Amherstburg Culture Trail & Designated Heritage Properties
Toddy Jones Park - 50 North Street The Amherstburg Farmers Market opened in May 2010 and with much success, has grown in size and popularity. The Amherstburg Farmers Market is a not-for-profit that coordinates the efforts of regional vendors. It is the market’s goal to support the Buy Local initiatives by ensuring produce and products sold are from within a 50 kilometre radius. Vendors are paying participants that sell and showcase their goods at the market, including baked goods, fresh fish, honey, jams, jellies and pickles, quilts and kitchen items, jewelry, fruit, vegetables and more. The 2019 season has the Farmers Market moving to the Toddy Jones Park, corner of Dalhousie and North Street every Saturday, starting May 18th to Thanksgiving Weekend. www.amherstburgfarmersmarket.com

Boblo Island (Bois Blanc Island)
Take ferry to Boblo Island A short ferry ride from Amherstburg, Boblo Island was once known as Bois Blanc, meaning “white woods”. The island saw action during the War of 1812 and in later years was became home to a Dance Pavilion commissioned by Henry Ford as well as a popular amusement park. Today, Boblo Island is home to residences, a marina and restaurants in addition to many of the original historic attractions including the Lighthouse, Blockhouse and Dance Hall Pavilion. www.boblo.ca
Belle Vue National Historic Site
525 Dalhousie Street Designated as a national historic site in 1959, the Palladian style Belle Vue House was built between 1816 and 1819 by Robert Reynolds, the Deputy Assistant Commissary General at Fort Malden, The Town of Amherstburg purchased the property in 2016 and it is currently closed to the public as it undergoes extensive renovations. Boblo Island (Bois Blanc Island) Lighthouse and Blockhouse
317 Ramsay Street Considered the oldest church in Essex County and one of the oldest churches in Ontario, construction began in 1818 on land donated by Col. William Caldwell, while the cemetery is believed to date back as far as 1799.
Take ferry to Boblo Island A point of attack by Canadian rebels and their American sympathizers, the only remaining blockhouse was recently reconstructed and is open for tours Sunday from 1pm to 5pm, May 1st to October 1st. The lighthouse and blockhouse are both located at the south end of Boblo Island. The site was designated a National Historic Site of Canada in 1955 and is now owned by Parks Canada.

King’s Navy Yard Park - 214 Dalhousie Street The Commissariat Office was constructed by the British military during the early 1830s. Commissariat Officials managed Fort Malden’s finances and purchased from local contractors the items like flour, beef, straw and firewood that were used by the troops. The Commissariat Building is now owned by Parks Canada and is a Recognized Federal Heritage Building. Today, it is home to the Provincial Marine, serving as the headquarters and interpretive centre for the Life and Times of Provincial Marine.

Fort Covington
This driving route spans from Riverside Drive in Windsor at the east end of the Detroit River turning into Sandwich Street in west Windsor and connecting to Ojibway Parkway South. The road becomes Front Road in the Town of LaSalle and turns into County Road 20 that will bring you into Amherstburg. View the different natural and historical sights along this key transportation route in the Great Lakes system.
534 Sandwich Street South Fort Covington was named after American General Leonard Covington who served as a commander of the War of 1812. This site was the location of an American encampment during the war, and in 2012 it was dedicated as an 1812 Bi-Centennial Peace Garden.

268 Dalhousie Street The Town of Amherstburg Tourism and Culture office is located in the Gordon House, an original 1812 site. You will find tourism information and a gift shop featuring local souvenirs. General Amherst High School Murals
Laird Avenue South Nine large murals, each depicting a story or life in the 1800s, can be found on the back of the General Amherst High School building. The high school is located at 130 Sandwich Street, however the murals are best viewed from Laird Avenue South near Fort Malden Drive. The murals were originally painted in 1964-1967 and restored in 2012 as part of the Bi-Centennial.

King’s Navy Yard Park - 270 Dalhousie Street Located in King’s Navy Yard Park along the Detroit River, this sculpture represents the friendship and peace between Canada and the United States since the War of 1812. The sculpture features three muskets in a stand down formation forming a tripod, morphing into vines and roses.

242 Dalhousie Street This 10.5 acre park overlooking the Detroit River was once home to the Provincial Marine shipyard. Today, it features spectacular landscaping and stunning flowers surrounding the historic monuments and plaques commemorating the history that has taken place here. Wyandotte Cemetery
968 Front Road North The area was once home of the Wyandotte, remnants of the Huron, Neutrals, and Petuns who were dispersed by the Iroquois in the 1640s. Some reunited and settled along the Detroit River where they became known as the Hurons of Detroit, or Wyandottes. One of the last remaining Indian Cemeteries in the area, many of the tribe are buried here. This park is adjacent to Angstrom Park and parking is limited with only two spots available.

Watch thousands of birds of prey flying overheard and take
part in free programs hosted by local experts. This is a great family event for experts and amateurs alike. Experts will be conducting hawk banding and adoptions. Event-goers will get up close and personal to a variety of raptors as experts measure, tag, and then release these birds back into the wild. Programs are free with the festival admission fee of $15 per vehicle.
