Architecture to me is something more than just planning. I believe it is governed more by thoughts and ideas than by techniques and construction. But on a later stage I believe structure plays a keen role. I am more inclined towards planning and like to explore more and more details at different levels. I would like to explore different materials and try to use them to make a design which contributes to nature. I have been a part a collabrative programme with CSV(Center of Science for Villages) where we learnt how mud behaves as a material and when used for construction. Given a chance, I would like to work more on sustainable techniques of construction and it’s details.

1. Material studio 1. Repetition

The main objective of this studio was to get familiar to and explore the various posiblites in which different materials can be used. In this studio,stone was taken as the main material. After further exploration of the material I came up with a module that could be repeated in order to form a space. These modules differed from one element to another. The pictures below show the repetition of these modules.

2. Exploration center After the modules were finalized, the site was assigned. An exploration center was designed by me for people to learn stone as a material. This was when we had to apply our exploration and research we did in the material. The site was located in Drangadhra district. It was a historical site named Maan-mehelat with a school in its context. As it was a historical site, the institute had to be designed in such a way that it’s fort also remains prominent. Also the entery passage to the site was very narrow and in order to bring the material inside, the institue had been designed in such a way that these problems could be addressed. The Institute also consisted of an exhibition space where students from the institute itself could exhibit their work. The worksop area and the working space were placed in such a way that the people comming for the exhibition could see the working of the institute

2. Exploration Center 1. Initial stage of design This studio was conducted to learn the basic principals that play an important role in further designing something. The main objective was to learn how things like structure, light, openings and proportions come togeather in the making of a design, and how any variations in these things can completely result into a different design. Here the exhibition space is designed keeping the above mentioned factors in mind.

2. Exhibition space The exhibion space has been designed in such a way that the play of light is prominent. The entery is from a shaded region and then the space gets even darker while accending inside. In some places the use of artificial light is done, while in other places natural light is used to light up the space. Here in the above model, the colours have been used to show the type of light each specific area and the walls recieve.

The above model was made in order to undersatand how load gets trasfered and how center of gravity works when all the load is being transfered to a singular support.

The above model was made using the combination of horizontal and vertical plains to form a toroid. The horizontal members were connected to the vertical members by the cross-lap joint.

This subject focused on the understanding of dfferent details at different scales. Here the model has been made out of original materials to also understand how the material plays its role in the making of the original windows.

2. Wooden sloping roof using scissor truss For designing the form of the roof, we used origami, to understand the types and strengths of the folds used in the truss

Circular stail-case

A space was created using different elements of timber. All elements such as roof, door, window, supporting members were designed keeping timber in mind. Timber scissor truss was designed that adds height to the room and also requires less material.

1. The main focus of the subject was to undersatnd the concept of daylighting, and how it gives a character to the space. We were given to design a design studio for the institution. The east wall was a Sharing wall, and the the rest three facades had the main road running besides them.We have treated each facaed differently in order to maintain the soothing light that comes in the studio. Their is no direct harsh light coming inside. Aslo the roof is designed in such a way that it reflects the direct light uniformly into the studio and there are no dark corners created.

2. Here the design delt with the use of daylight in a residential space. How much light and ventilation is needed in each space and at what time of the day. It has been taken care that the spaces that are to be used at the night can be used to mutualy shade those spaces that are used in the day time. At the same time, the fuctioning of the building has not been hindered.

1. Tepee structure

Tepee is a conical tent made from animal skin and wooden pole. It diffrentialtes itself because of the smoke flap at the top.

2. Catalhuyuk

Catalhuyuk is located overlooking the Konya plain, Southeast of the present day city of Konya in Turkey. It was composed entirly of domestic buildings. All the moment was done from the roof, also these openings created a way out for the kitchen smoke.

The main objective of the subject was to understand the process and the steps through which the design goes before the making of the final thing. In The above model we have studied the same thing and tried to show that by a stepwise presentation. The key factors that went into this process are slipage, inversion , and montage.

2. Wardha Workhshop, Nagpur A winter programme that provided hands-on learning experience with the material and the technique of mud construction.

After gaining a certain level of understanding on our visit to wardha where the technique orginated, we built a real scale structure in our campus .The construction design and primary principle of design were same, but some minor changes were done based on the programe selected. The space is now used as an exhibition space for the campus. Plan
