Opening a gallery seemed like the obvious thing to do for art-loving Perth girl Sam Gorecki. It meant she could live vicariously through the local artists whose work she displayed. But time breeds change and, three years after opening, the inner-city gallery perched at the top end of William Street has transitioned from a small gallery into a cool little store. These Days still sells art, but now there are designer goodies in the mix, too, all carefully curated by Sam. Laptop cases from PAP, French notebooks from Claire Fontaine, Mc&Co denim iPad and iPhone cases, Status Anxiety wallets and Blackbird Fly cameras all get the nod from Sam and clients. “I make a point of looking for things that are different and not already available here,” Sam says.“It’s really important to me that each piece is unique and reasonably priced.” These Days, 454 William Street, Northbridge,WA, call 0439 844 910 or visit www.thesedaysstore.com.

‘62-Series’ desk. The form A small personal desk in walnut, black laminate and painted metal. Designed by Greta Grossman (1906-1999). What makes it special Designed in 1952 and recently reissued by Gubi, this is an important example of the American Atomic-Age style. It features a lightness of form and asymmetrical lines, which are signatures of Grossman’s work. The seemingly simple desk has two low internal drawers and one high drawer.
