The Spiritual Disciplines Disciple U Keith and Kristin Peterson Part I: Devotion What do you think of when you hear the word ‘disciple’? After reading John 8:31 and listening to Keith and Kristin’s message, how does your definition of the word ‘disciple’ change? Read Deuteronomy 6:5-9. What does it look like to devote yourself with all of your strength? Does the Lord have all of your devotion?

Are you prioritizing your time with Him every day? If not, what are some practical steps that you can take today to change that?

Read Luke 10:38-42. Mary chooses devotion and sat at the feet of Jesus. Are you at His feet? Are you in His presence? Have you prioritized the one thing that Jesus said is needed?

What are some of the distractions in your everyday life that keep you from spending time with the Lord? Open your heart to Him. He is waiting to spend time with you.

Part II: Solitude Read Luke 6:12 and Mark 1:35. Jesus made it a discipline to spend time alone with God in solitude. Is this a spiritual discipline that you currently have? If so, how has it impacted your relationship with Him? If not, will you set time aside today to spend time with Him?

Have you ever felt prompted by the Holy Spirit to spend time in solitude with the Lord? Share about your experience.

How does the discipline of solitude contrast culture today?

If the Lord wanted us to have more than 24 hours in a day, He would’ve given us more than 24 hours in a day. How are you spending your day? How much time are you spending in solitude with Him?

Part III: Confession What are the two different aspects of confession? Which one comes more naturally to you? Which one do you struggle with? How can you grow in both areas? Have you experienced or witnessed a healthy way that people have confessed their sins to one another? How did it encourage you?

What do you confess to yourself? Is it more negative than positive? What are some truths you can speak out right now about yourself? What are some scriptures, passages, or bible stories that come to mind that could help you to declare Godly things over yourself?

How can our testimony impact the way we view ourselves? The way we view God? What are ways you can challenge yourself in the ways of confession? Part IV: Serving Read Matthew 20:28. How does this speak to you? How is Jesus an example for us? How does this way of serving and humility contrast culture today? John 15:13, being called to be like Christ, what do you think it looks like to “lay down your life for another?” Practically what does “less of me, more of you” look like? How did Jesus example this to us?

What do you think God is speaking to you right now about serving? What is your next step? Part V: Evangelism

Keith and Kristin talked about how the kingdom of God is here and now. How does this challenge you to share with others about God? Is it challenging for you to think about confronting friends who don’t know Jesus? How can you shift your perspective? How do the scriptures they referenced help us to see the value of this spiritual discipline? What are some ways or “bridges” you could use to help you talk to people about their faith? Out of these five ways to evangelize; confrontational, intellectual, relational, service evangelism and invitational which area do you feel most comfortable in? Which discipline makes you the most uncomfortable? Which area can you commit to working on? In what areas are you challenged by this message? How can you continue to grow in the area of evangelism?
