Kia ora Koutou,
Another busy 2 weeks at Lakes High but some really positive outcomes along the way.
We had fantastic feedback from our Roadshow visits on 15, 17 and 18 August. A big thank you to Mokoia Intermediate, Rotorua Intermediate, Whakarewarewa School, and Kaharoa School for their hospitality and support. It was a great opportunity to meet prospective students and parents.
We had a terrific open night for Year 8 students and their caregivers, which was very well attended and from feedback, very well received. We also had a great Open day for Yr 8 students with our Year 9’s who were so welcoming to our visitors. Well done! I would like to take this opportunity to thank our staff for the time they put into making these events such a success.
It was a great day at our Inter-School Sports Exchange event on 16 August with Morrinsville High School. The students were so enthusiastic and totally immersed in all the events. A huge thank you to all our students, Ms S Savage and our Heads of House for their commitment, dedication, and hard work.
With the looming Board of Trustees Student Rep elections, students have been asked for nominations. We have received three nominations so far and this closes on Monday 29 August 2022. This means we will be holding an election on Wednesday 14 September 2022. I will take this opportunity to thank Ara Robinson for her time representing a student’s perspective and for her hard work and committed approach to attending the meetings of the Board of Trustees.
Have a great weekend.
Ngā mihi, Jon Ward, Principal/Tumaki
BOARD OF TRUSTEES
The Board of Trustees has called an Extraordinary Board Meeting on Wednesday 31 August at 5.15 pm in the RLHS board room. This meeting is primarily to welcome our new Board Members, and elect a Presiding Member.
MCAT
Most students in the 3 11MSC classes will be sitting an External Achievement Standard called the MCAT on 13 September 2022 in the Auditorium. If your child is NOT sitting the MCAT then they go to their normal timetabled class for period 1.
Students need to go straight to the Auditorium at the beginning of House Group and line up in their class. They need their blue/black pens, pencils, ruler and rubber in a clear bag. Watches, calculators and phones are NOT allowed in the Auditorium.
If your child is absent on 13 September please ring Mr Shaun English as soon as possible on 345 6124 ext 241.
PRELIM EXAMS / 19–23 SEPTEMBER 2022
Our students who are entered into NZQA externals in November will be sitting Prelim exams. These exams are very important and students are expected to attend in full school uniform. The results from these exams are to help inform students/parents/teachers on the level the student is currently at and what needs to be worked on. They are also used for class placings and a derived grade for NZQA if needed. A derived grade is requested by NZQA in a situation where a student is unable, because of a medical or traumatic event, to sit their November exam(s). As we did last year, we will also be having timetabled slots for non-exam subjects. The timetable will be out shortly. For any queries please email: sturmej@rotorualakes.school.nz.

Yesterday some of our year 11 dance students participated in Dance NZ Made. It was a fun day filled with dance workshops and a competition in the evening. Well done to Brock Aitchison, Mia Vandy and Meliz Kaya for all your hard work!
YEAR 12 TOURISM TRIP
Great day in the sun, ziplining and planting trees at the newly opened Rotorua Zipline with the 12 Tourism students. With a tour of the airport developments afterwards. Great bunch of kids seeing the Tourism industry in action
