Welcome to this special edition of Rip’n Snap, which normally is a surf related e-mag, but when a
special triathlon event like the Challenge Copenhagen comes to town, I simply had to check it out. Since I never tried to shoot such an event before, I had to change my photographic approach completely from the surf scene, which normally is quite far away from where I am located as a photographer, so it was a new and very different challenge for me a well. I got in contact with Brian Martin who is responsible for the press at the Challenge Copenhagen event. He kindly supplied me with a press card which made it possible for me to really “get behind the curtains” of this unique world of extreme athletes. It became a fantastic experience for me and I must say that after spending a whole day following these “iron men and women” my respect has grown to a level beyond everything I ever experienced before. What these athletes go through just to be able to complete a Triathlon event like this one, is absolutely amazing and shows a very unique mental and physical strength, which of course has my deepest respect. In this special edition of Rip’n Snap I have therefore tried to create a “photo journey” by showing a lot of small “glimpse of moments” as I experienced them through out the whole day. Moments of concentration, expectations, pain, happiness, despair and of course pure joy. I hope you will enjoy this “photo journey” as much as I enjoyed making it...... M. Wengler. Rip’n Snap
