INTRODUCTION
Hey everyone! Listen up! Time to make an impact!!
RIPPLES INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE
Have you thought of spreading your impact like dropping a tiny object into a static pond and watching it move across the water?
2013
This year, with the theme of Social
Innovation, Ripples
International Conference 2013 will be held by AIESEC-LC-HKU to
create ripples in the ocean of Social Enterprise (SE) in the Asia Pacific region! Ripples International Conference, a must-go conference organized by AIESEC-LC-HKU, has been held for more than four years. For years, AIESEC-LC-HKU has been committed to providing the best conference learning environment as well as an
enlightening, interesting, creative and interactive platform for all of you, and Ripples International Conference 2013 will not be an exception. Hong Kong, as an international financial centre with lots of business opportunities and innovative ideas, is the best place for us to view
social enterprises
through different lenses. 2
The answer is through: Social Entrepreneurship.
WHY
SOCIAL INNOVATION?
In the modern times of rapid change and technological advancement, more and more focus is placed on innovation and creativity. Have you ever considered mixing the concepts of ‘creativity’ and ‘society’ and see the reaction that they produce? That is the idea of Social
Innovation. The key concept of Social
Innovation is to leverage youth’s creativity to create sustainable solutions to social problems, thus bringing favourable influences to our society. It is about self-initiated breakthroughs. As we are the leaders of tomorrow, it is essential that we use this concept to make the world a better place. But Social Innovation seems to be a very vague concept - how exactly is this concept put into action? The answer is: through Social
Entrepreneurship
3
WHY
SOCIAL ENTERPRISES?
Unlike most commercial entities, social enterprises do not aim at maximizing their profits or benefiting their investors. Instead, they exist to achieve certain social
and environmental goals,
e.g. create job opportunities for disadvantaged groups or provide products and services to aid the elderly. Many of them always come up with innovative as well as peoplefriendly solutions to fulfil different social objectives. They hold their faith of putting social aims as their primary goal, hoping to make an impact on society and to change the world for the common good. Social enterprise actually plays an important role in our community’s development. In recent years, more and more people in different parts of the world have stepped into this field and tried to solve the problems that governments have failed to. Social Entrepreneurs believe that everyone can do
something to make surprisingly positive changes to society- why are you still hesitating?

WHY RIPPLES 2013?
HIGHLIGHTS
1. INTERNATIONAL SETTING With at least 1/3 of the delegates and facilitators coming from other countries, we guarantee a wide range of ideas from different perspectives, which is vital to the process of idea generation. Moreover, events like Global Village allow cultural
exchange and also give you a great chance to meet international
friends!
2. FORUMS, DISCUSSIONS & WORKSHOPS ON SOCIAL INNOVATION
Leading social entrepreneurs and organizations are to be invited to give speeches and share their views on the current situation of social enterprises in Hong Kong and the Asia Pacific Region. We do not expect you to know a lot about this topic; thus discussions and in-depth sharing serve as a good way for you to gain more knowledge on the subject! Social Innovation is about trial and error. Mere discussion is not enough. Thus we shall include sessions which enable you to learn through experience. The Ripples
Day will involve an on-street campaign,
giving you a chance to interact with the local community and raise the public’s awareness of certain social issues. Further visits
to social enterprises in Hong Kong will
give you a glimpse of the daily operation of these institutions!

3. MOST IMPORTANTLY, IT’S FUN! We understand that most people join conferences because they find them fun and cool. Of course we are not going to disappoint you! There are plenty of activities for you to relax, meet new friends and have fun. Enjoy the ‘Work Hard, Play Hard’ culture in AIESEC!
Global Village – it brings together everyone in the world. A good platform for delegates to socialize in a diverse cultural environment and enjoy the process of cultural exchange!
Parties - party in the AIESEC way! Enjoy our dances, music, cheers and drinking competition! Mini Hong Kong tour – for local delegates, think you know Hong Kong well enough? We’ll reintroduce Hong Kong to you from another perspective. For international delegates, it is time for you to explore how beautiful and lively the city is!
WHY HONG KONG?
Hong Kong – The Pearl of the Orient The unique blend of Eastern and Western cultures of Hong Kong originates from her past as a British colony. Having been handed over to China since 1997, Hong Kong proudly stands in the world as one of the most developed cities and is part of the prestigious Nylonkong Delta, along with London and New York. Well praised as being the Pearl of the Orient, Hong Kong is well-known for its Victoria Harbour with modern skyscrapers constituting a unique skyline. Positioned as an international financial centre, Hong Kong is no doubt a fast-paced city. In this Isle with style, you are destined to experience different lifestyles with their own fascinations, and to come across the most diverse population in this small but in no way dull city.
9
Gateway to Uniquely Blended Culture With many ancient Chinese temples sprinkled in different corners of the city, Hong Kong is a place with a perfect blend of the Orient and the Occident. You may well be fascinated to see a Victorian style building and a traditional Chinese temple on the very same street, or couples of different skin colours on shopping sprees in the malls.
Eating Paradise Renowned for being the culinary capital of Asia, Hong Kong is home to more than 11,000 restaurants with different cuisines. Apart from enjoying the local Cantonese and regional Chinese food, visitors can savour a full choice of authentic Asian cuisines and Western fare. Local must-try dishes include dim sum and fresh seafood, with some of the top examples found in the best of the best award-winning restaurants.
