Rocky Mountain District Key Club
Rocky Mountain District (RMD) Key Club: Call to Convention 2014 Hello, Kiwanis Advisors of the RMD! It’s that time of year again – time to start thinking about 2014 RMD Key Club District Convention! This year’s convention will be held April 4-6 at the Sheraton Denver West Hotel in Lakewood, CO. At the District Convention (DCON), themed Once Upon a DCON, students will have the opportunity to attend student-led forums that will give them the skills that they need to return to their Key Clubs as more knowledgeable, effective servant leaders and the motivation that they will need to make a difference in their homes, schools, and communities. They will also be able to engage in the parliamentary procedure of caucusing and electing new Rocky Mountain Key Club executive board members, the first ever districtwide service project, a Dance to Eliminate, and the Talent Show and Awards Ceremony. I attended my first District Convention as a freshman in April 2011, and I would not be the student nor the leader that I am today had I not taken the opportunity to come out of my shell and enjoy the weekend. DCON opened up infinite service possibilities to me on local, state, and national levels. Through my involvement with the Key Club district, I have gained professional skills that I will continue to use for the rest of my life. I would highly recommend DCON to all Key Club members who wish to build their leadership skills in and outside of Key Club. Kiwanis advisors and other Kiwanis members are welcomed and encouraged to attend the Kiwanis Family Luncheon on Saturday, April 5 at 12:15pm and the Kiwanis Family Service Project at 2:00pm the same day. Note that April 5 is International Kiwanis One Day, and this is a great opportunity to connect the various levels of the Kiwanis Family. This is the first District-Wide Service Project ever done in the Rocky Mountain District of Key Club, and we would love to have the interaction and support of Kiwanis! Registration forms for the luncheon and the service project will be sent out to Kiwanis clubs and can be found online at www.rmdkeyclub.org . It is likely that students from Key Clubs in your division will be asking for help from your Kiwanis club to pay for District Convention (the price for a quad room for the weekend is $216 per member). As Key Clubbers, we are aware that Key Club relies on Kiwanis’s generous funding and that you work hard all year to support us. Any amount of aid that you are able to give is much appreciated, and we thank you for your help! Keep in mind that these Key Clubbers are the future of Kiwanis International. I never would have been inspired to keep the Kiwanis Family as a part of my life before attending a Key Club District Convention, but I am now sure that I would like to continue on to Circle K and Kiwanis wherever my studies take me after high school. DCON opens a door to Key Clubbers that will inspire them to spend the rest of their lives serving the children of the world and our local communities. Thank you for all of the hard work that you do to help our Key Club District succeed. It does not go unnoticed and is very appreciated on the club and district level. Please do not hesitate to contact me, your District Convention Chair, at emilysharp.rmd@gmail.com or 804-868-0683, or our District Administrator, Dave Harris, at RMDKCAd@aol.com or 720-341-5064 with any questions or concerns. I look forward to meeting each of you at District Convention 2014! Sincerely, Emily Sharp Rocky Mountain Key Club District Convention Chair
