We Show Up for our Patients

Patient Testimonial: Darren Gray, RMC Supervisor of Electrophysiology Laboratory

“I never had any chest pain or shortness of breath. No symptoms whatsoever. If my brother would not have died, I probably would not be alive.”

This week marks the beginning of Heart Month, a time when we all can put focus on our cardiovascular health. That's exactly what Darren Gray, a supervisor in our electrophysiology laboratory, did in 2021 after his brother passed away from cardiac arrest. Read more.

BEE Award Winner: Barbara Silvers, Nutrition Care Assistant

Congratulations to Barbara Silvers, Nutrition Care Assistant, on earning a BEE Award.

"Last Christmas she purchased gifts for our long-term patients on the unit. She will not hesitate to do something extra for her patients and often times doesn’t tell people of the great things she is up to. Patients and family members have expressed nothing but high remarks and appreciation for her service. Last September, she celebrated 40 years of working here at Research and we are very proud of the care she provides our patients."

February is Heart Month

As part of HCA Midwest Health, we care for the most hearts in Kansas City. All month long, we will recognize the important work our cardiac care teams provide our patients. You can show your support all month long by wearing red, especially on Wear Red Day on Friday, February 3, or by purchasing cookies for a colleague during our cookie exchange; all proceeds will go to benefit the American Heart Association.

You brought out your Chiefs' spirit last week, and it's fair to say they noticed: our hometown team is off to the Super Bowl! We wore Chiefs gear, attended free coffee night hosted by our Coffee Shop and the senior leadership team, enjoyed some delicious Topsy's Popcorn, and donated $360 to the American Heart Association for the Chiefs Gift Basket. Congrats to Alicia Stephens in Pathology for being our winner! See below for next week's activities!

HR Tidbit: Tuition Assistance Program

Morgan Saxena, Director of Marketing & PR, Conducted a Walk-A-Mile with Hannah, Physical Therapist.

"Hannah has an amazing way with her patients and entered each room with a high level of professionalism and friendliness. As soon as I met her, she emphasized the importance to lead with education to patients to help them understand the "why" behind her care, and I saw that immediately along with her caring approach as she put her patients at ease (and held them accountable). I truly enjoyed my Walk-a-Mile with Hannah and so thankful we have someone like her caring for our patients!"

Sophia Solomon, ACNO, was the AOC this past weekend. She rounded and checked on the units, and kept in contact with the House Supervisor to assist as needed. She also had the fun job of delivering delicious cookies to the hardworking staff. Thank you to all!
