A WALK THROUGH PSALM 23 “The Lord is my shepherd; I have all that I need. He lets me rest in green meadows; He leads me beside peaceful streams. He renews my strength. He guides me along right paths, bringing honor to his name. Even when I walk through the darkest valley, I will not be afraid, for you are close beside me. Your rod and your staff protect and comfort me. You prepare a feast for me in the presence of my enemies. You honor me by anointing my head with oil. My cup overflows with blessings. Surely your goodness and unfailing love will pursue me all the days of my life, and I will live in the house of the Lord forever. PSALM 23, NLT

GO VERSE THIS SCRIPTURE IS OUR THEME VERSE AS WE VENTURE THROUGH THE VALLEY OF SHADOWS! “Even when I walk through the darkest valley, I will not be afraid, for You are close beside me.” Psalm 23:4, NLT

FAMILY ACTIVITY Pass out strips of paper and a pencil to each member of your family. Together, write out things that you are afraid of or worried about on each strip. Next, talk about those worries and what may be causing them. Next, take time to pray about them and ask God to replace that worry with faith. After praying, rip up the paper worries and throw them away!

Why do we need God’s strength to do what is right? This week, we talked about what it looks like when a sheep is “cast.” (Where they have fallen over and can’t get up.) Have you ever had to rescue an animal that was in danger? What happened?

“I belong to God, I have nothing to fear”

STRAIGHT FROM GOD’ S WORD As a family, read Psalm 23:4 … “Even when I walk through the darkest valley, I will not be afraid, for You are close beside me. Your rod and Your staff protect and comfort me.” Next, use these questions to spark family discussion time about the verse: • • • • • • •

We are learning that God is our Shepherd and does great things for us (His sheep). What is the reason we don’t have to be afraid even when bad things happen all around us? According to the verse we read, what does God use to comfort us? Why do you think He uses those symbols/tools/weapons to talk about comfort? Do you turn to God first when you are afraid? Why or why not? What gives you comfort when you are afraid? Why do you think God wants to be the one to comfort us?

“Thank you, God, for being with me at all times. Help me to remember to turn to Your Word whenever I am afraid and look to You for comfort and peace. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

“I belong to God, I am prepared and protected”

To God, there’s no such thing as a “little white lie.” Truth is truth. A lie is a lie. In Genesis 37:23-33, we read about the deception of Joseph’s brothers. They treated their brother horribly and then tried to cover it up by lying to their father. Check it out and then answer the questions below…
