While there is still being work done at North Star High School, the new $24.3-million facility is in the home stretch and will be ready to open its doors to students and staff Sept. 6. Principal Melissa DeBruyne and members of her staff have been joining construc tion crews in getting the Simcoe St. building ready for orientation and the first day of classes. The school will combine students from General Amherst High School and Western Secondary School. DeBruyne toured the River Town Times around the new school last week, which started at the office, located just off the main front entrance. A hallway stretches from the main entrance directly to the back door near the triple-gymnasium and five technology shops. The library and one of three computer labs are near the main entrance, across from the cafeteria. on

The school will house the entire population from General Amherst High School and most of the Western Secondary School population, with Awender esti mating there were about ten students from Western that didn’t come over to North Star.
“I can’t wait until it’s completely finished,” he said. “They’ll like it here. It’s a great atmosphere.”
“We have this beautiful open, large space,” said DeBruyne, in reference to the cafeteria. “This is some thing we’re not used to in both schools.”

By Brian Young Middle School Fiction / Indigenous Nathan decides to visit his grandmother at her mobile summer home on the Navajo reservation. Other than working on his science fair project he is expecting a pretty quiet vacation, considering there is no electricity or cell service. That is until the night he wanders too far into the desert and discovers the Water Monster in need of help. Nathan embarks on a journey to a world of Navajo traditions, language and magical Holy Beings, as he aids both the Water Monster, and his veteran Uncle who is struggling with troubles of his own.
“Once the floor is ready, we can bring back all sports except for basketball,” said DeBruyne.

The size of the North Star High School library is “a nice-sized space,” said Harte, with a greater selection of books as it combines the libraries from both General Amherst and Western.
Teacher/librarian Joanne Harte said she’s “had a lot of help” in setting up the new library.
The stage area in the gym doubles as a music room, with DeBruyne noting a soundproof wall can come down and separate the music room from the gymna sium. A similar design is used at Leamington District Secondary School, she added.

The science area features both wet and dry labs, while the kitchen is also taking shape. DeBruyne said the goal is to have the culinary program running within the first week of classes and serving food to staff and students. The fitness/weight room is at the back of the school with windows that look out on the back of the property and the rest of H. Murray Smith Centennial Park next door. North Star High School is built on the southern 15 acres of H. Murray Smith Centennial Park, which was sold to the Greater Essex County District School Board
North Star High School features state-of-the-art technology, including the shops and science areas. There are no chalkboards in the entire school, as there are white boards and 75-inch touch screen monitors –or “viewboards” – instead.
“Anything you can do on a whiteboard you can do on a viewboard,” she said.
“It’s been very good feedback,” he said. “They are excited to come in and see it.”
“They have every program there is,” said Awender. “I think the student population will enjoy it. I think the community is excited as well.”

“It funds what you have at the time,” he said. Awender touted the programming that will be offered at North Star High School, from the culinary area, tech classrooms and the cosmetology lab, the latter to be opened to the public.
A public open house is being planned for later in the fall, Awender pointed out. That will come after the school is fully completed and staff and students are settled in.
Construction progressing at new public high school in Amherstburg Continued from Page 1
The main east-west hallway runs from the science labs near the Victoria St. S. side of the building to the cafeteria and MAPS classrooms on the east side of the building along Fryer St., the MAPS classrooms being where the former Western Secondary students will be educated much of the time. In between are the majority of the classrooms.
The gymnasium at North Star High School will not be ready until at least two weeks after school starts. Basketball and volleyball will start at General Amherst High School until the gyms are ready.
Awender did acknowledge the delays with the gymnasium and the tech area.
It could take up to four weeks for the basketball team to move over to the new school as additional padding is also required for walls and the stage area, DeBruyne added.
“We’re making headway,” said DeBruyne. Construction is starting to wrap up, though as of last Friday, students were not expected to have access to some of the shops as construction crews needed a bit more time to get them ready for the students. The shops had to be closed during this week’s orientation.
The shops feature equipment that was donated to the school, including a large donation by Integrity Tool & Mold. CNC machines were donated to the school by the company, she pointed out.
“It definitely looks smaller from the outside,” said DeBruyne, of the new school. “When you come inside of it, you realize how big it actually is.”
The science wing at North Star High School runs in the section of the building along Victoria St. S. It features both wet and dry labs for the students to learn in.
As for the growing population of Amherstburg and whether that could impact North Star High School, Awender said the Ministry of Education doesn’t fund future projections.

The auto shop makes up part of the technical area at North Star High School. While they weren’t ready for orientation this week, shops are expected to be ready soon.

DeBruyne added if there are students who have difficulty eating in large groups, there is an area set aside for them to eat in a quieter atmosphere.

Todd Awender, the superintendent of education –school development and design with the GECDSB –said the new school is nearing capacity. He estimated enrolment at 750 students with the design being for 819“I’mstudents.veryhappy with it,” said Awender, who is a former principal at Amherstburg Public School. “They say we’re going to be ready on time.”

Some may call it election season, some may call it silly season, but we’re definitely in the midst of the race to see who will make up the next town council. It’safull ballot here in Amherstburg, with four running for mayor, five for deputy mayor and 16 for councillor. On top of that there are two running for a trustee position with the Greater Essex County District School Board while the Windsor-Essex Catholic District School Board trustee is acclaimed for another term as is the trustee for the Conseil Scolaire Catholique Providence (French Catholic school board). There are also four candidates for the Conseil Scolaire Viamonde (the French public school board).

Hello Taxpayers, Let me be the first to congratulate each and every person running for a position in our upcoming municipal election Oct. 24 with advance polls Oct. 5 and 15. It is so refreshing to see the number of individuals we have running, all wanting your vote and to make our Town better. Thank you each and every one of you.
Now it is time to get to know all that are running, their platform, what they stand for and what they plan on acting on if elected. Call them, meet with them, facetime them, whatever way you can, just do it. If you care where your money is going, where your taxes are going, here is your chance to put democracy to work for you. Think of the following questions, do the candidates know the answers?Whatis the total debt of the town? What is costs to service that debt? What will the cost be to upgrade our water treatment plant and what is the timeline for doing this? If our infrastructure supports the future growth of Amherstburg? How important it is to vote in a municipal election? How a ward system works and how it will affect Amherstburg?
I then ask what are you taking? “I am in second year nursing or first year sciences, fourth year communications, Grade 12, third year computer science, going into first year environmental studies.”Iask“What are you looking to do?”

Just to put the cherry on top for Amherstburg voters this year, there is also the question of whether voters want to bring in a ward system to town. Amherstburg currently votes to elect one mayor, one deputy mayor and five councillors in an at-large system. Essex, Tecumseh and Lakeshore currently are the Essex County munic ipalities with ward systems while LaSalle, Kingsville, Leamington have an at-large system. We are attempting to educate voters on who the council candidates are through the election candidate profiles you have been seeing in the paper for the last few weeks. All four mayoral candidates have been profiled, and now we’re working our way through the deputy mayor and councillor candidates. The aim is to have all of the candi date profiles completed by mid to late September and if I haven’t reached out to you yet, expect a phone call or e-mail from me in the coming days and/or weeks. As I type this, there are still a few candidates with no contact informa tion showing on the town’s website. If you fall into that category and are interested in a profile, feel free to e-mail me at mail@rivertowntimes.com or call 519-736-4175 to arrange a time. At the end of the day, we encourage people to educate themselves on the issues, decide what issues are impor tant to them, who has the best quali fications to address those issues and who has the best ability to work with other people. Regarding the latter point, it’s a seven-person team around the table and no decision is made in isolation so council members have to work with each other, work with administration and listen to the needs and wants of all of the residents to move this community forward and in a positive direction. People can vote for whoever they choose to and do so for whatever reasons they want. Personally, I have my own criteria and issues that I want to see addressed but I don’t want to be seen as swaying the electorate one way or the other so I’ll keep those to myself and listen intently on who can address those issues. The bottom line is that we encourage residents to educate themselves on the facts and decide for themselves who is best to represent their interests. May the best candidates win and we will try to continue to give them the fairest coverage we can.
Election season is upon us again, make sure to study the facts

A major issue for Kretschmann is how tax dollars are spent and he be lieves further analysis is needed on the matter.“That’s the number one issue,” said Kretschmann. While finances are a major issue for Kretschmann, so are parks. He believes they add to the quality of life for local residents. July 1, 1935 to August 17, 2022 With great sadness we announce that Ron passed away on August 13, 2022, at age 73. Big brother to Jane and friend to brother-in-law Eric, he was the beloved uncle of Gillian and Mitch, of whom he was enormously proud. He loved them both dearly. He will be missed by his many friends especially his community of Amherst Pointe, where he lived on the shore of Lake Erie for 40 years. Ron travelled the world and brought home tales which fascinated his listeners—embellishment was occasionally suspected, but laughter was always shared. His curiosity of lands, peoples and cultures was boundless. He experienced the mountains of Nepal and Afghanistan, shrimping in Darwin, Australia, working underground in South Africa, climbing the pyramids of Egypt, and picking bananas while living on Kibutz Masada, Israel. He spent many months on the island of Ios, Greece, where he rejoined his band of travelling companions each summer. He followed the path of the Buddha in India, swam in the ocean off Goa, and sang with the best of them at the Glastonbury Festival. A man of many interests, he read widely, watched Coronation Street faithfully, completed the daily crossword (quickly), was unbeatable at Scrabble (he knew too many words), collected beach glass on his morning walks and had an astonishing knowledge of Rock & Roll and the Blues. His found treasures from scuba diving off his boat, Grin ‘N Barrett, were extensive. He never lost his affection for his treasured dog and loyal companion, Buddha.
After many years travelling he spent his working life as a Plant Operator at the water filtration plant in Windsor. He was a kind and generous man, who spoke to everyone and brought laughter to many. He remained interested and curious about the people and the places of the world until the end of his life. We are all at a loss for his passing. Shine on Ron.
It is with broken hearts as we held his hand when he peacefully passed away at home surrounded by his loving wife and daughters.
A heartfelt Thank You to each of the medical professionals who compassionately cared for Stuart. As per Stuart’s wishes, cremation has taken place and entrusted to The Cremation Society of Windsor and Essex County. Online condolences and treasured memories may be shared with the family at www.cremationsociety.ca
A devoted family man, wonderful caring husband to his loving wife Teddie (Eden) for 65 years. Lights of his life were daughters, Wanda and Dana, sons Brian (1960) and Joel (1964).Proud Papa of Lauren (Kaz), April (Reid), Devin(Jayden), Allie-Marie and Lily. Great-grandchildren Ethan, Briella, Max (2021) and Baby on the way. Stuart was a talented man, an artist, passionate reader of history, supporter of wildlife, the environment, gardener, created lanterns with the Tinsmiths of the Park House Museum. His home was his castle! He was a quiet man, always young at heart, our Rock, always there for us, had a twinkle in his eye, warm smile, loved to tease and a heart full of love, his presence will be deeply missed.

Her parents are Michelle Duby Bowden and An thony Bowden and the family tries to come to Canada every four years with Amherstburg nor mally as part of their travelBowdenitinerary.said she be came part of the “Mercy Ships” program, which has a large vessel based off the coast of Africa. When her trip to Canada ends, she will be heading to Senegal and getting back aboard the ship. “It’s a hospital ship,” said Bowden. “Their aim is to provide free surgical services mainly to those in mainland Africa.”
The ship also goes to Guinea and provides facial surgeries, many for cleft lips and palates as well as for tumours, bowlegs and up to four other special ties. There is also treatment for women’s health con ditions aboard the self-contained, fully operational hospitalBowdenship.explained that there is often follow-up after a surgery and that is done on board the ship
While in Canada this time around, Bowden said they are visiting a family cabin near North bay and also“It’sAmherstburg.reallynice to come back,” she added. She stayed for a period of time at the home of Tom and Sharon Kilgallin as her grandparents’ home was undergoing a renovation, but she still got to see her grandparents.MercyShips is “an amazing organization,” she added. Their mission, according to the Cana dian version of the organization’s website, is “to see every African have access to safe and timely healthcare” and “to bring first world healthcare to a developing country.”

The “Mercy Ships” spend several months in a port, with some of the missions Bowden being a part of lasting five months in Guinea and eight months at a previous stop in Senegal. “I really enjoy it,” she said. “I’m going back to Sen egal this time for two-and-a-half months. I really like the work they do.” Bowden applied to work on a Mercy Ship roughly 18 months after becoming a nurse, despite the fact it takes two years of experience before being accepted. She still lives in Australia but goes to the ship when she is needed. “I think before I knew I wanted to become a nurse, I wanted to help people,” she said. “I think that’s the blessing of the job is that you can help people any where.”

“Most of the conditions we do you don’t see here,” sheThereexplained.arealso other medical disciplines on board the ship including a dietician. Other aspects Bowden said she enjoys include helping people, doctors and health professionals within the African countries become more sustainable as there is medical capac ity-building and mentoring for the African health officials to help their health care systems become stronger.“Foraship, it does very little sailing,” said Bowden. “When you serve on the ship, you live on the ship.”

“It’s fantastic to be part of it,” she said. Of the shows she does, Art by the River is likely the main one, Young said. She started drawing around age three and started taking a serious interest in art when she started attending high school.
“This is the first time I’ve been to this event,” he said. “I’m actually surprised at the attendance. It’s pretty darn good.”Robert Bishop of Bishop’s Artwork Wonders said he and his wife resumed coming to Art by the River about seven years ago and, in total, they’ve been coming for approximately 12 years. He said he enjoys speaking with the“Apeople.lotofpeople like nature and animals,” he said, as he painted. “They are inspired by nature like I am and a lot of people take (the artwork) home.”
Robert Bishop paints under his vendor tent Saturday during Art by the River. The LaSallebased artist was one of over 160 vendors at Fort MaldenHistoricNationalSite. PHOTOS BY RON GIOFU
Large crowds came to Art by the River throughout the weekend (above) while plein air artist Ober-Rae Starr Livingston paints during the Saturday portion of the two-day show (below).
The guild is thankful for the support of those who came as well as the vendors but to the sponsors and Fort Malden National Historic Site as well. Tracy Atkinson, the office administrator at the Gibson Gallery, said there were over 160 vendors on site. The vendors were mainly from the Windsor-Essex County area but others came from around southwestern Ontario.
Bishop said he used to work with injured children in a regional hospital and used to draw with special needs children. Once a hospital worker asked him to paint her dog, and when he did, she showed it around the hospital with“I’veadmiration.beenpainting ever since,” he said.
RTT
Last year saw about 100 vendors attend and a one-way traffic flow due to the COVID-19 health restrictions.
Wednesday, August 31, 2022 – River Town Times – 9www.rivertowntimes.com
Approximately 25 per cent of the vendors were new this year, she added.
Allen Mickle and his daughter Rebecca were on site with their work from Lakewood Custom Woodworking in Amherstburg and were happy to be back.
“Everyone is loving to see the artwork and they are happy to be out and about,” Rebecca added. “It’s beau tiful weather. How can you beat this?” Sandra DeVrieze from Designs by S.A.D. said she has been coming to Art by the River for about 15 years. She said it is one of her favourite shows, adding she has people coming from London to see her at it.
Livingstone said he is part of the Windsor & Essex County Plein Air Artists and stated they were asked during the their recent exhibit at The Gibson Gallery to also participate in the competition at Art by the River.
“It’s nice to see more and more vendors,” said Rebecca. “Last year was tough.”
A back injury forced him to stop working so he concen trated on his artwork. It became popular enough that his wife left her job to work alongside him. A show in Leamington where he sold a number of works propelled his art career forward and the rest is history.
RISE ABOVE THE ORDINARY
“I love everything about it,” said DeVrieze, who is from Brandon, Manitoba but has a summer home in Port Dover. “There is a great committee, the crowds are amazing. There’s nothing bad I can say about it. It’s an amazing show.” DeVrieze said she will keep coming back to Amherstburg as long as organizers want her. Local artists Madison Young returned this year as well. Young, 20, said it was her fourth Art by the River and said there was a lot of variety among the vendors.
“We have a good show. Everyone is happy and smiling,” said Gagnon.
The Gibson Gallery is located at 140 Richmond St. in Amherstburg. For information, call 519-736-2826 or visit www.gibsonartgallery.com.
“I definitely recognize a lot of the vendors here,” she said.Ober-Rae Starr Livingstone was one of the plein air artists on hand. He said he enjoyed getting out and painting at the show. He has lived in Windsor for “about five or six years” but comes to Amherstburg frequently.
Proceeds from Art by the River help fund the Gibson Gallery’s operations Continued from Page 1
Like Gagnon, Atkinson said the combination of good weather and the full show being offered led to its success. She also said she was getting positive feedback from vendors and those in attendance.
A plein air art competition was also part of the event last Saturday, as artists from the Windsor & Essex County Plein Air Artists group were on site having a competi tion. Their work will be put up in the Gibson Gallery for a month and be judged with cash prizes to be awarded.

for WECSSAA
“In the spring, we did have about 43 different bodies show up,” said Rudak, as he watched players go through various drills last Wednesday evening. “We have roughly 33 now. We’re probably down about ten players compared to who came out in the spring.”

The North Star Wolves are getting ready for the 2022 WECSSAA football season in the shadow of their former home.
“It’s wide open,” he said. “Everyone is welcome to come out.”

“They are going to provide stability right now,” he said. At least three, and possibly a fourth, player is joining the team after having been at Western Secondary School last year. While players can join the team when school begins Sept. 6, Rudak said there is definite value from having been at practice last week and again this week.
Coaches started working with the players last week at Bill Wigle Park, next to General Amherst High School, in preparation for the first football season since 2019. Practices ran Monday through Thursday last week and have been continuing this week at the same location from 5-6:30 p.m.
“The most important part of it all is being here,” he said, “and being part of the team for the first two weeks. The more familiar we are, the more opportunities they’re going to get.”
“Knights of North Castle” take over local church
“I really like the athleticism of the people playing in the secondary,” he said. “We’ve got an ample group of offensive linemen right now.”

By Ron Giofu
“It’s definitely a total mix,” said Rudak.
Rudak said he is hoping to start the season with about 40 football players.
Describing last week’s practices as “slow and tedious,” Rudak added a lot of time has been spent by the coaches working on drills and explaining how to do things. As the roster is constructed now, there are players from a variety of grades.
The players were improving each day, Rudak added, and things were getting smoother. With the transition to the new school, there is still some uncertainty as to where the Wolves will be able to store their equipment and where they can practice but Rudak is confident things will get worked out. A football field is being constructed next to the new school but likely won’t be ready for this season.

in the secondary.
The offensive line is solid, Rudak added, with another team strength likely to be North Star High School head coach John Rudak goes over a drill during practice last Wednesday evening. They continue to practice this week at Bill Wigle Park, next to General Amherst High School.

Wolves head coach John Rudak said they don’t have as many players practicing as they did in the spring, but hopes more will still show up before the start of the season.
There are about three players who played at General Amherst three seasons ago and four players coming in from the bantam Ravens travel program.
A blocking drill was part of football practice in preparation of the upcoming North Star High School football season. They are training at Bill Wigle Park again this week.
Encounter Church held its free kids week last week with this year’s theme being “Knights of North Castle.” Children from around the area took part in various events and activities for two hours per night from Monday through Friday. Student staff members and church volunteers led the children through the various activities and lessons offered at the camp.

Admirals hold training camp in preparation for 2022-23 PJHL season
New acquisitions like Stefan Djordjevic, Layne Crispin and Lukas Boudreau are expected to strengthen the team this season.
The local Jr. C hockey club is preparing for the 2022-23 Provincial Junior Hockey League (PJHL) Stobbs Division season and held two days of training camp at Tecumseh Arena last week as upgrades are being made to the ice making system at the Libro ApproximatelyCentre.40 players came out to the sessions last Wednesday and Thursday night but Admirals head coach Paul Bortignon said cuts would be made shortly after the camp and at the start of this week to pare down the roster.
There were already summer skates in Windsor, he noted, and Bortignon said the excitement level is starting to build within the group. He pointed out there was some uncertainty last year on how the season would go due to the COVID-19 pandemic.“Ithinkthere’s a little more excitement now knowing what to expect,” he said.
The Amherstburg Admirals are getting back to work.
The Admirals plan to choose 14 forwards, seven defenseman and two goalies. Bortignon said there will be first-year players and returning veterans on the roster, but the latter will have to earn back their roster spots.
Landon Prince, Josh Pederson and Jadyn Brown are expected to return and help out on the blue line, with Bortignon adding they also acquired the rights to Derek Berdusco, who played Jr. B in LaSalle last year. While Berdusco will miss the first few months of the season due to surgery, Bortignon added his presence and leadership is already positively influencing the team.
“I think we improved the offense with some of the signings we brought in,” said Bortignon, as he joined the other coaches in a community room that looked down on the ice. “Overall, I think we’ll be deeper offensively.”
LIBRA – Sept 23/Oct 23 Libra, big financial decisions are looming. A little restraint now can pay big dividends down the road. The rewards will be worth it.

PISCES – Feb 19/Mar 20 Few signs understand the importance of building a strong foundation as well as you, Pisces. Start crafting a new relationship this AUGUSTFAMOUSweek.BIRTHDAYS28-JackBlack,Actor (53)

LEO – Jul 23/Aug 23 Leo, seek the path not often taken this week, even if it seems long and winding. Sometimes the most direct way to go is not the easiest — even if it seems that way.
SCRAMBLEWORD Rearrange the letters to spell something pertaining to summer.

Bortignon said last year was likely the worst season the team has had since he started coaching them eight years ago. The Admirals finished 16-15-0-1 with 31 points, good for fourth place but they were swept in four straight games in the first round of the playoffs.
CAPRICORN – Dec 22/Jan 20 Capricorn, let your emotions rather than your intuition guide you this week. That’s not something you hear often, but it’s for the best right now.
SAGITTARIUS – Nov 23/Dec 21 Sagittarius, professional motivation is easy to muster this week. Embrace your extra energy and put it to good use at work. Others will take notice.

SCORPIO – Oct 24/Nov 22 Scorpio, you can be effective and efficient when you’re in your element. Others will attest to that this week after they see you in action. Enjoy the attention.
TAURUS – Apr 21/May 21 Taurus, it may prove challenging to figure out where inspiration will come from next. Rather than seeking it out, wait for things to unfold more organically.
Bortignon added there is excitement around the two new assistant coaches as well, as Mark Turner and Cody Schneider join the staff. As the River Town Times reported in May, assistant coach Marc Crevier returns and will continue to work with the defense while Turner, who has pro experience as a player and coaching experience as an assistant with the Windsor Spitfires from 2006-10, will take over from Eric Shaw and work with the forwards. Schneider will gain experience helping out with practices and scouting.
GEMINI – May 22/Jun 21 Gemini, do not be afraid to think outside the box this week. The stars are spurring you in a particular direction that could influence various components of your life.
CANCER – Jun 22/Jul 22 Ideas come from where you least expect them this week, Cancer. Keep your eyes wide open and pay attention to all conversations so you can be attuned to any clues.
Kicks & Giggles
Opposing teams were able to key on one line last year, and Bortignon doesn’t believe that will be the case this season.
“The object is to fill a 23-man roster after the exhibition game on the 13th (of September),” said Bortignon.

“Hotel, anyone?” he asks. Projects like the Duffy’s site have to be done in phases, and Amlin believes letting people onto the site would garner support.

“It’s not a never-ending pot at the end of the rain bow,” he said. Amlin questions why the town has lost so many employees and believes “any replacements should be in it for the long haul and not a second job after retir ing from another job.”
Children of all ages enjoyed “Summer Splash” events put on free of charge by the Amherstburg Fire Department. Jack Purdie Park was the first of three stops (top left) where children could play in the water, get a look at fire trucks and enjoy the evening. The second one, where Firefighter Myles Robinson was joined by Caleb Underwood, was Aug. 18 at Pat Thrasher Park while the third and final “Summer Splash” event was this past Tuesday evening at Beaudoin Park in the River Canard subdivision. Amlin believes town “has to get back to basics” in the next four years
“I’m sure if asked, they would share their results for a much smaller fee than an engineer.”
TAKE NOTICE that the Council of the Corporation of the Town of Amherstburg will hold a public meeting on Monday, September 26, 2022 commencing at 4:00 p.m. in the Town of Amherstburg Council Chambers, 271 Sandwich Street South, Amherstburg, Ontario. Continued from Page 5 Setting aside an hour at each council meeting for residents to voice concerns was another suggestion while moving projects forward that have “been sit ting in the wings” was also suggested.
“I’m a firm believer if people are engaged and have their feet on it and see something, they are go ing to go with it,” said Amlin. Belle Vue was another example. Amlin said they would “better understand the beauty of it” if al lowed on site. Amlin also said he believes the town should re duce some of its assets as “after a while, they are li abilities.”Theneeds and wants of council and the town should be balanced on what taxpayers can afford, Amlin added. He believes the town has to establish levels of service and the ability to pay for those ser vices.
The town as a whole has to be looked after, he believed, with recreational amenities also needing to be replaced.
