WEEK 1 Circle the correct answer from this week’s Bible story: Matthew 26:36-46

SURRENDER

Jesus went to the GARDEN / RESTAURANT of Gethsemane to pray. Jesus brought his PARENTS / DISCIPLES with him to keep watch while he was praying. Jesus knew that it was God’s plan for him to die on the cross, but it still made Jesus HAPPY / SAD. The CUP / BOWL Jesus was talking about was his death on the cross. Jesus asked God TWO / TEN times if there was any other way that the plan for salvation could happen without him dying, but each time at the end of his prayers, Jesus said, ‘May your will be done.’ Jesus chose to IGNORE / SURRENDER to God’s perfect plan. He willingly went to the cross and died for our sins.

Do it together! Pray: Lord, help us to trust your perfect plan for our lives. Thank you for sending Jesus as an example of how we can surrender. Amen. Think about it: Why did Jesus choose to obey God and not run away? What are areas of your life that you may be afraid to surrender? What are things we can do to give us the faith to surrender? Prop talk: A white flag Waving a white flag is the international symbol of surrender. Use your white flag to surrender your will and life to God. Use a marker to write on the flag a part of your life you are surrendering to God. Is it your time, future, fears? Surrender it to God today! Memorize this week’s Bible verse: Proverbs 3:5-6 Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways, submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.

GRATITUDE

TEN / ONE THOUSAND men met Jesus at the entrance to the village. Because the men had A RUNNY NOSE / LEPROSY they had to keep their distance from Jesus. Leprosy was a sickness of the SKIN / STOMACH that was considered unclean and very contagious. Jesus told the men to go see the MAILMAN / PRIESTS and as the men went, they were healed. At this sight, ONE / ALL OF THEM came back to Jesus. The man threw FLOWERS / HIMSELF at the feet of Jesus to thank him for his healing. Jesus told the man to, ‘ RISE / JUMP and go; your faith has made you well.’

Do it together! Pray: Lord, thank you for everything you’ve blessed us with. Teach me to learn how to always be grateful. Amen. Think about it: Why do you think only one leper came back to thank Jesus? When life seems difficult, it can be hard to remember to be grateful. What are some ways you can recognize the blessings you do have and show your gratefulness? What are some things you can be grateful for at all times? Prop talk: A thank you card It’s time to practice expressing our gratitude just like the one leper who returned to Jesus to thank him. Use the card provided and write a thank you note to someone you would like to show your gratitude to. It could be mom or dad, friend or neighbor, or even Jesus! Memorize this week’s Bible verse: 1 Thessalonians 5:18 Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.

PRAYER

The Lord told Elijah there would be a time with no rain. Over the next TWENTY / THREE years, the land dried up. King Ahab was a very WICKED / FUNNY king, who worshipped an idol named Baal. All the people who worshipped Baal and Elijah met on Mount SKITTLES / CARMEL. Elijah prayed the Lord would answer him. The Lord sent FIRE / MEATBALLS to show He was the one, true God so the people would turn their hearts back to Him. To pray for rain, Elijah went to the BEACH / TOP OF THE MOUNTAIN. Elijah’s servant went to check for rain clouds 7 / 1,000,000 times before the Lord brought rain.

Do it together! Pray: Lord, give us the persistance and faith to pray like Elijah in all circumstances. Remind us to come to you quickly in prayer. Amen. Think about it: What do you think Elijah was thinking/feeling while he was praying to God? What are three things you can pray for right now? When you pray, do you believe that what you ask for in prayer, you will receive? Prop talk: Skittles Prayer is powerful. Use your Skittles to demonstrate the power of prayer. Place your skittles (these represent prayer) on a plate or in a bowl. Next add hot water- (the water represents God). Watch what happens when our prayers are combined with the power of God. Memorize this week’s Bible verse: Mark 11:24 Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.

FORGIVENESS

Because of the famine, Joseph’s brothers went to Egypt the first time to GET FOOD / VACATION. When the brothers saw him, they didn’t know it was Joseph, but he recognized them immediately. He noticed that FIVE / ONE brother was missing and told them not to come back without him. When the brothers returned for a second time to buy food, they were AFRAID / EXCITED. When Joseph saw his brother Benjamin, he went to his room and HAD A DANCE PARTY / CRIED. The servants found the silver cup in the bag of MICKEY MOUSE / BENJAMIN. Joseph told his brothers to come close because HE FORGAVE THEM / HE COULDN’T HEAR THEM.

Do it together! Pray: Lord, thank you for forgiving us for all we have done. Give us the strength to forgive others, even when it may not be easy. Amen. Think about it: Why do you think Joseph forgave his brothers so quickly? Because Jesus forgave us, do you think it’s wrong for us to not forgive others? Why is forgiveness so important for our hearts? Prop talk: Dissolving paper We all need to forgive like Joseph did for his brothers. Use your small piece of paper and write on it a name of someone or something you are choosing to forgive. Then put it in a glass of water and watch what happens. This is what forgiveness looks like! Memorize this week’s Bible verse: Ephesians 4:32 Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.

OBEDIENCE

God told Noah to build a big ark out of CYPRESS WOOD / LEGOS. Noah did everything God asked him to do. He gathered FIFTY / TWO of every kind of animal to go in the ark. Before the rain came, THE HULK / THE LORD shut the doors of the ark. The rain fell for FORTY DAYS AND FORTY NIGHTS / ONE HOUR. Noah knew it was safe to leave the ark when the dove came back with CHICK-FIL-A / AN OLIVE BRANCH. The Lord was pleased with Noah’s obedience and sent a RAINBOW / PUMPKIN.

Do it together! Pray: Lord, show us areas in our lives we need to be obedient and give us the will to always obey. Amen. Think about it: What do you think Noah’s neighbors thought of him building the ark? Why do you think it’s important that we obey? What is something that is hard for you to obey? Prop talk: Maze Obedience means we follow someone elses guidance. To demonstrate this, use your maze and draw a line through it. But wait, you must do it with your eyes closed! Have a parent or friend be your eyes and give you step by step directions on how to get through the maze. You obey their lead and watch how easily you will succeed. Memorize this week’s Bible verse: James 1:22 Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.

GENEROSITY

A crowd of people followed Jesus to the MOUNTAINSIDE / BEACH, where he sat with his Disciples. When Jesus saw all of the hungry people, he asked JOHN / PHILLIP where they could buy bread to feed the crowd. Simon Peter noticed a boy who had brought a lunch of FIVE LOAVES AND TWO FISH / A LUNCHABLE. Jesus had the 5,000 / 30 hungry people sit down in the grass and began to feed them all. They didn’t want to waste anything! The Disciples gathered up ONE / TWELVE baskets of leftover bread. The boy gave what little he had and Jesus performed a DANCE / MIRACLE.

Do it together! Pray: Lord, thank you for everthing you have provided for us. Create a generous heart within us. Amen. Think about it: Do you think the boy thought his lunch could feed all of the hungry people? What are things in your life you can be generous with? What do you think matters more to God: the size of what we give or the heart of the giver? Prop talk: Paper fish The young boy we learned about today gave the little fish and bread he had and witnessed Jesus multiply what he gave. Use this fish to write what it is God is asking you to be generous with. Pray and listen to what you should write down. Then save your fish to remind you of your commitment to live generously! Memorize this week’s Bible verse: 2 Corinthians 9:7 Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.
