V ICTOR S ALTER ’43 R ECEIVES S ERVICE AWARDS

Victor Salter ’43 of Hockessin, Del., was presented the Service Corps of Retired Executives (SCORE) Ten-Year Service Award and the SCORE Gold Member Award at a recognition luncheon last spring.

SCORE is a non-profit volunteer organization sponsored by the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA). It assists entrepreneurs in starting and managing small businesses by offering free and confidential counseling services and workshops. Salter is one of 40 members of Delaware Chapter 42, largely composed of retired executives from a variety of business backgrounds. The concept for SCORE was developed by a group led by Maurice DuPont Lee in Wilmington, Del., in the late 1940s. Initial sponsorship of the group was by the Delaware State Chamber of

Commerce, until 1964 when President Lyndon Johnson’s cabinet established the SCORE organization under the SBA. The Wilmington group became Chapter 42 and the prototype for all the chapters formed later. There are now roughly 500 SCORE chapters nationwide with more than 10,000 members.

Salter worked at DuPont Co. for more than 35 years in new product development and marketing. During the later part of his career, he served on printing industry advisory councils at a number of universities. At the time of his retirement, Salter was elected to the Society of Fellows of the Graphic Arts

Technical Foundation and received an honorary life membership in the Research and Engineering Council of the Graphic Arts.

Beginning in1943, Salter served for 40 months in the Army Signal Corps. His unit participated in the Okinawa Pacific theatre campaign and occupation duty in South Korea, followed by his discharge as captain in 1946. In 1947

Salter earned a master’s degree in physics from the University of WisconsinStout. He continues to lead an active role in his community and church.

Salter graduated from Ripon with a degree in physics and mathematics.

20th Reunion, Class of ’84 15th Reunion, Class of ’89

William C. Quistorf ’80 of Everett, Wash., flew the U.S. flag via helicopter during a welcomehome ceremony for the U.S.S. Abraham Lincoln at their homeport in Everett. The Lincoln returned from a 10-month deployment after supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom. Bill is the chief pilot for the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office and a retired army pilot.

Breta Hylden MacPhie ’81 of Bloomington, Minn., was recently promoted at Northwest Airlines to a corporate analyst position. Breta learned there was another Ripon alum with Northwest when notification went out in the company announcing the promotion and a congratulatory response came from Pat Wilke Epting ’73, managing director of corporate sales for Northwest.

Lisa Murphy Stamos ’82 of Cary, Ill., is publisher of McHenry County Woman Newspaper.

Robert L. Brandfass ’83 of Morgantown, W. Va., has been named vice president and general counsel for West Virginia University Hospitals, adding to a similar role he holds for the West Virginia United Health System.
