Traditions Rivermont is a school of rich tradition! For over 100 years, one of the most anticipated days for new students has been sorting day when they are “sorted as an Imp or Tiger. When we come together as a school we wear red to display Rivermont pride, but on special Imp-Tiger days, Imps wear green and Tigers wear orange. Competitions are held throughout the year to earn points for Imp-Tiger teams. Other beloved annual events include O.L.E. (Outdoor Learning Experience) Day, International Week and the International Food Festival, Pancake Tuesday, Lunch on the Lawn, the Q & U Wedding, and Campus Beautification Day.
Character Education and Community Involvement Rivermont’s learning environment emphasizes integrity, responsibility, respect, leadership, and appreciation of diversity. Students learn to be responsible citizens within the school community, Quad City community, and beyond. Community service is emphasized at every grade level, from the first volunteering experiences in Lower School Student Council to larger undertakings in Upper School, including the Junior Service Project. Rivermont participates in the Student Hunger Drive each year, as well as a variety of initiatives organized both by individual students and groups such as the National Honor Society and World Cultures Club. Projects range from simple clothing drives to variety shows and murder mystery dinners supporting international non-profits. While the impact of these projects reaches far beyond Rivermont’s campus, students learn that small acts such as holding a door or helping a friend are also important.
Trips, Tours, and Explorations A Rivermont education extends well beyond the classroom! Frequent field trips at all grade levels allow students to interact with what they’re learning and make real world connections.

Family Involvement Rivermont’s family-like learning environment is enhanced by our community of engaged families, who are encouraged to be involved in the Rivermont Community. From membership in Parents’ Council to the occasional class visit as a guest speaker or field trip chaperone, there are many ways for families to get involved. A variety of activities gather families on campus to meet and interact with other families and faculty and allow students to share their accomplishments, including Unpack Your Backpack Night, Grandparents’ & Special Friends’ Day, Family Math Night, Family Art Night and the All School Art Show, Lower School P.E. Night, the annual Academic Fair, and the International Food Festival - to name just a few!
Heritage Founded in 1884, the School was originally organized as St. Katharine’s School, an Episcopal school for girls located in Davenport. In 1968, St. Katharine’s become co-educational and added St. Mark’s to the name. In 1973, St. Katharine’s-St. Mark’s moved to its present location in Bettendorf. The School later amicably broke ties with the Episcopal Church and in 2001 the name was changed to Rivermont Collegiate. Rivermont’s beautiful campus overlooks the Mississippi River. The centerpiece is the historic Bettendorf Mansion, built in 1915 by Joseph Bettendorf, a businessman after whom the city is named. The Mansion is included on the National Register of Historic Places. Both the original Carriage House and Wallace House, a former guest house, are also part of campus. In 2001, Rivermont’s modern facility, Becherer Hall, was built.
There’s always more to learn.
