Editor’s Note/ Nota del Editor: Me complace presentar la cuarta edición de nuestra revista nueva. Sus comentarios positivos nos ha alentado nuestros esfuerzos continuos con más motivación. Irma L. Dorr tomó el retrato y su arte, “Surf Sticker Montage” y escribió su artículo acompañante. John Grady escribió el artículo sobre los surfistas yendo norte para surfear en verano, desde Rincón a Jobos y las paradas en camino, cubriendo la información más reciente de los lugares nuevos e importantes. The Rincón Alliance Of Leaders is a nonprofit community organization founded in 2009 by Irma Bartolomey and her husband, Juan Luis Vargas, their mission is to train those in disadvantaged circumstances. They empower them with the skills for which to overcome and sustain through a series of classes given by qualified volunteers at their multimedia service center, from computer literacy, to filling out government forms online. No puedes evitar hacer una toma doble cuando veas el nuevo y mejorado Cuartel de Policia Estatal de Rincón. Necesitaba una remodelación mayor y la persona adecuada vino para hacer el trabajo. El Capitán Cintron, el Capitán nuevo de la Policia, era la persona adecuada, tenía la visión y conducción necesaria para llevar a cabo este proyecto arduo. Capitán Cintron, es personable, algo que normalnente no se asocia con alguien de su rango. Él realmente se preocupa por nuestro pueblo y su seguridad. Todos podemos dormir mejor sabiendo que él y sus compañeros oficiales están haciendo su trabajo. Están orgullosos de servir y nosotros estamos orgullosos de que lo hagan. Abajo hay una lista de los cambios realizados. Los otros cambios obvios son visibles en las calles. La dosis balanceada que provee el Capitán Cintron de leyes enforzadas a la vez que levanta la moral, les da a sus oficiales la iniciativa adicional para ajustar sus cinturones. Verás todo esto cuando haces una toma doble.
1. EN EL EXTERIOR: Todas las luces, incluyendo a los postes y las lámparas ( antes no habían ) fueron puestos, hubo cambios hechos en el estacionamiento y rampa de incapacitados, un generador fue comprado, un letrero identificando fue puesto en el balcón del segundo piso; toda la estructura fue pintada.
2. EN EL INTERIOR: ÁREAS PÚBLICAS: EL BAÑO Y LAS PAREDES EN EL PASILLO Y RECEPCIÓN: Todo fue pintado. Pusieron lavamanos de acero inoxidable y inodoros nuevos en los baños.
3. EN LAS OFICINAS: EN EL CUARTO DE REPORTE : Computadoras fueron instaladas y cajones para reportes entrando y saliendo fueron añadidas para facilitar el procesamiento y la documentación de los mismos. Líneas telefónicas fueron añadidas a todas las oficinas.
4. EN LA CELDA: Todas las paredes fueron pintadas e installaron lavamanos e inodoros nuevos de acero inoxidable.

You can't help but do a double take when you see the new and improved Rincรณn Police Station (Cuartel) . It needed a major overhaul and the right person came along to get the job done. Captain Carlos Cintron, the new Police Captain, was the person who had the vision and drive necessary to follow up on the details and priorities needed to bring this arduous project to fruition. Captain Cintron is personable, something one might not associate with an officer of his rank. He truly cares about our town and its safety. We can all sleep a little better knowing that he and his fellow officers are getting the job done. They are proud to serve and we are proud they do. Below is the list of changes mentioned. The other obvious changes are visible on the streets. Captain Cintron's balanced dose of persistent law enforcement while boosting morale, gives his officers the extra initiative to buckle down. You will see all of this when you do a double take.
1. ON THE EXTERIOR : All of the lights, including fixtures and posts ( before there weren't any) were set up, there were changes made to the handicapped parking and ramp, a generator was purchased, an identifying sign was hung on the second story balcony, all of the structure outside was painted .
2. ON THE INTERIOR: PUBLIC AREAS: THE BATHROOM AND WALLS IN THE HALLWAY AND RECEPTION: All was painted. There were new stainless steel sinks and toilets installed in the bathrooms.
3. IN THE OFFICES: In the Report Room computers were installed and in and out boxes were placed to facilitate report processing and documentation. Phone lines were made available in every office.
4. IN THE CELL: All of the walls were painted and new stainless steel sinks and toilets were installed.

Amor a Primera Vista... Por: Gladys Negrón sa fue mi reacción cuando llegué a Rincón hace mas de 20 años atrás. Sus atardeceres bellos, las playas de arenas doradas y agua turquesa, su cielo indigo, el verde de las palmeras, el color intenso de sus amapolas y flamboyanes crean un paraíso. Su gente amable y su sencillez hospitalaria, crea un ambiente donde los visitantes quieren quedarse y muchos, como yo, lo hace. na mezcla de cultura puertorriqueña y americana hace de Rincón un pueblo diferente que atrae a amantes de la naturaleza, no solamente de la Isla, sino a personas de todo el mundo, que disfrutan del encanto de Rincón. or años se le ha llamado ”El secreto mejor guardado de Puerto Rico”. Hoy día ese secreto esta siendo descubierto por personas que huyen de los efectos negativos de la vida ciudadina. Son atraídos por la belleza natural y la paz que se respira, no cabe duda, Rincón es diferente. Durante los años que he vivido aquí, he visto su desarrollo constante y progresivo. Los negocios orientados hacia el turismo aumentan cada día. n los últimos meses estos negocios abrieron sus puertas; ‘Sana Farm To Table Restaurante' con todos sus ingredientes cultivados localmente por sus dueños. ‘ Tinto Wine Shop ‘, ‘ K-Fe Luna ‘ ‘ Roots Restaurante ‘ con comida de Mar y Tierra, ‘Gylro's', Restaurante Griego con comida Mediterránea , y “Bajo Cero’ Ice Cream Parlor, son ejemplos. Es bueno ver los negocios locales progresar. Después de la tormenta, siempre llega la calma.

Love at First Sight... By: Gladys Negrón hat's what I felt when I arrived in this town more than 20 years ago. Its beautiful sunsets, the beaches of golden sand and turquoise sea, its indigo skies , the green of the palm trees and the intense color of the poppies and flamboyans combine to create a breathtaking paradise. Its friendly and humbly hospitable people, create an atmosphere where visitors want to stay and a lot of them, like me, do. mixture of Puerto Rican and American culture make Rincon a different place that attracts nature lovers, not only from the island, but from all over the world who enjoy Rincon's enchantment. or years Rincón has been called one of the best kept secrets of Puerto Rico. Today the secret is being discovered by those who flee the negative effects of city life. They are drawn by its natural beauty, and the peace it inspires, without a doubt Rincón is different. In the years that I have lived here I have seen Rincón’s constant development and progress. Businesses related to tourism are on a steady incline. ust in the last months these businesses opened their doors; ‘Sana Farm To Table Restaurant' where all of their ingredientes are grown locally by their owners, ‘Tinto Wine Shop', ‘K-Fe Luna', ‘Roots Restaurant' surf and turf, ‘Gylro's' Greek Restaurant, with Mediterranean food, and ‘Bajo Cero', ice cream parlor, are examples. It's good to see local businesses thrive. After a storm comes a calm.

SURF STICKER MONTAGE

urf Zone' en Aguadilla es la última parada antes de llegar a Surfer's Beach, y la primera parada para los surfistas y no surfistas por igual. En la entrada vislumbré lo que estaba por venir, retrocedí y detuve, pasando el aperitivo yendo directamente al plato principal. La tabla de surfear clásica colgando allí exclamó creatividad y significado. Cada superficie visible conocida está pintada de calcomanías de surf, viejas y nuevas, transformándola en una pieza de conversación llena de colores y formas vibrantes. Al mirarla más de cerca, se convirtió en algo más que su contorno sugiere, ya no era una tabla de surf – en su tercera transformación se convirtió en una obra de arte necesitando un título. Cada ángulo era una oportunidad de retratar donde colores mezclaba y contrastaba, círculos salpicaba cuadrados en olas de luz y sombra. Viré y retrocedí veces indeterminadas, esperando interpretar su abstracto brillante en prosa, a guardar mi cámara y traducir lo visual en textual. Mi mente estructuró los párrafos de su riqueza literal y figurativa simultánea, un intercambio mutuo que no pude esperar compartir con ustedes.

urf Zone' in Aguadilla is the last stop before Surfer's Beach, and usually the first stop for surfers and non-surfers alike. At the entrance I got a glimpse of what was to come, I backed up and stopped, skipping the appetizer and going directly to the entrée. The classic surfboard hanging there exclaimed creativity and significance! Every known visible surface is painted with surfing stickers old and new, transforming it into a conversation piece filled with vibrant colors and shapes. At closer view it became more than its outline suggests, it wasn't a surfboard anymore - in its third transformation it morphed into a work of art needing a title. Every angle was a photo op where colors blended and contrasted, circles splashed onto squares in waves of light and shade. I turned and twisted indeterminate times, hoping to interpret its brilliant abstract into prose, to put down my camera to translate the visual into textual. My mind laid out the paragraphs from its simultaneous literal and figurative wealth, an even mutual exchange that I couldn't wait to share with you.

s difícil creer que las aguas veraniegas, plácidas como lago, de la playa de Steps, con snorkeleadores curiosos flotando, explorando el arrecife, es el mismo lugar donde corrieron olas gigantescas que rompieron récord el último invierno. El verano es el tiempo llano en Rincón, entonces, los surfistas buscando olas simplemente viajan a la costa norte donde todavía hay olas rodando en sets debido a que las olas giran hacia el este. Aquí ‘Rincón-Surf-Art' les presenta una guía rápida de lo que puedan encontrar en camino hacia el norte, comenzando cerca del aeropuerto de BQN. e Rincón,Surf Zone, la tienda de surf, es la primera parada antes de chequear la playa cercana de Surfers Beach. Continuando hacia la playa famosa de Jobos, encontrará la fábrica de tablas de surfear, Pelícano, la tienda de surf, Hang Loose, la tienda WRV, y la tienda nueva de surf, Moku, que tiene un gran surtido de ropa Hawaiiana auténtica más equipo de surf para hombres y mujeres por igual. Tienen alquiler de tablas de surf justa a la puerta, en la playa Jobos, con la conveniencia añadida de duchas para enjuagar la sal, pero no antes de tomar una cerveza fría mientras mira la puesta del sol. t's hard to believe this summer's lake-like, placid waters off Steps Beach, with floating, curious snorkelers exploring the reef, is the same place where record- breaking giant waves were ridden last winter. Summer is Rincon's flat time. So, surfers seeking waves simply travel to the North Shore where the waves turn a little more easterly and there are still some sets rolling in. Here is Rincon Surf Art's quick guide to what can be found on your way northbound, starting near the BQN airport. urf Zone surf shop is the first stop from Rincón before checking nearby Surfers Beach. Continuing to famous Jobos beach you can find the Pelicano Surfboard factory, the Hang Loose Surf Shop, the WRV shop, and the new Moku Surf shop which has a great assortment of authentic Hawaiian clothes and varied surf gear for men and women alike. They have surfboard rentals right out their door, at Jobos beach with the added convenience of showers to rinse off the salt before heading home, but not before a cold beer while watching the sun set. -Aviones / Jobosl 28 de abril fue la segunda parada del Hawaiian Tropic Girls Surfing Circuit en la Playa Aviones, en Piñones. Este evento fomenta el crecimiento de Surfing Femenino en Puerto Rico. Las olas estuvieron buenísimas y de comienzo al final hubo mucha emoción. En uno de los primeros heats se enfrentaron cuatro de las Avioneras; Jolari, Joan, Kenia y Yezmín. Ellas surfean Aviones frecuentemente y conocen muy bien sus olas. a tercera y última parada del circuito fue en Jobos en Isabela, el sábado 19 de mayo. Había mucha gente presente con el mismo entusiasmo compartido, apoyando el evento. El escenario fue ideal con olas espectaculares. Abajo están los resultados de los dos eventos. Felicitamos a todas las que compitieron y esperamos verlas en acción en el próximo circuito en 2019 y de nuevo, les presentaremos los eventos y resultados de primera mano. uchas gracias al JC Group por organizar este evento tan importante, solamente para ellas. También damos gracias al público, no solamente los que estuvieron presentes, sino también a nuestros lectores por siempre apoyar a las mujeres surfistas y al deporte en si, incluyendo a los hombres.

pril 28th was the second stop of the Hawaiian Tropic Girls Surfing Circuit at Aviones Beach in Piñones. This event encourages the growth of Women's Surfing in Puerto Rico. The waves were great and from beginning to end and there was a lot of excitement. In one of the first heats there were four ‘Avioneras'; Jolari, Joan, Kenia and Yezmín, who surf Aviones frequently and know its waves very well. he third and last stop was at Jobos in Isabela, on Saturday May 19th. There were a lot of people present with the same shared enthusiasm, supporting the event. The scenario was ideal with spectacular waves. Below are the results from both events. We congratulate all of those who competed and hope to see them in action on the on the next circuit in 2019 where we will again present the events and results firsthand. big thank you to the JC Group for organizing this important event, only for girls. We also thank the public, not only the ones who were present, but our readers as well, for supporting women surfers, and Surfing itself, including the men.

arte de la belleza de un tesoro es su historia. ‘La Marietta’, es un tesoro de tabla hecha en Puerto Rico en 1970. Se pudo haber perdido innumerables veces, pero gracias a Marietta Estrada, mi madre adorada, que navegó las olas del tiempo, la tabla llegó a mis manos. Ella la cuidó por muchos años con amor, sabiendo que era un tesoro que se debía preservar. Originalmente fue comprada en El Condado para exhibirse en la tienda ‘Suzette’ en el Viejo San Juan. Ahora va a estar en exhibición pública en el Museo De Surf en Rincón. Gracias a Marietta por sus esfuerzos y a Juanky De Jesús y a Monty Smith por hacer llegar esta tabla clásica a un lugar especial junto con los demás artefactos de surf. Esto demuestra que la vida está llena de tesoros, en especial la de la familia. La próxima vez que vayas al agua, dedícale una ola a Marietta.

art of the beauty of a treasure has to do with its history. ‘La Marietta’ is a treasure of a board made in Puerto Rico in 1970. It could have been lost countless times, but thanks to Marietta Estrada, my adored mother, who navigated the waves of time, the board came into my hands. She took care of it with love, knowing that it was a treasure that had to be preserved. It was originally bought in El Condado for display at the ‘Suzette' store in Viejo San Juan. Now it will be on public display at The Rincón Surf Museum. Thank you to Marietta for her efforts and to Juanky De Jesús and to Monty Smith for getting this original ‘Island’ surfboard to its special place among the other surfing artifacts. This shows you that life is full of treasures, especially those of family. So next time you hit the water, dedicate a wave to Marietta.

Andaba buscando unos artículos y me recomendaron esta tienda que está en la Carr. 115 Km 12.3, cerca del supermercado en Rincón. Al llegar, me llamó la atención unas telas muy coloridas y divertidas que se movían con el viento en una carpa aledaña. La curiosidad me invadió y decido acercarme. ¡Veo esta lámpara preciosa, unas sandalias diferentes, unas pulseras llamativas, blusas brillosas, faldas espectaculares y unas carteras que me dejaron con la boca abierta! Para mi sorpresa, encontré un pedacito de India en Rincón. ¡Me encantan las nuevas tendencias, colores y frescura! Eso es Calira The Indian Store (facebook e instagram), una nueva forma de estar a la moda, vestirse bien y hacer que todas las mujeres tengan un impacto y dejar algo de lo que hablar a donde sea que vayan.
I was looking for a few things and they recommended this store on Hwy.115 km. 12.3, close to the supermarket in Rincón. Once I got there some very colorful and fun material caught my eye, that blew in the wind in a surrounding tent. Curiosity moved me and I decided to get close. I see this beautiful lamp; some different sandals, some very eye - catching bracelets, shiny blouses, spectacular skirts, and purses that left me with my mouth hanging open. To my surprise I found a little piece of India in Rincón. I love the new trends, colors and freshness. This is Calira , The Indian Store ( Facebook and Instagram ), a new way of being fashionable , to dress well and make all women have an impact and give people something to talk about wherever they go. Dare to live a different adventure!
