The project is not systematic investigations. This project

is to change the appearance of a social media page and

create a guide for future social media coordinators. It will

not collect data from Cal Poly students or employees as subjects. It does not attempt to answer research ques-

tions. Therefore, this project does not need to be reviewed by the California Polytechnic State University Institutional Review Board.

Abstract

The purpose of this project was to find a way to improve

the Roopairs social media. The initial run through of the social media account showed a lack of cohesion between content and color coordination of posts. This became the main area of focus for the rest of the project. Through

extensive research of succesful tech companies’ social

media pages, a plan was set to redesign the page. This included creating product photos, text post templates, and vectorized product posts.

About Me

I am a 4th year Graphic Communication Major with a

concentration in Design and Reproduction Technologies. I find my passion through sports, the outdoors, and people.

My goal is to one day do design work and photography for a professional sports organization. In the meantime, I will

continue capturing life through the lens of my camera and furthering my design skills.

Problem Statement

The overall goal of the project is to improve Roopair’s Instagram page. They currently have little to no cohesiveness in their posts at the moment. As my client said, “It looks terrible and people don’t even realize we are a software company”. That is where I come in. My job was to

improve the aesthetic of the page, create cohesiveness

between posts, and make it recognizable as a software company.

Project Process

The project process begins with getting an idea of what the client

envisions their page to look like in the future. From there begins the research phase. I began looking through succesful Instagram busi-

ness pages to see what they do well in regards to layout, color coordination, and unity. I then tried to figure out how we could implement these strategies into the Roopairs page. After that, I narrowed the

search to succesful software and tech companies. I focused on similar things here, but I also noted how they promoted their software and

what kind of text posts they made. After I had a general idea, I created a series of documents with Instagram pages and posts that I could

use for inspiration and to receive some feedback from my client. I

took the feedback of the client’s likes and dislikes and started creating drafts. I presented my drafts twice a week to get the most feedback and direction in my work as possible. After receiving feedback, I

would go back and make the stated changes and more. This process continues until I arrive at a product that we agree is post ready. 7

Reflection

What Went Well?

- Seeing as I know next to nothing about the trade industries, I had to do a lot of

research. This research gave me a better understanding of the industries, and a deeper interest in the designs I was creating.

- Being creative. One of my tasks was to take pictures of different things you would see in the trade industries, but with everything closed I had to create ways to get pictures of these things.

- Teaching myself new techniques by watching YouTube tutorials to improve my design skills

What Could go Better?

- There was quite a bit of miscommunication when it came to getting and giving files or documents.

- Meeting times were changed muItiple times to timeslots which I had class.

- Because everything was closed, I couldn’t use a photo studio or actual industry equipment which made photoshoots difficult.
