The two Communities The two communities involved are Northern Ireland and Southern Ireland. They both had different ideas. Southern Ireland is mostly Catholics and Northern Ireland are Catholics and Protestants. Most Catholics don’t want to be ruled by London while the protestants wanted to be ruled by London.
1969-1972 It was in 1969 when many Catholics felt they didn't have sufficient rights education, jobs and councils. They marched, however this made protestants feel threatened . Fights broke out and the troubles began!!
Derry troubles • This is a photo of Annette McGavigan’s mural and the one on the right is my picture of her picking up rubber bullets.
Two Girls! The two girls in the photograph taken over the Derry city walls are Annette McGavigan and Rebecca Inch - me!
Becky and Annette’s lives were the same really. When they were young they did sports. They had black hair. But Annette was brought up in Derry when the troubles were happening. Becky was brought up in a peaceful place – Plockton. It was sad that Annette got caught by a bullet in the fighting.
Gabriel Dobson’s mural
This picture was drawn by Gabriel Dobson. He visited Derry with the Think Links project in 2006.
We learned about the troubles and saw the Bogside murals. This is a picture of a soldier breaking into a house as part of Operation Motorman. We saw the mural.
Rioting and counter rioting by Liam Grimmer This is a drawing of British soldiers firing bullets. They fired them to try and stop the large crowds who were rioting. The picture shows a rioter throwing missiles and petrol bombs from the top of a building. The man on the ground has a pitch fork as a weapon.
Angry rioters in the Northern Ireland Troubles by Cameron MacKenzie
Collecting rubber bullets This is a group of girls in Derry picking up rubber bullets. They think it is cool to collect them and pick them up.
Death of a child by Coleen Golan
Annette Mcgavigan got shot and died in the Northern Ireland Troubles.
It is very sad that a child so young died in this way.
The Bogside Murals! The Bogside murals started off in anger and frustration. But to me they are a thing the remember about someone or something from the past. However the last mural is of a large dove of peace. It is painted along with the other murals!
Becky Inch’s Drawing of the Dove of peace!!
I went to Derry and saw some of the murals, but this is one that is drawn by me. This is my own creative drawing of the dove of peace!!
People in the future will be not afraid of going outside but instead they are friends.
