RHYTHMS OF GENEROSITY

Giving is like a muscle. The more you work it out, the stronger it gets. The Lord proved this years ago when Pastor Rob felt prompted to take up a mission offering for the missionaries every week leading into Christmas. In years past, he would hold off on offerings until special events like guest speakers or Christmas Eve. However, what he realized was by holding off on offerings, it meant that once or twice a year you ask your congregation to hit their maximum weight, and the response is limited... In contrast, when the church gave weekly leading into Christmas, giving was actually strengthened and increased continuously until the final gift! After this experience, to strengthen the giving muscle, River Valley has found this monthly rhythm to help cultivate a generous church and increase generosity.

Notes

Ask, Update, Celebrate, Break

Each month River Valley talks about giving every week and found the cadence of Ask, Update, Celebrate, Break, to work well with our congregation.

Ask:

The first week of the month, we choose our monthly project or partner that we will highlight during our weekend services. We will show a video, have slides ready to present and announce our partner's goal from the stage. Once this is highlighted, we will ask for a contribution.

Update:

The second week of the month, we update the church on how much we raised for the partner or project that we highlighted the past week. We will ask a second time for people to give if they had not had the opportunity yet to contribute.

Celebrate:

The third week we celebrate what we raised! No matter if we went above the goal, hit the goal, or were below the goal, we celebrate generosity.

Break:

The fourth week of the month we will still take offerings, but we will not highlight a specific project or partner.
