Aromatherapy in a Nutshell

Essential oils are natural essences, steam distilled or expressed from aromatic plants. Research shows that the range of activity of oils is vast, from physical therapeutic actions to spiritual and emotional effects.

The efficacy of essential oils is achieved either via the olfactory system, such as in the use of a vapouriser, or through the skin when applied in a massage treatment, compress or bath.

Aromatherapy is the controlled use of essential oils to help bring balance to the human mind, body and spirit. The word ‘aroma’ means a fragrance or a sweet smell, and ‘therapy’ means a treatment designed to cure. It is helpful to understand that our word ‘cure’ comes from the Latin curare, which simply means ‘to care for’.

On Quality

In aromatherapy, as in every purposeful discipline, the quality of the fundamental tools is critical to its practical success.

Our Essential Oils

We take great pride in our essential oils. They are always sourced with care from reliable, conscientious and ethically driven suppliers, many of whom work closely with us to ensure that our exacting standards are attained. Wherever possible we select oils derived from naturally farmed plants.

We have an extensive range of high quality essential oils which we believe to be one of the most comprehensive and fairly-priced selections available to the aromatherapist today.

Our Carrier Oils and Bases

The importance attached to the choice of carrier oil in aromatherapy has grown considerably over the past few years, and the variety available to the aromatherapist has increased as a result. When selecting a carrier for use in aromatherapy and massage, it is vital to consider its intrinsic properties. Carrier oils have desirable therapeutic qualities and, in some treatments, as much attention should be given to the choice of carrier as that paid to the essential oils which will be added to it. We have an extensive range of high quality carrier oils sourced from a global network of selected producers.

Clays and Waxes:

As well as carrier oils and a neutral lotion for your blending bases, we offer a choice of therapeutic clays, butters and waxes, including beeswax.
