PROFILE

Hi, my name is Rita, I'm 24 year old and I've graduated in Scenography and Costume Design in Escola Superior de Teatro e Cinema, in Lisbon. Prior to that, I've been in Soares dos Reis Artistic School, where I concluded my professional course of Fashion Design. All my life I wanted to do something with fabrics and garments, so I’m trying to learn all that I can about this way of living. I put my knowlege of fabrics in everything that I do, even in my social or family life. It’s what I love the most. I’m ready to learn and do more, I want a new challenge in my life.

so let’s talk about fashion

MODTÍSSIMO - CONTEST WINNER

THE MANIFEST so is fashion worth it? do people understand what we do? i think we’re the ones that need to understand them. people are always looking for understanding, some way to make a statement. to help create this bond, i alienate myself from any devious thought, and for brief moments, the only thing in my mind is my work. why does everyone need to work? survival, everybody needs to make money, but is life only about that, is it all there is about the working world? I don’t think like that, maybe i’m an alien, but there must be more to it: passion, dedication, most of all pleasure and love in what you do. i want to be seen, not my face our my smile, or even my body, but my work. my creativity is what makes me go on, in a world full of people. i realy need to be creative to feel alive, i would feel empty without it. so how can you understand the world you live in, if you’re not like common people? the answer is creative thinking. I like to study people, to observe them - learning what they want is learning how to deliver. psychology is the science that makes the best partnership with the fashion industry. Fashion is communication, people choose the clothes they wear according to what they want to transmit. colors are feelings, prints are messages, people are like a canvas, and you’re the painter, people may even be advertisement space, if fashion says so. but does economy ask this kind of questions? all the time. what colors are going to sell more this year? what are going to be the best seller product? ... Does fashion need to subjugate itself to economy? I don’t think so, i think it must be the other way around: Economy must be a bridge to deliver fashion, and therefore, creativity must not be dominated by profit, there must be a balance, a bond so my plan it’s to work between this areas, i want to combine fashion, psychology and economy, i want to create wearable manifests, art that can be sold without selling its beliefs. i might be an alien, but i’ve got passion, and passion, combined with hard work, is all i need.
