New: Introduction to NFTs for Artists

Course #BU102 Thomas Winchester

Ringling College Museum Campus - or - Studio + Digital Arts Online Select Your Preferred Location In Registration Wednesdays: 6:30-9 pm; 6 Sessions: Oct. 13-Nov. 17 NFTs (Non-fungible tokens) have revolutionized the art world and shaken some of its fundamental principles to its core. NFTs give artists economic opportunities that the traditional art world has neglected to offer. Certain aspects of NFTs, for example that the artist earns a percentage—a cut—of all subsequent sales of the artwork, help to allow artists to have control of their own destinies. But because it is a system that is completely digital, relies on volatile cryptocurrencies, and is currently flooded with things that barely even look like art make it a very opaque, risky endeavor. This course will provide an introduction to the systems of cryptocurrencies, NFTs exchanges, and will go through the entire process of minting an NFT. Students can also invest in minting an NFT during the course, which can cost anywhere between $75 and $150 in fees to thirdparties, but this additional investment is not required. If you’d like, simply listen, follow along, and get a taste of the revolution. Tuition: $175

In this exploration through art history, we will journey across millennia to consider how visual art today evolved to embrace abstraction and why. In this series of lectures and hands-on art exercises, students will develop a true first-hand understanding of how and why artists broke the rules, and why artists today continue to push the margins of creativity, imagination, and materials. Always seeking new ways of expression, artists pioneer new ideas. All skill levels are welcome. All supplies are provided. This class requires no art experience. It is a fun class designed to bring a smile to the “aha moments.” Join us. Tuition: $115
