years of changes to campus
Nothing ever stays the same, and Colorado State University is no exception. Looking back through the last four years so many things made the campus change. Here are a couple of the changes that graduating seniors have been a part of:
Opening of Canvas Stadium
Construction on Canvas Stadium began in 2015 and finished just as this year’s graduating seniors arrived on campus. The first football game was held on Aug. 26, 2017, and the Rams beat Oregon State 58-27.
Opening of the Nancy Richardson Design Center
The Nancy Richardson Design Center opened in January 2019. It’s named after CSU alumna Nancy Richardson, who graduated from CSU in 1982 with a degree in interior design. It’s open to all CSU students and has been a great place for students to collaborate.
Tearing down Aylesworth Hall
Graduating seniors remember this building as classroom space, however, this building has had an evolving history on campus. Initially a residence hall from 1958-1970, Aylesworth became the go-to space for various departments during times of need. The building was torn down at the start of this academic year to make way for a new residence hall community.
When graduating seniors first got to campus this was a construction site. In August of 2018 Construction finished on the Michael Smith Natural Resources Building which was opened to students and faculty across campus. Around $20.2 million was invested into this building. It covers 50,000 square feet and is a reflection of the university's commitment to sustainability.
Move from in-person classes to online classes
Spring break of 2020 was extended, but we would never have guessed that the time we spent in class before break would have been the last time we were in a classroom for a while. The coronavirus hit and across the world people were subjected to stay-at-home orders, this included colleges across America. Students and teachers started the long stretch of time with online learning.
Moved from online classes to in-person classes
After a year of working remotely with other students and teachers’ online classes were (mostly) gone. Campus started to get the spark of students and teachers attending class in person. The library and the student center filled with students studying and wasting time between classes, life seemed to be getting back to normal.
Joyce McConnell became the new CSU President
Joyce McConnell was introduced as the new Colorado State University president in 2019. She made history at CSU as the first woman president. McConnell took over after Tony Frank’s 11-year presidency, who is now the chancellor of the CSU system.
Colorado State University Lagoon got a makeover
Before the dreaded stay-at-home orders, you may remember the lagoon was blocked off with construction tape and was undergoing a renovation. The lagoon has been on campus since the 1960s and the renovations allowed faculty, staff and students to spend more time at the lagoon, with the addition of border seating along the edge.
