Why Participation in Awards is Important Not only is it fun to participate in awards, but there are also other benefits to it.  Participation creates friendly competition between district clubs  Winning projects have the chance of receiving international recognition at ICON  Members of the district board can see the hard work within Key Club International and the Rocky Mountain District

Awards will generally be judged at the District Convention, which takes place in the spring.

The Early Bird Award The Early Bird Award is awarded to all Key Clubs in the Rocky Mountain District who successfully turn in dues before the November 1st deadline. All clubs who successfully turn in dues before the deadline receive the award; however, the club to turn in dues first will receive the trophy for being the Early Bird.

Dues by the Date: October 1: You can start paying dues

December 1: Regular dues are due November 1: Early Bird dues are due

February 1: Club that have not paid are suspended

Club Growth Award This award is awarded to the club with the most growth per year. This is based on the percentage of growth within a club rather than the actual size of a club. Essentially, the club that gains the most members is given this award, not the largest club.

Club A: Last Year: 10 members This Year: 20 members 100% increase 10 more members

Club A would receive the award because they have had the largest growth regarding percentage.

Club B: Last Year: 250 members This Year: 250 members 0% increase 0 more members

Club B may be the largest overall club, but it experienced no growth.

Club C: Last Year: 50 members This Year: 70 members 40% increase 20 more members

Club C gained the most individual members, but it did not experience the highest percent growth.

Distinguished Club Award This award recognizes distinguished clubs within our district, based on their performance, leadership, and overall dedication to service. In order to be eligible to receive this award, clubs must fill out the annual achievement form that can be found on the website. Find the Annual Achievement Report form at www.rmdkeyclub.org/annual-achievement-report

Every club is required to fill out the Annual Achievement Report, but you only win if you have enough points!

Club Monthly Report Form This award will be awarded to the Key Club that completes the most Club Monthly Reports before the District Convention. Monthly reports will be graded on the following criteria:  Quantity  Quality  Timeliness Find the Club Monthly Report form at http://www.rmdkeyclub.org/club-monthly-reports

Club Monthly Reports are due by the last Thursday of every month.

Year in Review A club may enter either a Traditional Scrapbook or a Non-Traditional Scrapbook. The purpose of this competition is to showcase the leadership and service our club has performed in the last Key Club year (defined as District Convention to District Convention). Please read the criteria carefully, as failure to comply with the guidelines will result in disqualification.

Year in Review: Traditional Scrapbook A Key Club may enter a scrapbook containing pictures, souvenirs, examples, newspaper clippings, etc. of its activities during the club administrative year (defined as being from District Convention to District Convention). Each scrapbook must be divided into these categories: 1. Service to School 2. Service to Community 3. Fundraising Projects 4. Assistance to Kiwanis Projects 5. Major Emphasis Involvement 6. Miscellaneous Each category must be tabbed accordingly. The pages also must be numbered with a table of contents included at the beginning. Scrapbooks must fit within dimensions of 14 inches high by 14 inches wide. Scrapbook cover may be decorated. All entries must complete the form (found on district website & available at DCON) and attach to the inside front cover of the scrapbook containing the following: Key Club name, district, division, city, state, and an itemized statement of the total expenditures and donations. This statement must be signed by the Key Club president and faculty advisor, stating the scrapbook’s retail cost value (including photographic materials) does not exceed the price of US$300. Work done by Key Club members such as hand-lettering, artwork, etc. need not be included as cost items. Failure to comply with this rule will result in disqualification. 8


Year in Review: Non-Traditional Scrapbook A Key Club may enter a non-traditional scrapbook or composition of other media containing pictures, souvenirs, examples, newspaper clippings, or other representations of its activities during the club administrative year (defined as being from District Convention to District Convention). Each entry should adequately portray the following categories: 1. Service to School 2. Service to Community 3. Fundraising Projects 4. Assistance to Kiwanis Projects 5. Major Emphasis Involvement 6. Miscellaneous All entries must complete the form (found on district website and available at DCON) submitting the following: Key Club name, division, region, district, city, state, and an itemized statement of the total expenditures and donations. This statement must be signed by the Key Club president and faculty advisor, stating the scrapbook’s retail cost value (including photographic materials) does not exceed the price of US$300. Work done by Key Club members such as hand-lettering, artwork, etc. need not be included as cost items. Failure to comply with this rule will result in disqualification. No audio, visual, or computer equipment will be allowed as part of the entry. The entry must be sturdy to allow handling by judges as necessary.

Poster Contest: Digital and Non-Digital A club may enter one of the two poster contests: digital and non-digital. Even though the medium of design is different, the general criteria is the same:  Poster entries must fit within dimensions of 18x24 inches in order to be judged  The artist must be a Key Club member  All entries shall be in good taste and appropriate to the standards set by the Objects of Key Club International  The poster should be designed to recruit new members for Key Club  The poster should not bear the name of any school, community, or district  All entries must have an attached form from down below  Posters will be judged on overall quality and look, broken down into the following points

o

Originality/Creativity................................ 25 points o Effectiveness for member recruitment........ 25 points o Appearance and artistic expression............ 50 points

 Digital posters are designed using online graphics or computer systems  Non-digital posters are made without any online graphics

Video Contest The video contest is meant to be promotional for Key Club as an organization and/or the Key Club within its respective school/community.  The video must be produced by club members at a cost that does not exceed US $250  The length of the completed video segment should be no more than 60 seconds  All entries shall be in good taste and appropriate to the standards set by the Objects of Key Club International  Videos will be judged based on the following criteria o Originality10 points o Promotion of Key Club................20 points o Clarity of message......................20 points o Quality of production:  Sound quality.....................10 points  Picture quality....................10 points o Overall impression..................... 30 points  The following information must be submitted on the Contest Entry Form in PDF format (form can be found on the website): 1. Name of the Key Club, Division, and District 2. Contact name and information for a Key Club member responsible for the submission 3. Itemized listing of all costs associated with the production of the video

The video must be submitted on a DVD in QuickTime format containing no copyrighted music 11


Major Emphasis Award This award focuses on the Kiwanis Major Emphasis Goal: to help the children of the world. One club will receive the award based upon a service project that follows this set goal. In order to be eligible, clubs must fill out the form below.

One way to serve the children of the world is through Key Club’s preferred charities. Uniting together to eliminate maternal/ neonatal tetanus from the planet

Works to end premature birth, bird defects, and infant mortality Works for children’s rights, survival, development, and protection

Single Service Award The Single Service award shall provide recognition to Key Clubs for a commendable service project. The Single Service Award is awarded to a club service project, planned, organized and produced by the Key Club occurring on a single day, consecutive days or recurring on different days. Projects acceptable for this award may include both hands-on service projects and fundraising efforts. Clubs shall compete with other clubs of similar size within four membership categories:  Bronze, being 35 members or less  Silver, being 36 to 60 members  Gold, being 61 to 85 members  Platinum, being 86 members or more. In order to be eligible for a Single Service Award clubs must fill out a single service entry form.
