I couldn’t have asked for a better end to my tenure as the Multicultural and International Student Affairs Assistant for SAO than occurred this past Monday for Cinco de Mayo. We had a wonderful turn-out, with a sidesplitting peppereating contest, that reminded me why I so enjoyed this job in the first place. This past semester was a blast with MLK week being a wonderful success that helped spur on the semester. Women’s History Month had my favorite event of the semester which was That Takes Ovaries, where
atmosphere and events present not only on the Ripon College campus, but around the United States and the world.

many students told not only the stories of others, but were courageous enough to share their own personal struggles. It was a very powerful event that truly opened my and others’ eyes to the struggles of women. The exceptional thing was the amount of men that showed up for That Takes Ovaries and it truly refreshed me as it sometimes feels as if our events only reach those that are affected by that given topic. This event and others were a great send-off for me as I continue within Student Activities as a general office worker in the Fall. I would like to challenge more students, faculty

Cinco De Mayo By: Kyonna Withers Hola amigas! There was a huge fiesta for Cinco De Mayo on Monday May 5 on memorial lawn. There was music, dancing, treats from Ocampos Mexican restaurant, a performance from rrRumba and a hot pepper eating contest! The turnout was great, the weather was

beautiful and people had a great time. What more can we ask for! Congrats to Anival Carrillo for winning the hot pepper eating contest!

Spring Break 2014 was in Chicago this year! 14 students went and had a blast sight seeing Magnificent Mile, Science Centers, the Willis Tower, eating Thai food and seeing Navy Pier. Who doesn’t love getting off campus and heading to another state for the day!

Queer Straight Alliance
rrRumba!
The Queer Straight Alliance has planned and implanted a successful LGBT History month, drag bingo and trips to Spectrum in Appleton. Their mission involves creating an accepting and supportive environment that accepts all sexual orientations and gender identities within and throughout Ripon College. They also aim to educate in order to facilitate the elimination of homophobia and transphobia. They just had elections and Gillian Grocke is the new president. Way to go Gil!
Love to dance? Well this group is for you! rrRumba is a student organization that meets every Tuesday and Thursday in Great Hall at 7 and seeks to promote the appreciation and recognition of ballroom dancing as a positive and constructive form of recreation. Every year rrRumba is invited to perform at International Dinner and goes to Salsa Congress, which is a national salsa convention in Chicago. They also danced at the Cinco De Mayo event and were fantastic! They are always looking for more participants so feel free to join!

Cultural Diversity Club
By: Nautica Frazier Over this semester the Black Student Union has incorporated so much educational events from all types of categories. We kicked the semester with Black history month incorporating Black Jew Dialogue to teach the similarities between African American and Jews. We then had the annual Soul Food dinner asking everyone to bring a canned good to donate to a homeless shelter. Also this April BSU and the Ripon Red hawks Baseball team brought Dennis Biddle a former player form Dodgers Negro Baseball league to talk about his experience about being one of the players in the National Negro Baseball league.
This is a vey active group for international students and those that love to experience international flavors and culture. The purpose of the club is to highlight the various cultures represented on the campus of Ripon College. This is achieved through various activities including movies, a fashion show, presentations about different countries, dances, sponsoring of speakers and musicians, study breaks, and other activities such as International Dinner. Get ready for a great semester in the fall from CDC!
