ROLE OF BATTERY MANAGEMENT SYSTEM IN ELECTRIC VEHICLE INTRODUCTION Electric vehicles have emerged as an alternative to traditional fuel and gas-powered vehicles, with considerably lower harmful emissions electric vehicles are good for the environment as well. With increasing awareness in society about the benefits of electric vehicles, a lot of people are adopting electric vehicles. As far as the performance of electric vehicles is concerned there is already a lot of improvement since its inception and still, a lot of research work is going on to improve it further. Performance depends on various factors and these factors are somehow linked to rechargeable batteries used in the vehicle. So to achieve a better output there is a need to monitor and control various battery parameters, for this function, there is a battery management system which is linked to these rechargeable batteries. NEED FOR BATTERY MANAGEMENT SYSTEM As already told the role of BMS is to control and monitor various parameters of the rechargeable batteries in the vehicle. The performance of lithium-ion batteries has improved immensely in the last few years. Apart from performance in terms of power and energy, other features like high power density, low self-discharge and reduced cost that Makemake them the most preferred batteries for the electric vehicle. BMS is an electronic circuit that ensures that these battery packs operate safely and in a stable manner, which in turn means more efficient performance along with the safety of the vehicle. Since lithium-ion batteries are mostly used in electric vehicles lithium-ion BMS suppliers are very much in demand and lithium-ion BMS suppliers are always busy meeting the demand. So apart from lithium-ion battery suppliers, lithium-ion BMS suppliers are also very much in demand in the electric vehicle market. FUNCTIONS OF BMS MONITORING: There are sensors to monitor various parameters like current, voltage and temperature of each cell, these readings are used to evaluate the overall health and condition of the battery pack, which in turn secure the safety of the vehicle at the same time it makes that batteries perform efficiently. BMS Controller suppliers are supposed to deliver good quality BMS not only performance but the safety of the vehicle very much depends on it.


PROTECTION: An intelligent BMS is supposed to save its battery pack from overheating and it is supposed to perform the function of thermal management. For safe working of the battery pack, voltage, current and temperature conditions must be such that they don’t lead to selfdamage. That is why BMS CONTROLLER SUPPLIERS must supply good quality BMS. BALANCING CELLS: Every cell in a module has a different charging and discharging rate which creates a lot of energy imbalance and limits the charging capacity of the battery pack, BMS performs the role of optimization by balancing discharging and charging value of each cell in a module. COMMUNICATION: Various functions of BMS are performed timely because communication between them and the medium of communication depends on the requirement of the application, in electric vehicle overall health and condition of battery packs is communicated to the driver as well. These were some of the roles performed by BMS but with advancements in technology, BMS is going to perform a few more such roles in future.
