The site is located in front of Patricia’s green and is a very populated area during the day. Patricia’s green creates a big opening in the area, allowing for openness. The designed building has a central courtyard for the residents. Patricia’s green will act as their public space and the courtyard will act as a more private outdoor area. The community spaces will include study/work spaces, a small gym, and a party room for residents to use to host guests. In an urban space such as San Francisco, space is limited. Therefore, micro units where implemented for maximum efficiency. The units are very small and are designed for one person to live. Small spaces may be suffocating and not the ideal place to live. To compensate for the small square footage, the community spaces and the central courtyard was designed. The east side of the building faces the neighboring building and is not the ideal side for designing housing units. Instead, the public spaces were provided and allows for the sun to light up the building on the lower levels as well.

PA R T N E R P R O J E C T | C A M P U S M A S T E R P L A N N I N G | R I N A F U J I TA + L E E A N N S C H M U T Z Stockton is rich in agriculture and dairy. Some of the main crops from Stockton currently include asparagus, cherries, tomatoes, walnuts, and almonds. By designing a urban agriculture building, Stockton can introduce systems for sustainable agriculture. Since Stockton is already strong in agriculture, Stockton can lead California to become more sustainable in agriculture. In this way, Stockton can also be recognized in a wider view and a wider population in California. The future occupants of this building will be both directly from the university as well as the surrounding community. Current high school students will potentially become the agriculture students who walk the halls of this building every day. The student body will use this building to take classes and perform research relating to the future of agriculture. They will actively participate in the cultivation of produce to be sold and donated back to the university and the surrounding community of Stockton. The general public will have access to the building as well to acquire fresh produce, dine at the café, and connect with the students and one another.
