seasonal veg There’s always a rush for the f irst asparagus of the year. For those that can’t wait, we’ll start off with a couple of weeks of Spanish, then move onto the UK crop to see the season through.

growing on our french farm Work is well underway on our French farm in the Vendée. The light levels there will bring us veg about f ive weeks sooner than our crops in the UK. Red and green batavia lettuces, along with little gems are the very f irst crops from the farm (look out for them in your vegbox soon). We’ll follow with runner beans, bunched carrots and sweetcorn as the seasons go on. wine for spring days meet Frédéric Brochet, the energetic academic with an obsession for producing lively elegant wines Frédéric is a strong-minded guy. A highly qualif ied winemaker and academic, he set about revamping an old, run-down winery in an unlikely part of France near Poitou, and established himself as a benchmark producer of Sauvignon and Pinot Noir. His wine is a tribute to his hard work and goes particularly well with salads, chicken, f ish and pasta.

chocolate pots These proved such a hit f irst time round we’re bringing them back to make the most of this season’s juicy oranges. makes 4 small espresso cups 200ml double cream 2 tbsp fresh orange juice 1 tsp clear honey (optional) 100g dark chocolate, grated 1 egg yolk Put the cream, honey and juice in a bowl and warm gently over a bowl of simmering water. Remove from the heat and stir in the chocolate and egg yolk (don’t over-mix or it will become grainy). Pour into espresso cups, leave to cool for 10 mins, then chill in the fridge for at least an hour.
