have made it to the finishline in both Lanzarote Ironman and Copenhagen Ironman once again. When I got to the finishline at the first Ironman, I had blood blisters under my feet when I was trying to run, and the cream that I used for Biking was really not working for me. Suddenly it struck me that I had after all been through a cancer treatment, so maybe I should start to investigate the ingredients in the chamois creams that I used for biking. This was the beginning of “Active by Charlotte - the world's first line of skincare - for all of us who love to exercise, and want to take good care of ourselves. Without parabens, perfume, colorants, etc. Declared in cooperation with Asthma - Allergy Denmark and Ecocertified Active by Charlotte was launched on July 1, 2016. The first 4 performance products are now on the shelves in 130 Matas shops, Matas.dk, in the biggest bike / tri / running shops and on www.activebycharlotte.com "I have always believed that the meaning of me being hit by cancer, was that I should help others through their treatment or help them in their last goodbyes, and that I have done for several years, as well as I have been working as an Ambassador for the Danish Cancer Society collecting millions of danish kr. for research and treatment. I had never thought that my cancer would also led me to the world's first healthy line of skincare for all of us who love to exercise, and want to take good care of ourselves".

POTTERY

A

At Travbanevej the air is filled with the smell of

GLASS AND POTS fresh from the kiln The light plays on the glass, glazes and colours of the large urns in front of the wooden house on the old stand at Charlottenlund race course. This is where glass blower Anders Raad and potter Christian Bruun fashion glass and clay in their workshop overlooking the forest on one side and race horse paddocks on the other.

SKOVSHOVED MAGAZINE | NO.2 | PAGE 96

POTTERY

Christian Bruun, potter "I work in a classic and traditional style but I like to experiment. For me, the most important thing is the relationship you have with the objects. I work with the idea of 'holding it in your hands'. 'Hold in your hands' one of my cups. It has to feel good in your hands and take on emotional value so that the cup becomes your first choice when you open the cupboard. Although pottery is something physical, on a higher plane it is about a relationship – the relationship you establish with the objects you use in your daily life."

Text: Lisbeth Brahe Just a stone's throw away from the boutiques of Jægersborg Allé, at the edge of the forest at Travbanevej 12, is a remarkable oasis of creativity that contrasts with the gleaming perfection of the nearby shopping street. This is the site of a professional pottery and glass-making workshop and outlet, where you can appreciate good craftsmanship, the difference in the detail and the unexpected in the moment shared by the craftsman and his material. Travbanevej may well conjure up equestrian images, but it is not the smell of horses that greets you when you open the door. The 200 m2, light-filled building with 5-metre high ceilings and exposed wooden beams smells of baked clay, hot glass and craftsmen busy at their trade. The building originally housed race course facilities and was used as a garage until 18 years ago, when glass blower Anders Raad set up shop and established his glass workshop. He was joined 3½ years ago by potter Christian Bruun. Today the two artisans work side by side, each in their own section of the workshop, and it is here that they exhibit and sell their glassware, stoneware urns and unique ceramic artefacts. They also offer the public a hands-on experience, which anyone is welcome to try. But we'll come to that later.

A free space The doors of the workshop are always open, as long as one of them is there. Curious passers-by can pop in to watch the production process, enjoy the exhibits or maybe purchase a gift. "We get visits from all sorts of people, and all of them are curious about our work. I think many are intrigued about how raw materials are turned into a finished product. Today it's rare for people to work with their hands. Most of the things we buy are manufactured in a faraway country, but at our workshop we take the raw materials, shape and craft them into objects, and the finished products are never identical," says Christian Bruun. Not far from the workshop is a completely different world of high-end property, prestige cars and fast-paced living. A world in which there can be pressure for everything to be perfect. This trend is precisely what Anders Raad and Christian want to resist. They want their workshop to be a free space – a place where it is possible to just be and to take life's imperfections in your stride. "At times we all feel burdened by the pressure of wanting to be perfect. It's a warning sign telling you to jump off the treadmill before something goes wrong. We live in a world where perfect is the new normal and that can be a dangerous thing. With all the objects I make, their quality partly lies in the small variations that make them imperfect. Here at the workshop we want to create a space in which you can relax and, by seeing our work, appreciate the fact that small nuances are actually very appealing," explains Christian Bruun.

Coming together to create At their workshop, Anders Raad and Christian Bruun are not the only ones sitting at the potter's wheel or wielding the glassblowing pipe. You can come here as a group of 15 to 20 – work colleagues, friends or a family birthday – and try your hand at producing glassware or pots.

Christian Bruun explains: "Our spacious and light workshop is a wonderful setting for an enjoyable, creative and alternative shared experience – a type of team-building if you like. We help with the organisation, of course, and offer guidance. And we are also happy to put a joint of lamb in the oven and let it roast while our visitors are busy at work. Afterwards we sit down together and enjoy a meal. We have seen how lots of people start to unwind once they have got to grips with the creative process and start chatting to each other about all kinds of things. Many start developing ideas for the projects they are busy with at their workplace, while Anders and Christian, each of whom have many years' teaching experience at the Kunstakademiets Designskole (Royal Danish Academy of Design), are at hand to provide assistance and guidance. This free space encourages people to have conversations they might not have had the courage to initiate at the office – almost as if it is easier to talk when you have your hands full of wet clay rather than sitting across from each other at a desk or conference table." Of course, after a day at the workshop you take your creation home as a memento of your shared experience. And if it has a few flaws, then it's pretty much mission accomplished. Essentially, imperfection is perfection. The workshop is open from Tuesday to Friday from 12 pm to 5 pm, but visitors are always welcome inside if someone is in the workshop. Anders Raad, glass designer "It's exciting and challenging working with glass as a craftsman. You don't have much time to play with, as the glass has to be at exactly the right temperature. When I work I decide at the beginning what form I want to make, for example a bowl or a wine glass, but when the process starts, I let the glass partly determine what creative expression I end up with. Sometimes the result may be asymmetric or perhaps colourful, but all choices result in something. I love the speed of the process. I think it's fun having groups visiting the workshop, and it is enriching to see how they cope with a different type of challenge: they can feel rather cautious, but they end up creating their very own work of art."

The way that you live and work is more flexible and fluid than ever, and we adapt and cater to that. BeoSound 1 and BeoSound 2 are Bang & Olufsen’s answer to an ever-changing everyday life; they are both ultra flexible in terms of usability, connectivity and placement options - and they deliver an unparalleled 360-degree sound experience no matter where the speakers or you are placed. “We live in a time of cord cutting where everyone wants more freedom. The conic bodies hover slightly above the ground, letting the thumps of the bass units out beneath. They are slightly open at the top for acoustical reasons, but apart from that with a uniform expression on the aluminium surface. BeoSound 1 is a portable lightweight wireless speaker with a battery-driven option crafted for mobility. It has a small groove under the top to ensure a better grip when it’s lifted up and moved around. BeoSound 2 is its slightly bigger and more powerful sibling. It needs a permanent power connection to produce its vigorous output of excellent sound with great clarity and distinction.

360 degrees of advanced acoustics BeoSound 1 and 2 are equipped with the Acoustic Lens Technology renowned from classic Bang & Olufsen speakers such as BeoLab 5 and BeoLab 18. The acoustic driver is placed in the top of the speakers, playing into a reflector that creates a spherical and powerful 360-degree sound experience.

Direct streaming of music Multiple connectivity options such as Google Cast, AirPlay, DNLA and Bluetooth offer easy access from mobile devices and music apps. BeoSound 1 and 2 also provide integrated access to TuneIn Internet radio stations as well as Spotify and Deezer music services to allow streaming of music without using a smartphone or tablet.

Intuitive sensor technology BeoSound 1 and 2 introduce a magical experience using proximity sensors that enable control of the basic operations on the speaker intuitively. As the sensor detects your presence, it is ready for commands with the user interface turned towards the user. Turn the wheel to adjust the volume, and simply swipe and tap on the top for other commands.

Music across the home BeoSound 1 and 2 are the newest members of the Bang & Olufsen BeoLink Multiroom portfolio that connects your Bang & Olufsen products into one wireless music system across the home. Connect up to 8 BeoSound 1 and BeoSound 2 in a multiroom set-up.
