Goals and Objectives:
When one decides to go to a cafe, the act of lining up naturally occurs, and another person follows. When entering the Maze Cafe, the costumer will first line up, take their order, and then sit down. The order of operation is also used in the order of circulation. Because the space is just void without any furniture, one can lean on the wall or overlook at the glass wall. Just like any typical line, people have their own style of lining up but it is the direction that matters.

Waiting in line to get their order Compelled to get in line Faster service Reduces interruptions
Like any line, people typical stand and wait while their turn comes. In this cafe, the line has its own space where people can be more comfortable to wait rather than feel they might be in the way. The defined line gives privacy and seperation from the other spaces. It will compel the costumers to line up and take their order. During busy days, the line can be crowded and the noise level can increase. But with this glass barrier, less noise or interruptions will occur. Therefore, those enjoying their coffee on the other side can enjoy it without any interruptions.

Defining the line Seperation of spaces Allowing natural light Directional Clear programmatic relationship
A space does not necessarily have to have complex form but a strong sense of space. One wall can make a difference in space by acting as barriers, and seperating the spaces. The translucent glass wall between the line and cafe seating frames the cafe as a whole and filters natural light from the streets, so it can look like one big space. Because the space is narrow on the side, it may feel compressed, but the glass material will eliminate that tension.

With the freedom to loungs in the waiting pods, one can sit comfortably. Due to the encloser of the walls, one has the privacy to sit in any manner. The body language in this particular space is loose and free as one sits in their own living room. The circular walls allows people to see face to face for communication purposes and to define the threshold.

Intimate waiting spaces Group or individual zones Obtain privacy Can also be used for gathering/meeting
In a large hotel before checking in, people would wait. In the reception lobby, the lounge becomes both an intimate and open space for resting and waiting. Someone might want to sit where they have a better view to the reception, and some might want the privacy to wait. These pods of space serve to different groups of people. People who are coming to just lounge, and get a feel of the atmosphere or people who are coming in to check or check out. As part of the marketing strategy, the hotel wants to make the waiting/lounge area as comfortable as possible, so customers can stay. With the understanding of this strategy, the waiting area is designed for those who appricate waiting in a private or public space. So, it is directly focused on consumer behavior.

Open and closed circle pods Defining threshold Textured glass on some provides privacy For public use, the walls are short Interior of pods contain warm materials
Defined spaces are easily observed with this design of circular pods placed in the middle of the reception. Eventhough they are individual pods, some are still enclosed with textured glass while the other ones are completely open with low partition walls outlining the circular space. Within these circular pods, one can find a built-in seating along with a circle coffee table. It almost serves as a ones own living room. In the space plan, the semi circular reception concaves the circle pods as a grand welcoming.

While one wallks into the waiting booth, an inviting bench is seating right in front. The body of a person can be comfortably seated on the built-in curved bench that carves and locks the body in place.. Before seating, the act of storing objects comes first where one can lean forward to place the object in the small storage space right above the seat.

To get to the next bus stop Reduce blockage of traffic and noise Protection from climate hazards Obtain privacy Awareness
Waiting for a bus or vehicle is already frustrating. With the waiting booth, one can feel relaxed and safe. The security one can feel first comes from the protection from any climate hazards. Eventhough the booth seems open, it can definitlty feel secluded from the streets. It can add awareness to surroundings and to drivers who are ready for pick up. Like phone booths one can have the privacy to talk to others because of the reduction of noise.

Seating Protected overhead Interior: Warm (wood) material Exterior: Cold (concrete) material Space for storage
In outdoor spaces, there are multiple of spaces not yet defined, but in a waiting booth one can feel the encloser of its form and an invitation offered to any local pedestrian. With the use of its materials, the interior is covered with natural birch wood to keep away from the cold. The exterior is all concrete, so it blends with the concrete surfaces on the sidewalk, and appears more like spaces than objects. Due to it openess, glass allows one to see if the waiting booth is occupied. The natural contour of the form outlines both the enclosed planes and the built-in furniture followed by the extra storage space used for small objects. Because benches or any typical outdoor seating are oriented adjacently, the waiting booths have also been situated adjacently on the edge of the sidewalk.
