Installation WARNING

Scope of Manual This manual describes and provides instructions and parts list for the Type 67AFD filter. This filter is usually shipped installed on other equipment such as valve positioners. Instructions and parts lists for other equipment are found in separate manuals.

Product Description The Type 67AFD aluminum-body filter with drip pot (figure 1) removes dirt, moisture, and other particles from air or gas lines. This filter is commonly used in the supply pressure line to a pneumatic instrument. The filter element removes particles greater than 0.0016 inch (0.040 mm) in diameter.

Specifications Table 1 gives some general Type 67AFD filter ratings and other specifications. A nameplate (figure 2) gives additional information for a given filter as it comes from the factory.

Installing a filter where its capabilities, or those of any downstream equipment, can be exceeded may cause personal injury or property damage due to bursting of pressure-containing parts or explosion of accumulated gas. To avoid this, install the unit where: • Service conditions are within unit capabilities (including those given in table 1), • Service conditions are within applicable local, state, or federal codes or regulations, • The unit is protected from exposure to physical damage and /or corrosive substances, and • Suitable pressure-limiting or pressurerelieving devices have been installed in those instances where supply pressure is capable of exceeding the maximum allowable downstream equipment pressure.

1. Use qualified personnel when installing, operating, and maintaining this filter. Before installing, inspect the filter for any damage or for any foreign material that may have collected in the body. Note If the filter is shipped mounted on another unit, install that unit according to the appropriate instruction manual. 2. For a filter that is shipped separately, make sure that there is no damage to or foreign material in the filter and that all tubing and piping have been cleaned. Install the filter so that flow is from the IN to the outlet connection on the side of the filter body. If desired for mounting convenience, change the pipe plug (key 5, figure 3) to the side outlet connection and (if used) the pipe nipple (key 13, not shown) to the OUT connection, after first applying John Crane Plastic Lead Seal* sealant or equivalent to the threads of the pipe plug. 3. For best filter drainage, orient the drain valve (key 7, figure 3) to the lowest possible point on the filter cap (key 2, figure 3). To change filter/drain valve orientation, rotate the filter cap with respect to the regulator body. 4. If using pipe, apply pipe compound to the pipe threads before making the connections. Install tubing or piping into the 1/4-inch NPT inlet connection, and also into the 1/4inch NPT outlet connection (unless this connection already has been factory-piped to another unit).

Maintenance Filter parts are subject to normal wear and must be inspected and replaced as necessary. The frequency of inspection and replacement depends on the severity of service conditions and the requirements of local, state, and federal rules and regulations. The drain valve (key 7, figure 3) should be opened periodically to empty accumulated moisture from the filter cap (key 2, figure 3).

FILTER CAPABILITIES

WARNING To avoid personal injury or equipment damage caused by sudden release of pressure or explosion of accumulated gas, do not attempt any maintenance or disassembly without first isolating the filter from system pressure and relieving all internal pressure from the filter. This procedure is to be performed if inspecting, cleaning, or replacing any parts. Key numbers refer to figure 3. Note If sufficient clearance exists, the body assembly (key 1) may remain mounted on other equipment or in a line unless the entire filter will be replaced. 1. To gain access to the filter element (key 3) for replacement or cleaning, use a twelve-point socket wrench to remove the cap screws (key 10), and then remove the filter cap (key 2) and gasket (key 6). The retainer assembly (key 4) and filter element (key 3) may come off with the filter cap; if not, remove these parts. Be careful to keep the parts from falling out and possibly getting lost. 2. Inspect the removed parts, and replace as necessary. A dirty filter element may be cleaned with solvent and blown dry.

Parts Ordering When corresponding with the Fisher sales office or sales representative about this regulator, include the type number and all other pertinent information stamped on the bottom of the filter cap and on the nameplate. Specify the elevencharacter part number when ordering new parts from the following parts list.
