I ntroductory
In twentieth century, people start to use resin, a huge amount of plastics are made for our daily life. Improvements in chemicals decrease the production cost but proliferate the durability as well. Flash back to nearly one century, may we start again : This is an experimental record of Rosin, a reboot from the beginning of material.
Nowadays, resources are aggressively consumed, we regard material as a foundation of an object. It plays a pivotal role in not only gently slowing down the vicious present tense but also opening a new era. Trace back to the root, we tend to dig out more possibilities in the use of source material. Natural resin is one of the most popular raw material we use for decades, the potential is attractive enough for us to take a closer look of it. This is our starting line, the birth of numerous imaginations and ideas.
From a perspective of earth resident, we strike a balance between appearance and function base on existing resources. Rosin resin displays a versatile forms and contour during the working procedure, it proves a distinguishing feature as an external fact of an object. Rosin resin acquired advantages through advanced experiment, it brings higher performance in functionality to life as an internal fact of an object.
Rosin has marvelous color and luster like an amber but more ubiquitous in our life. We present different phases of rosin in terms of daily product application through trials over and over again. Raw material transform into multiple shapes and forms via unique process with delicate arrangement. Converting the primitive feature of material and establish a new stage for it.

Rosin from the Pine tree
Rosin, which is extracted from the pine tree, is widely used as source material with the features of electric insulation˴antislip˴high transparency and fragile at the same time. Maybe some of you acknowledge Rosin as a violin partner, with its high friction feature, Rosin are used as maintainence to make the string of violin bow maintain its sound quality. At the same time, the friction that we mentioned also caused a sticky gluelike texture in Rosin. Despite the fact that liquified Rosin is hard to be molded into shapes, it still has the potential in versatile phases and beautiful luster. We planned to strengthen the material structure by blending ingredients together.
the Experiment
Within three months, we have tried over forty kinds of natural and artificial ingredients working through the trial to explore the accessibility and possibility of composition via physical transformation. Finally, in order to increase the density and toughness, we added amber wax and soap base separately. From the testing trial we have made, there are three of them which are more stable than others. Which are Gelatin, Amber wax, and Soap base. In order to test further possibility, we mix amber wax and soap base together. With the advantage of durability and tenacity, different proportion mixtures are set up to experiment. Finally, we have the result of 1 : 2 : 50, which is soap base / amber wax / Rosin.

Phase One : Solid Form
After Rosin being optimized, the further structure testing with larger mass can be started. We use wood mold base to finish the process. One of the benefit is convienient, we can easily built up a wood mold with our handcraft skill and material. The other benefit is that by slowing down the dropping rate of temperature, we can strengthen the liquid Rosin at the same time. This side table perfectly presents the rosin's outstanding performance of adhesion. The brass stool stuck into the Rosin without component parts, you can even sit on it like a chair without a doubt.

Considering the durability of enhanced Rosin, we then started making small size houseware decoration objects. A material like Rosin having the strength of clear luster and beautiful color, it is crucial that we keep the aesthetic in a specific way. With the success of Phase one mass casting process, we challenged ourselves with a diverse formality. The result turns out incredibly eye-catching, this material works well with glass and different metals. The reflection of Rosin creates an elegant optical ripples. This application of Rosin shows the potential of being a part of home decoration.

We chose to filling module unit first and shaped into specific form later due to the difficulty of molding problem with liquified Rosin. The transparency and color of finished object are controlled by the thickness and the time duration of the heated process. We arranged several action and procedure for every object in this section, such as heatgun shaping ˴ hot-tube pressing ˴ ice-cold crackling ˴unitshape dropping and low-temperature molding. Rosin brings the possibility into full play via temperature controlled with processing facility.
