The origins of oud Oud is valued highly in major cultures including Japan, India and China and even in the Church of England for its distinctively rich fragrance. Unlike frankincense and other perfumes, the sophisticated scent of pure oud lingers all day long. Oud is a type of pure incense and an important part of Arabian culture throughout the Middle and Far East, where for centuries Arabs have worn it as a perfume. They believe it to be the ďŹ rst perfume found on Earth.
Native to the evergreen rainforests of South East Asia, the agar or aquilaria tree is allowed to mature for up to several hundred years before its exquisite aromatic oil is distilled from a pure dark resin that forms where the trunk has been infected by a fungus. The solid form of oud is a small fragrant piece of dark wood that releases its unique scent once gently heated. In liquid form it is a precious oil with a deep woody aroma that releases slowly for up to eight hours. The word perfume derives from the Latin per fumus meaning ‘through smoke’. Perfumery, or the art of making perfume, began in ancient Mesopotamia and Egypt and was further refined by the Romans and Persians.

The founder Sheikh Abdul-Aziz Al Jasser opened his first fragrance boutique in the old Alzal souk of Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, in 1982. In his quest for perfection, he travelled the globe seeking the finest essential oils and flowers. His mastery in sourcing and blending attracted a clientele from across the country and soon after, the world. This vast increase in demand combined with Abdul-Aziz’s loyalty to his customers went onto establish Arabian Oud as one of the most trusted names in its industry.
