The spaces that we inhabit are a product of our perception. They are a constant, that remind us of our place in the world. As the urban environment evolves, it does so organically; reflecting the aesthetics and legacy of its creators. Prodcucing a legacy that is, in itself, a comment on the evolution of our social values. Walking through a city the balance of history and aesthetics tells a narrative of the past and future visions of a city.
Understanding the ideology behind a building’s construction is the key to creating a portrait that reflects the sensibilities of its designers. To be able to approach the building from the same perspective as the architect allows me as a photographer to emphasise the form and function of a building, While my style of photography can be tailored to a particular commision, in my personal work I choose to work with filters and a slow shutter speed. This allows me to encorporate the fluidity of human movement through urban spaces. Presenting an extended sense of time within the frame that emphasises the strength of architecture within a space.
